Would like to discuss the current state of X-comics because I haven't been on here lately.
What's the consensus on that last twist in Extraordinary? Was that really Rightclops?
I am pleasantly surprised at the quality of all these new X-books. Girlverine started out shitty but looks like it's getting better.
90s Cyclops costume is the best. And MvC2 had the coolest art.
>I am pleasantly surprised at the quality of all these new X-books.
Extraordinary is boring, nonsensical and misses characterizations constantly.
All-New X-Men is mediocre to the point of being completely irrelevant
Uncanny X-Men seems nice enough, but is currently drawn by fucking Land.
Uncanny Avengers actually sort of drew my interest after I originally dismissed it, but I'm not sure if that will actually last.
I liked the direction the X-Men were going pre-HoM with "aite lets just make a bunch of teams with random superpowers and watch them work" but now seeing the same old guys work their same old powers that they had decades ago is starting to get boring
>there's reality where X-Men are loved and adored
>lol, let me destroy it because Scott Summers
I'm especially fond of Gambit, dude using old timey rifle out of nowhere.
Compare that Lobdell to today's Red Hood/Teen Titans.
>mfw X-Men comics will never be fun, semi-light-hearted standard superhero romps, with the team united at the mansion, a large student body and nobody hating each other
Why live. I'm almost done with Marvel.
>Cable falling out of fucking nowhere
If only one man was less right...
That aside, we gotta have SCHISM! Because happy fans are bad fans and flamethrowers in noncombative school are good things.
I want to shank Aaron so bad.
Why can't the good times last? Why is it that Marvel writers are only capable of coming up with three stories these days: "X-Men break down the middle", "X-Men are on the run" and "X-Men/mutants are on the verge of extinction".
We want to see them win, Marvel. They've been in a downward spiral for so many years it's gotten boring.
I like this Storm.
Shared universe was a mistake. And Marvel really, really, REALLY loves status quo. And if X-Men were to win, status quo would change and everyone would lose their heads!
>Scott, you're my bestest friend! Wanna go to eat pancakes? ^.^
>8 months later
>X-Men are warriors, not killers like Cyclops! >:(
And that'd be all I have from team pictures. Rest are single character only or OTP.
"Hey, we have a mutant here who can cure any disease, even cancer."
"This one can stop a tsunami by looking at it."
"This one invented a clean, safe source of infinite energy."
"That dude can stop earth-quakes."
"This lady can make a hurricane dissipate in seconds."
"This one can see the future."
HATED AND FEARED
>Mutant who can cure any disease can also cause them, gives a guy inoperable cancer to blackmail him
>Mutant who can see the future is convinced to just use it to play the stock market by the blue lady she's fucking
>Mutant who can invent infinite clean energy can't actually put it into effect because his powers tell him how to build it, but don't fix the problem that the machine will take years of dedicated focus to build
>Mutants who can stop tsunamis, hurricanes, and earthquakes can also cause them, usually for the purpose of robbing banks and jacking armored cars
Welcome to the X-men, hope you survive the experience.
>robbing banks and jacking armored cars
I've often wondered about those sort of low-level, unimaginative crooks with incredible powers. Hydro-Man, Electro, Speed Demon - wouldn't they make more money in a Heroes For Hire kinda situation? And probably more easily too?
>wouldn't they make more money in a Heroes For Hire kinda situation? And probably more easily too?
Because they're so unimaginative, they tend to lean towards "low risk, high reward". Being a hero for hire means you need a situation where someone would pay as much, if not more than a Kingpin or Justin Hammer would, and would more likely put you up against people more willing to kill you instead of Spider-Man webbing you up to go back to prison again.
Spider-Man was and sometimes is considered a menace. Some folks also thought that he was a mutie.
In Doctor Strange series there used to be occasionally people protesting outside of his house and considering magic = satanism
Even Avengers got their own share of hatred
there's always an invisible risk that your kid will be born a mutant, and people blame mutants for that because finding out your daughter is and always will be a living radioactve power plant is the kind of thing that fills you with the need to blame someone
non-mutant (and now non-inhuman) teens with powers are really really rare and most manage to maintain their secret identity at least until adulthood.
The recent Captain Falcon issue with Diamondback made a good point about that, there really isn't going to be much demand for that kind of work and competition is going to be high due to all the other guys in the same business. Most actual merc work involves killing people for money and private security, outside a comparatively small number of jobs, mostly involves sitting in an office watching a camera feed. Plus their extensive criminal backgrounds legally prevents them from working security in some states. Realistically, Hydro-Man would be better off in industry - purifying water or in oil fracking, Electro going back to the power company and supplying extra power during peak demand times and as a mobile power station, and Speed Demon would probably work best as a bodyguard since he can react faster than assailants.
>And Marvel really, really, REALLY loves status quo.
but they got the status quo wrong. Until the second half of the 90es the status quo was that the future one that could go terribly wrong or incredibly well, and the x-men had to fight to protect hope and to keep building a better future.
While the villains tried to destroy mutants and the x-men had to stop them and protect the status-quo.
Te current status quo is one where the villain have won and the x-men must keep losing.
Not a huge fan of costume+jacket since with most artists it tends to overbulk the torso and usually comes off clashing with the underlying costume.
I mean that when the X-Men find a mutant kid it should be Scott in a nice suit with his visor sitting down and talking to the kid and his/her parents.
I want to punch that Xavier.
Is it bad that I actually want Cyclops to be in Uncanny or All-new Inhumans instead of any of the X-books? I like Soule well enough and McNiven and Caselli are both great artists. In comparison, all the X-books are saddled with either shit or mediocre art and shit or mediocre writing. I hate the way they've been shitting on Cyclops, but at this point, i don't want him anywhere near the X-men. They turned their back on him? Fine, fuck them.
I'm not interested in this whole x-fans vs. inhumans pissing match and just want to see my favorite character(s) appear in good books.
Hoping UA gets better because I need more Cable in my life.
In fact, when I look at the rosters, the only characters I care about in the X-books are:
Which, just, fuck man. It's hard for me to care about an X-book that doesn't have any of the characters I like while also not being interesting enough to be carried on the back of the creative team alone.
He's not the only one missing but he is the only one reported dead. Good as punch dimension eyes are I can't imagine he did something so bad that people can't even mention what it was on his own. It would be an interesting twist if he was framed though.
>Maybe he killed Black Bolt!
>No, he's alive.
>He killed Medusa!
>Killed anyone with name?
Whatever reason for HATEHATEHAETHETA, it'll be idiotic.
>If you hate "it was all a dream", then it sucks.
Except it wasn't. Legion altered reality and stuff that happened there had real world consequences i.e. Tempo dying and Frenzy's left over feeling for Rightclops.
More like Quentin and whatever teen x-men.
If you remember and the end of wolverine and the x-men v2 Quentin aquire the hellfire club and in the solicitation for uncanny x-men we will find out who is running the club.
Is most likely to be Quentin
This reminds me.
Do we know how Polaris reacted to Wanda and Pietro not being mutants and neither her half siblings?iirc she still resent Wanda for M day and could only stand her because she was her half sister. But now she is not only not her sister but she is a not-mutant that committed mutant genocide.
All New X-Factor ended right before AXIS, didn't it? I just remember Quicksilver leaving the team before we are left in a cliffhanger but I don't think he told Lorna about this.
A lot of it is because mutants are born that way and you had people like Magneto violently advocating for mutant supremacy. To the average MU citizen this makes it seem like there is a race of people who are born more powerful than them threatening to replace them and saying "get with the program or we'll violent cull you". That's not happening with Spider-Man, Doctor Strange or Reed.
The problem comes from the fact that mutants are born while the others tend to be made. The average MU citizen doesn't need to worry that they're going to be outbred into extinction by a guy who was bitten by a spider, but they DO need to worry about the fact they will by people who are born by seemingly random chance with the X-gene. That was kind of a big part of the background of Morrison's run was the demographic shift. Think of the same reason people get pissed at Mexicans in America or Arabs in Europe.
Uncanny Avengers has some cool stuff if you can get past the terrible first arc and if you don't mind much character development. It's basically Remender's sequel to Uncanny X-Force.
>Is most likely to be Quentin
Yay, more Hellfire Babies.
I still don't get it. Madelyne Pryor is fucking alive and nobody even cares, no writer gets around to it and all we get is other pointless bullshit.
Ah fucking monkey's paw. I bet Hopeless is going to use her and utterly waste her again.
No, mutants specifically have the X-Gene which is what gives them their abilities/classifies them as mutants; it's why Mayday's not a mutant.
Technically Mutant is a separate species. Everyone else is a mutate.
>Read somewhere that powered people have mutants kids so I rolled with it.
Some powered people have mutant kids. Reed and Sue's son is a mutant despite Reed and Sue being mutates, not mutants. But not all super-babies are mutants. Some just inherited their parents powers.
All of that X-Men in-fighting shit is stupid.
>We may have our differences, Slim, but I respect you as a man and a leader and I trust you to do both.
>30 minutes later
>FUCK YOU CYCLOPS YOU'RE A PIECE OF SHIT SCHISM SCHISM SCHISM
>Scott, you and I have been friends for years and I trust you implicitly. The C-Men wouldn't be the X-Men without you.
>30 minutes later.
>SCOTT IS A FAGGOT I'M BRINGING BACK ALL THE X-MEN FROM THE PAST FOR NO FUCKING REASON AND THEY'RE HERE TO STAY.
>I'm a leader who's known for being level-headed, cool, willing to be diplomatic and who is respected by the likes of Captain America and Reed Richards.
>Haha, jk, I'm Magneto Jr. now! X GON' GIVE IT TO YA, GET THE FUCK OFF MY ISLAND!
Aside from Xavier's/Jean Grey's School for Gifted Youngsters what other schools for mutants there have been?
I know that Emma ran one back in the day and she tried to snatch Kitty first for her school, though I can't recall the name, I believe it was destroyed.
Oh, and the New Xavier school that Cyclops and Emma ran for a while, but that read more like militant training for his 'revolution'.
But you gotta admit, "get the hell off my island" was neat moment.
And Schism really overstayed its welcome. If I had any say in matter, I'd make Right School create X-Men, while Lame School would have mutants who want to be civilians.
None. There are superhero schools, like Avengers Academy and Braddock Institute, but no mutant schools.
Sure, there was Hellfire Institute, but we're gentlemen of taste so we don't discuss that atrocity.
Extraordinary has been extraordinarily terrible.
All New has no impact as the story has no context to the events its based off of.
First uncanny book was kind of meh. why doesn't Archangel have the cosmic wings? Why is he archangel again anyway?
Archangel =/= cosmic Angel. Originals have no connection to young versions, except they die when young version is killed. But, as you can see, nothing changed with older Warren, he doesn't have cosmic upgrade. Likewise older Scott doesn't remember young Scott's adventure in space.
It gave us a neat costume and this.
> why doesn't Archangel have the cosmic wings? Why is he archangel again anyway?
You're thinking of the wrong Angel. The O5 Angel has the cosmic wings, current angel has been reverted back to Archangel because blahblah Death Seed blahblah stuff no one read in Wolverine and the X-Men.
Honestly, I kind of prefer Archangel being like this literal weapon that Psylocke controls. There's an interesting relationship to explore there... unlike what fucking happened with Psylocke's and Fantomex's relationship. What a clusterfuck that was.
I liked Fantomex alot in Remender's X-Force and Spurrier's X-Force. They came up with some interesting dynamics for him. Everywhere else he's pretty terrible in the hands of "grounded" writers though he's only really been in one other run (Humphries' X-Force).
We'll see how this Fantomex turns out but it's hard to say.
Betsy is just a magnet for bad writing. Shame, really.
Any news on Hope and Domino ever showing up again? Cable is running around in Extraordinary, right? It's weird that the mutant messiah is now just a footnote that's been replaced with the fucking O5 X-Men.
Domino will show up sooner or later but Hope's in a spot where no one knows what to do to her but Simon and Simon's not doing shit. Maybe she and her team will have a cameo doing stuff somewhere in the background (weren't Psylocke still on her team when she booted Cable? What's up with that?)
Nah. I want same thing, but with Summers family.
are you kidding that's an awesome piece you've got a great mix of new and old X-artists, David Lopez and Phil Noto should have been replaced with someone more integral to X-History but the Lopez section is still strong.
>Fantomex has become self-parody by this point.
He was a parody from his inception.
A completely over the top version of Gambit.
I can't really place where it all went wrong. I just think he overstayed his welcome. I would've hoped that he wouldn't show up for a while after what Spurrier wrote, but then Spurrier gets ignored all the time.
>Meggan's holed up in the bedroom since last night and refuses to leave. Something about EastEnders.
>Called Betsy to wish her a happy birthday. She called me a "preening, privileged participant in the military-industrial complex relishing his whiteness," before reiterating loudly that she's still a lesbian. I reminded her that she's an upper-class white woman culturally appropriating a Japanese corpse. She hung up on me.
>Then James called, which was alarming because he's supposed to be dead, talking about eyeless children and a black star. Also, that Newcastle is going to win the FA Cup.
>I had to cut his ramblings short when Wisdom showed up at my front door covered in blood asking to borrow a shovel and my backyard.
>Originals have no connection to young versions, except they die when young version is killed.
And that's why it is fucking retarded
>current angel has been reverted back to Archangel because blahblah Death Seed blahblah stuff no one read in Wolverine and the X-Men.
You are right, I didn't read it. Last I saw Angel was when Teen Angel met him.
agreed Best Storm costume ever shame she only wore it for like 4 months
with the X-Men fucking around in demon country Maddie will be back to get scolded by Teen Jeen any month now.
>Maddie will be back to get scolded by Teen Jeen any month now.
Where did it all go so fucking wrong. It shouldn't have to be like this.
why is Colossus dressed like Saejima?
Well, he was turned into a Death in Uncanny Avengers, and they left it nebulous what happened to him, but since Daken, Grim Reaper, and Sentry are all still alive, I think it's fair to say he is too?
For me Uncanny is easily the best, total nostalgia bomb, it reads just like X-Men books used to when I started buying X-Men comics many many moons ago.
All-New is a mess, you don't have a feel for most of the cast, Idle, Evan (have they even used their powers yet?) Angel, Iceman and Wolverine might as well not even be in the book.
the book should be renamed "Even As Kids: Beast Hates Scott Summers"
well I kinda like how Dr. Doom's Secret Wars Goon Platoon are getting pushes post SW, Maddie would be a great villain for just about anyone, her vs Thor or Angela would be ready made big money fights but Jean Grey is like black hole the pull is too strong to ignore.
>her vs Thor or Angela would be ready made big money fights but Jean Grey is like black hole the pull is too strong to ignore.
No, stop. Bad idea. Let Avenger villains job to girl power.
>Maddie would be a great villain for just about anyone, her vs Thor or Angela would be ready made big money fights
X-Men have only one single villain left.
Uncanny X-Men had to resort to the most obscure 90s villains imaginable just to operate at all.
The last thing we need is for an interesting X-Men villain to go out and fight terrible gimmick Avengers characters in terrible gimmick books.
I miss the days of Faction and Carey and Kyle/Yost.
I think my two favorite periods are ~01 to ~04 and ~08 to ~early 12.
2013 to now has just sucked.
Note - I do enjoy Claremont's 70's and 80's stuff, but it did not age well, at least not to someone who started reading comics in 2001, lol.
>This will never be mentioned again
I still need to read Kyle/Yost and Claremont. Haven't heard any great things about Fraction. I should really read teh Morrison runs too.
Yes, Scott, babies wear diapers.
Adults should not.
Surprisingly enough, she's the one Claremont woman who didn't have the lesbian subtext. Instead Claremont gave her one of his other fetishes (mind control) while Dani/Rahne and Kitty/Ilyana got the lesbian subtext.
She kind of bopped around in the '90s looking for her brother and sister with Beast and Wolverine, then showed up in X-Force #75 (the Burning Man issue) with short cropped pink hair and living with two other dykey looking women. Nothing was outright stated but the hints were obvious.
So Claremont I guess saw that, his fetish meter overloaded and we got the Mekanix mini with the not-so-subtle lesbian undertones with her and Kitty... then NM v2 immediately squashed that ship. IIRC the writers at the time mentioned on a forum that they knew they'd catch a lot of shit from Kitty fanboys if they went with making her a lesbian and didn't want to deal with it.
Really, Shan had nothing even remotely resembling any kind of romantic life. And outside of a few minor false starts via blatant hinting (Kitty in Mekanix, Luna in NM/NXM, Warbird in Astonishing) she STILL has no love life whatsoever.
I was talking about the artstyle of the (at the time) Capcom's inhouse artist.
Where it went wrong was that you had other writers (Remender and the like) either not getting the concept fo the character or ignoring it in favor of shoehorning him into a role they needed and he only superficially (and very loosely at that) fulfilled. Seems to happen to a lot of Morrison's Marvel characters i.e. what happened to Marvel Boy and Quentin Quire.
Kyle/Yost's NXM will have one of two reactions: you'll either love it or you'll absolutely hate it. I fall into the latter camp; didn't find any of it interesting and it did lasting damage to that generation of kids not in-story but out of it. I get the impression most view them as nothing but PTSD sufferers who will break down when faced with any adversity so better to ignore them.
Breaking chains, since Sentinel... chained him. It's homage to FF #1.
I miss Carey and K&Y, but come on mand, Fraction
>Magneto Kneeling to Cyclops
>Everyone is a background character
>The fucking designer X-Men bad Guys
>Fucking up the Battleworld aliens
>Those annoying as fuck character briefs
>Magneto, Cyclops, Namor, Emma main X-Men, ignoring all the others
>Cyclops is always right
I'll credit it with trying to do something different, but the main book was pretty garbage
