>>78911085 Nevermind the joke, what's even being conveyed here? I assume "straw purchases" means buying guns for someone else, and the Supreme Court is trying to put a stop to it?
And I suppose I get the symbolism of the Strawman from The Wizard of Oz, buying guns for kids is indeed a dumb idea. But this strip isn't really showing why it's bad. Like maybe if it depicted Dorthy as a school shooter or something it would have been more clear.
>>78911562 >I'm a tongue-slapping idiot and need a political cartoon to be more clear
Seriously, this isn't fucking rocket science. Giving guns to children is a bad idea. For a shit ton of reasons. Pick one. I guarantee that the first one you think of is probably good enough to assure you that it's not a good idea to give a child a lethal weapon.
>>78911638 Um, yeah, I know buying guns for kids is a bad idea. Read my post again, I even said so.
It's just that political satire isn't effective if it's too fucking vague. The Strawman is known via pop culture for lacking a brain, but Dorthy is something of a heroic figure. The symbolism of giving her a gun isn't inherently bad.
>>78911562 Buying guns and selling them to convicted felons/people that can't legally have guns is ALREADY illegal. Its just now the government is trying to persecute thought crime bullshit because the recent string of shootings come from people who legally had done no wrong nor had any reason to be blacklisted before the shootings, on top of making private sale of goods no matter what they are regulated is bullshit.
>>78912236 He's beating a dead mythological horse of "gun show loopholes" and trying to push for making private sales illegal which is basically another way of saying "Nobody in America can sell property if we can't push a collect a sales tax on it! give us our cut!".
>>78912236 I heard this on BBC of all places the night after Obama's cryspeech >We have a gun owner from Texas with us, sir what did you think? >THAT WAS THE MOST DISGRACEFUL THING I HAVE EVER SEEN I'M FROM TEXAS AND WE TAKE OUR GUNS SERIOUSLY >So then do you disagree with what Obama is saying> >No, I don't. I agree that tougher enforcement of these laws would help everyone. >Okay, then why are you upset? >BECAUSE THIS IS JUST THE FIRST STEP TO OBAMA BANNING ALL GUNS
>>78912236 >>78912265 With the failing of that last attempted weapons ban its honestly propaganda and needling to see what they CAN take away. They don't care about whats already on the books, they just want to see what they can add or enforce, legally or not. Shit slips through the cracks, but some people value comfort over ideals, and can't stand the fact that these things happen in a free society.
I don't know why pro gunners are concerned at all. Nothing's ever going to change. Hell, Sandy Hook's shooting didn't change anything, and it had little kids killed, and we all know how much America loves to protect the children.
>>78912265 Obama has been pushing for using the FBI no fly list as a means for determining who can and cannot own a gun. The problem is that the no fly list is full of people that are not criminals and have no logical reason to be treated as such including random children and US senators and the way you get put on the list is nebulous and not even fully understood by the FBI themselves.
>>78912489 >BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE THE PRO-GUNNERS GET PISSED OFF AND KEEP IT FROM HAPPENING YOU FUCKING IDIOT. You're thinking of lobbyists, pro-gunners getting mad doesn't do anything. NRA spending money to get anti-gun legislation trashed does.
>>78912559 This, exactly this. Well, the NRA and the gun manufacturers that really foot their bills. Of course, it doesn't help that they do all that while also crying to all their members "OH NOS YOU GUYS THE FIRST NIGGER'S GONNA TAKE ALL YOUR GUNS!!!!1!!" so they'll all circle the wagons and write to their senators about how those dead kids were all bullet-sluts asking to get shot because the school didn't force them all to pray in class, the way Jebus intended.
>>78912788 He seems to think his point is self-explanatory, which defeats the entire purpose of illustrating it. Like that cartoon for example, rather then show the kids are adversely affected by having two dads... he just draws the same image and replaces the mom with a dad, the kids still happy and still being cared for, and expects you to see that and immediately hate the family on the right simply because it's got two dads.
>>78912760 Funding someone and being mad aren't the same thing. I'm sure a lot of people would donate to the NRA regardless of how they're feeling. I'm sure they get more money when someone's mad, but that's money they give the NRA to fix the problem for them they don't really do much on their own. I mean you wouldn't say you fixed a toilet if you hired a plumber would you?
>>78913059 What kinda pastor just tries to herd kids in for a baptising like that? Man he's like a fucking child molester or something. Plus who's gonna sponsor them, do they have some other person there to sponsor all the kids who he manages to get in his van?
>>78912811 The funny thing about this is that most abortions in the South are to black women whose parents aren't around and who grew up listening to other girls talk about how bullshit it was they were made to do all this shit for an abortion and are completely desensitized to it
>>78913059 Since I genuinely can't tell which side he's arguing for, I'm going to assume he's anti-abortion. Going by what >>78913158 and >>78913163 are assuming, the reason you can't do a baptism alone has nothing to do with secularism, and more to do with the fear that the priest is a pedophile.
>>78912618 Something about the EU defunding their militaries and I assume we're supposed to think that giving stuff to China will ensure the Chinese topple those democracies, as though democracy was ever desirable
>>78912516 He means people complain about the environment but ignore other troubles like gays
It's funny because I assume somewhere he has a comic about how environmental issues are overstated by liberals
>>78912788 Another anon already explained this. Asay finds homosexuality so abhorrent that he assumes people will just immediately see the one on the right and be horrified, which I assume is one reason why attitudes on homosexuality have mellowed out so much- Asay types didn't understand that to win a propaganda war you need to demonize the other side like liberals did with Westboro Baptist Church, not assume the other side is implicitly bad and that people will assume the same.
>>78912888 Government should be able to make threesomes, buttsex, bondage, furry and other fetishy stuff illegal but also spends your tax money
>>78913349 >Former superpower >Now home to a bunch of batshit insane gun fetishits I don't really want to live here, but I'm scared if enough sane people leave the US will drag the world into a nuclear meltdown
>>78912325 He's correct though. All orwellian-style laws take place as a result of incremental losses of freedom where people think it is fine to let X happen because X isn't that much ground being given.
>>78913509 >economy going to shit because of rich people with funny money in New York >give up all the guns >"we need socialism to give our people our stuff back!" >rich people roll over you with militarized police because you thought they would peacefully give up their ill-gotten wealth
>>78913526 What shit do you want to be done? Most massacres were started by mentally ill people and liberals, with the exception of Dylan Roof.
Are you saying we should ban assault liberals? Do you even know what you want to do or understand why the "common sense solutions" thus far haven't been common sense at all but just a pretense to grab as many guns as possible?
>>78913601 I am simply trying to reason with the type of people who complain about wealth inequality, since they seem to legitimately believe if we elected a communist into office the rich would just go "oh well that's democracy guess we gotta give up all our wealth to the government" without a fight.
>>78913441 >>78913441 Either way plenty of people get shot in both those countries. Hell there's pretty much a decades-long civil war in Columbia and every country in Central America besides Costa Rica is infested with drug cartels and/or contras.
>>78913557 That's not how things work, you've been reading too much superman. Disney isn't gonna start sending tanks from the Epcot dome and launch a military campaign just because of some legislation. They'll just pay people to side against it.
>>78913634 >Implying it wasn't the Federal Reserves fault, who's job it was to prevent banks from failing >Implying the feds decision to decrease the supply of money in circulation had nothing to do with it
>>78913657 >I am simply trying to reason with the type of people who complain about wealth inequality, since they seem to legitimately believe if we elected a communist into office the rich would just go "oh well that's democracy guess we gotta give up all our wealth to the government" without a fight. They wouldn't fight literally though, they'd just fight tooth and nail to stop all legislation that affects them. Not that the executive office can really do much there anyways, I'm not sure but I don't think executive orders can really do that much against them.
>>78913349 >>78913330 Why do you care what the rest of the world thinks? Europe is going to be flooded by 10 million refugees in the next five years most of whom do not come from the middle east but from countries like Eritrea and Pakistan and are around 71% male.
Because when you say "rest of the world" you certainly aren't talking about latin america, africa, china or india- where most of the world actually lives.
Whenever it seems like the government may make moves to make gun ownership more difficult, sales surge in ridiculous numbers.
I remember after Sandy Hook, I worked in a retail bank location that had a rather major gun manufacturer as a client. They would come in with $70-$150k CASH every fucking day to deposit, from people purchasing not hand guns, but assault rifles before the goberment could take that away. CASH. Buying these fucking guns in those numbers, every goddamn day, CASH. This went on for 2-3 months until we finally made them contract a courier to deliver their cash deposits to a more secure processing location.
>>78913444 They won't grow up, they were shot dead at their school by a guy with an assault rifle.
>>78913466 Who do you think paid for that? It sure as shit wasn't the McSnackless family. Who's going to bankroll your putative second revolution? China doesn't want it; they rely on you for trade. Russia doesn't want it, Europe doesn't want it. You going to side with Iran or North Korea first?
>>78913618 See, you're not citing any sources though. The implication you were making was that the refugees are preying on innocent Europeans. Everything (of substance) I can find is that the refugee centers and camps are filled with sexual abuse and rape. And while that's horrible, it isn't that uncommon in refugee centers. Demographically refugees tend to be poor, put into shitty conditions, and largely unsupervised allowing the more disgusting characters free reign to victimize. Similar things happened during the dust bowl with the Okies who settled in California for example.
Yes, it's horrible, and yes it's Muslim men committing these crimes. But you're being (deliberately?) misleading for the sake of.... your personal biases? Trying to sound smart and civilized?
>>78913657 But the goal of communism is (theorically) to take control of the means to make wealth (basically ressources + workforce) , not of the existing wealth itself. And it's not as much of the same thing as some people would want you to believe.
>>78913885 I thought the implication was that abortion access is ridiculously strict when compared to gun access. That's not any implication on the two sides having no overlap; they're still unrelated issues it's just a comment on both of them from one side.
>>78913944 >Nigga it's been all over the news. Just look up "Germany assaults new year" and pick your source of choice, instead of going into a rant about how clueless you are.
Sorry, I made that post not realizing I was supposed to google the unmentioned New Years. And yes, it's terrible. But again, you're exaggerating the numbers and instantly jumping to the "fuck off to tumblr" thing which automatically makes me disregard your post.
Still, you aren't wrong per se. It is interesting to see actual verifiable data linking refugees to increased crime.
>>78914231 That wasn't my posts though, I was just jumping in to tell you you're clueless and cocky about it. Honestly though the other anon's not wrong, if you're just going to assume anyone who says anything bad about muslim immigrants is a lying /pol/lack, you don't really deserve constructive discussion.
>exaggerating the numbers The first report was the spectacular "1000 women" so I can see where anon made his mistake. Actual count is currently at ~200 plaintifs for sexual assaults only (500+ total) in Köln only (with multiple cases also in Hamburg, Stuttgart and Zurich). And counting (the German authorities expect more reports)
> It is interesting to see actual verifiable data linking refugees to increased crime. Malmö in Sweden is a more interesting case (larger sample size) if that's what you're into.
>>78914887 >>78914887 >Self defense That is also harming someone, the type of bad people I was talking about. >protest Wut? You make noise with it or something? >sport, collection Are not the purpose of a gun in the 1st place. Do you also think the state should still emit stamps when there's no physical mail because people collect them? Nobody would collect guns or use them for sports if they hadn't been invented to shoot at living things. Also not technically useful.
I guess hunting is acceptable, even though you don't need a fucking sniper rifle to do that if you're not a pussy.
And I'm not saying guns are useless or anything, they're very useful to harm people who are bad to you, for instance who try to harm you with a gun.
>>78914987 >I guess hunting is acceptable, even though you don't need a fucking sniper rifle to do that if you're not a pussy. Glad I have a person who has never touched a gun before like you to tell the rest of us what we need them for.
>>78913330 You know what? I don't care what others think because it's been statistically proven that gun control does not affect crime and murder rates. When Australia and the UK implemented draconian gun laws the gun deaths decreased but murder rates followed the same trend as the rest of the world. It's so sad to think that the rest of the world thinks that guns are evil when it's been proven otherwise. People want to blame their problems on some single entity they can fight instead of a complex network of interrelated forces which is exactly what gun grabbers do.
