The script.

>Forensic scientist Barry Allen is struck by lightning and doused in chemical producers, which afford him superspeed. He then begins protecting Keystone as "The Flash", believed to be an urban legend by the population. The only ones aware of the Flash's existance and his secret identity are his wife, investigative journalist Iris West, and his best friend, Detective Hunter Zolomon. Iris' troublemaking nephew, Wally West, lives with them and admires Barry.

>Barry and Hunter are lured into a trap by Victor Vesp, a mad scientist obsessed with stealing the Flash's speed. Barry is then trapped in a machine designed to extract his speed, which then becomes unstable and threatens to destroy the city. Barry is able to break the lightspeed barrier and escape, sacrificing himself to contain the explosion, which leaves Hunter crippled. Vesp is arrested.

>Iris reveals Barry's secret to the world so he'll be honored, and Barry is celebrated as Keystone City's greatest hero. Wally feels he'll never live up to Barry's legacy and ends up becoming a slacker who coasts by on his charm.

>On the anniversary of Barry's death, Wally visits a statue in his honor and is unexpectedly struck by lightning. He awakens in S.T.A.R. Labs, where he's been taken by Iris and Hunter. Scientists Jerry McGee and Tina McGee reveal that Wally has developed superspeed as well. Jerry theorizes that, in the moment of his death, Barry generated the lightning bolt that struck Wally, which breached the space-time continuum, in order to bestow his powers upon Wally.

>Tina and Jerry help Wally become acclimated to his abilities, and Wally and Tina develop a mutual attraction. Iris and Hunter expect Wally to take upon Barry's mantle, but, reluctant to not do it justice, Wally instead reveals himself to the world and uses his powers solely for personal gain, scoring sponsorships in sporting events and television ads.

Meanwhile, Jerry finds out that Zoom is stealing the necessary items to rebuild Vesp's machine. He is then murdered by Zoom, who also kidnaps Tina and Iris to lure Wally into a trap at Vesp's lair, where Wally is caught in Vesp's machine like Barry was once before.

When Wallyr refuses, the two engage in a destructive fight across the planet, which ends when Wally transfer more speed than Hunter's artificially enhanced body is able to process, causing Hunter to be disintegrated.

>Wally reunites with Tina and Iris and tells them that Barry is alive inside the Speed Force, and together they'll find a way to rescue him. Wally then embraces the mask, calls himself "The Flash" and speeds off into the night, ready to fight for Keystone.

Reynolds isn't a bad actor. He sometimes grates on me and basically typecast as the smug asshole with a heart of gold, but he's not bad. A lot of the problems he's involved with like Green Lantern or Xmen Origins: Wolverine is mostly due to executive creative decisions rather than any acting ability or input from him.

Fun fact: Reynolds just doesn't gross highly. As a lead, he's done it maybe one or two times depending how you cut it, and one of those was opposite Sandra Bullock. He tends to specialise in things that top out around $200m, because he's not an interesting lead, he hasn't got a great deal of depth as an actor (he's basically playing "himself"), and he's got a forgettable face. Ironically, X-Men Origins is one of his highest-grossing films.

Casting him as the main lead in anything is a mistake, but people keep making it. I don't know why, normally guys like that end up as character actors (which admittedly would be hard for a man with no real face or depth) or shitcanned. I mean I'm sure he's a great guy or a total monster or whatever the fuck you want to believe, but it's not like there's a shortage of slightly forgettable pretty boys in LA. He must work for peanuts or something.
