Confirm/deny: These are not only the best three entries of phase two, but among the best movies of the MCU as a whole.
I thought Ant Man was completely mediocre. Guardians of the Galaxy was pretty good, mostly since it was detached from the rest of the MCU garbage. I haven't seen Winter Soldier yet but I hear it's their best film.
Even Avengers is better than Ant-Man
Guardians of the Galaxy is leaps and bounds above the other two films, though Ant-Man itself is far superior to The Winter Soldier.
Guardians was a nearly perfect movie. Stood on its own, was massively entertaining, had a moral and a heart, it was a gorgeous action-comedy that worked flawlessly.
Ant-Man was a bit more muddled than that. It had a heart for sure, and it had something to say, but much of that got lost in the need to tie it all into the Marvel universe. The 20 minute or so fight with Falcon being the most egregiously unnecessary addition to a film in recent memory.
The Winter Soldier, in my opinion, is one of the worst Marvel films. While its problems pale in comparison to those of, say, Thor 2, it does almost nothing right.
Winter Soldier starts off strong as a noir spy thriller and mystery movie, but then hands the answer to the mystery to both the audience and the main characters within the first 30 minutes. After that it's a string of fairly boring and predictable action setpieces. For fuck's sake, they actually end the threat to the world with 30 more minutes of runtime left, sucking any and all tension out of the "climactic" fight that effects absolutely nothing and you know both participants will survive.
Seriously, I will never understand why half of /co/ slobbers all over Winter Soldier's cock. The first film was vastly superior.
>Guardians was a nearly perfect movie.
They completely fucked the last act. The climax felt like a tv set, it was stale and flat compared to the rest of the film. Also, Ronan was a shit villain. A horrible combination of the weakest lines and the weakest performance.
Still the best Marvel movie, though.
Spy thriller movie this is like a rejected borne identity plot, it wuz russians and nazis again.
I guess not being a cape shit is the best one.
Children's movie, the disneyfication is real, literally man children hispter the movie especially with that horrible dated soundtrack, and that scene with that blue guy when he was trying to get info on the buyers of that xandarian confirms its children's movie status.
Completely forgettable, I blame the lead actor hes just not superhero material it has no fans and has no hype even worst than thor.
So why is Iron Man 3 considered bad again? I mean other than the Mandarin not really being the Mandarin I thought it was alright. Could've been better if the villain was MODOK imo
Ronan was a total one-note villain, but that was to the film's benefit. There really wasn't time to devote to establishing a sympathetic or involved villain.
He was a petulant child of a villain and that's exactly what the film needed: an unambiguous and powerful evil for the main characters to rally against.
Ant-Man was good, but it being good was more of a result of it being way better than expected, rather than objectively good.
Iron Man, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and The Avengers are probably the best three movies of the MCU so far.
>Iron Man 3
You mean Person Man?
Shitty villain, stupid plot, braindead Tony, he goes most of the movie without his armor, they fluctuate oddly between tones (one scene it's like a kid's movie where the kid is helping the superhero and it's all light and fun, then the next he's gun-murdering a compound of guards).
Yes, objectively one of the best if not the best
Hahaha, holy shit no. Winter Soldier isn't even better than Thor
Right in the middle of the pack boyo.
Top 3 Marvel films are easy. Iron Man 1, Guardians, and Ant-Man.
It used to be Iron Man 1, Guardians, and the first half of First Avenger.
You have shit taste. The first half of the first Captain America movie was amazing, it only got boring once it slipped out of character building and commentary into generic action
Winter Soldier is garbage, don't see it.
>Winter Soldier is garbage and worse than Thor
Ah, I was waiting for the /co/ntrarians to strike when it comes to this movie. Usually it takes only 3 months for people to turn on a MCU film.
>implying this opinion wasn't fairly common right after release
The reception for Winter Soldier was split firmly into two camps.
The first camp is a bunch of drooling idiots sucking the movie's dick for no apparent reason.
The second camp is a bunch of people who expected a noir thriller and got a sub-par action movie with no tension or mystery to speak of.
The Nick Fury action scene is literally the only good part in the entire movie.
>voting in 4chan "awards"
No, but it seems you are.
Winter Soldier sucked and you've got no argument
>people ignore this movie
>same people bitch about hulk 'suddenly' having any control in avengers
It also has a cool Cap set up with Blonsky and he's even one of the better MCU villains.
>Winter Soldier isn't even better than Thor
>a movie about the supernatural where most of the cast are humans and Mjolnir is repeatedly pronounced "mew mew" by one of the characters
>a sub-par action movie with no tension or mystery to speak of
Mystery I can give you, but no tension? As much as it's been hyped on this board, the fight between Cap and Bucky on the streets of DC was one of the most tense moments in any Marvel film so far. The fight aboard the third Project Insight ship was a great final fight for the movie.
Correct. Don't know how that's really debatable. Thor 2 and AoU sucked, and IM3 was only OK. And of the phase 1 movies, I'd say only Iron Man and the first 2/3rds of Captain America (great movie but completely falls apart in the third act) are as good as those three.
>he goes most of the movie without his armor
>hurr TWS sucks but GotG was amazing
Guardians of the Galaxy was an awesome movie, but the way Ronan was defeated was ridiculously dumb. Especially when the Collector said that an ancient group of people tried to share the stone's power but were unable to, and died. Yet a random group of criminals was able to do it?
Other than that, can't complain much about it.
Regular Man 3 sucked.
>the fight between Cap and Bucky
May as well not have existed. The main threat of the movie has been dealt with and we know both characters come back in later movies, so there's absolutely nothing at stake. They could be dancing a ballet instead of fighting and absolutely nothing would change.
>/fit/ rated far higher than /co/, /tg/ and /v/
-decent action setpieces
-A plot that lasted 90 minutes
-some alright comedy to fill the gaps
Winter Soldier had:
-One good action scene (Nick Fury)
-Scarlett Johansson proving she can't act in movies with more than a shoestring budget
-A plot that lasted 45 minutes leaving the rest of the movie to hang like a clingy turd
-No real comedy to speak of
I might've been able to forgive Winter Soldier's shortcomings and chalk it up as a simple popcorn action flick, but that's not what it presents itself as and that's not what people call it. It presents itself as a spy thriller with noir elements and then does a bait-and-switch.
>implying Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth didn't turn in perfectly fine performances in Thor
It ain't shakespeare but they do just fine.
Scarlett Johansson in Winter Soldier earns the coveted Keanu award for "actor or actress who could be replaced with a plank of wood to minimal effect"
>>implying Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth didn't turn in perfectly fine performances in Thor
No, they didn't. Every single person in that movie phoned in their performance, and hemsworth has less presence and charisma than a block of wood. And none of the comedy was even remotely good. The fact that you even have comedy as a plus is ridiculous.
>These are the best three entries of phase two
>These the best movies of the MCU as a whole.
Nope. Phase one had Iron Man and The Avengers. The first Captain America wasn't so bad. I also feel like The Incredible Hulk was underrated.
>implying Thor 2 isn't literally one of the worst movies evar made and worse than the holocaust
I geeezlooooreeeeezz! You would people would prefer GOOD smart movies like American Ultra (aka the greatest movie ever made of this century! Written by the modern Plato, Max Landis). But no, retarded critics and movie-goiers actually gave this...this...TRASH praise! Thor 2 (along with MoS and ASM2) have higher scores on RT than American Ultra!!! This should not be happening!!! Does no one like original ideas anymore? American Ultra was the most original movie ever made (and the greatest). And yet people liked Thor the Dark World more??? This is why cinema is dead....
>No board's average IQ would be above 105 or below 95 because of how averages work. The average IQ is 100
It's the average on a macro scale, not the average for micro groups
A room filled with scientists will have a higher average IQ than... I dunno, Detroit
>le max landis hate meme
Nigger, he's just saying the film industry is shit, which it is. Shitty sequels to comic book movies getting more attention than original IPs is bad in ANY medium. There's nothing wrong with shitting on that idea aside from it being very obvious and kind of pointless to make a bunch of twitter posts about.
I'm not sure you quite understand how incredible rare IQ's over 115 are, and I also think you're attributing too much to intelligence.
Scientists and MD's are the two employments with the highest average IQs, but their averages are still around 110 because having a few outliers in the 130 and up range isn't enough to counterract the vast majority of people who are more average.
>Winter Soldier was the best
maybe something like this is more your speed
because a person who turns out to be a sleeper agent and is hunted by the government is an original idea?
also, the shitty movie had Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, and Topher Grace. it was doomed from the start.
>Completely forgettable, I blame the lead actor hes just not superhero material it has no fans and has no hype even worst than thor
Nigga, I've been pulling for Ant-Man since day fucking one, and while it's not a groundbreaking film, I'd say it's still great enough to warrant Ant-Man being an MCU mainstay
Also fuck you, Rudd is goddamn based
>Ronan was a total one-note villain, but that was to the film's benefit.
A good performance could have hammered in those one dimensional lines and made him seem like a legitimate threat instead of a vague stock plot device. Tons of cape movies are forgetting that the heroes need to overcome obstacles to be heroes, getting the villains right is fucking crucial.
I gave my reasons.
Had they made an effort have an actual mystery or somehow made the stakes of the Bucky/Cap fight beyond personal (as we know beforehand that both survive so there can be no suspense as to whether one of them dies, we need some outside goal or danger) then the movie would've been alright.
>people complain about comedy being too prevalant in MCU movies
>winter soldier is the first MCU movie besides iron man to have any real stakes to the story and ignoring the shitty comedy MCU normally does
>for this, its praised as MCU's best movie
>you complain its bad because no comedy
You want another quipfest like how AoU was? Fuck off with that joke every two minutes bullshit. Why do you think Winter Soldier was praised as a decent MCU movie? Because it ignored that crappy comedy MCU has in every fucking movie. Fuck off contrain
>you complain it's bad because no comedy
That was simply a comparison to Thor and is the absolute least of my concerns. Some levity helps to contrast with more serious plots and keep the audience from feeling fatigued.
Far more problematic are the major flaws in the story's structure (revealing the mystery way too early, resolving the plot well before the climactic action sequence)
I realize you're totally incapable of defending the movie from all but the most ridiculously altered of strawman arguments, but at least put in a tiny bit of effort.
