So Peridot appears to be a member of the Crystal gems now so will naturally get more screentime, and Lapis seems likely to if not join the gems at least finally be a stable recurring character, plus there's whatever Jasper's final fate will be. I am wondering how many more major recurring characters do you think they can add without overloading the cast?

Peridot doesn't seem like it would overburden them too much but if lapis were to join it'd make 6 separate members of the crystal gems to divide the focus between in addition to Greg and the other humans. Hopefully Lapis ends up being a neutral character who pops in from time to time.

Well my friend with the bizarre fetish, the thing I like most about the show is just how well it balances all of it's disparate elements and genres, Slice of Life, Comedy, Drama, Action and some Horror, into one some coherent package. It's surprising and impressive that they are actually able to make the short 11 minute time from work for them in most cases to enhance the "everyday" feeling of the show.

If I were to pick just a single element, then probably the music.

The original Avatar struck me as a show that would of been a lot better overall if it wasn't shackled with the "hey, it's for kids!" mentality we give cartoons in the US.

Then Korra ironically seemed less shackled by this limitation, but just had weaker writing and less interesting characters.

We can't win. The thing about SU I like is it manages to have mature themes while still having really good writing. Not too often does it feel like it's being help back for the sake of children. Well, unless you live outside the US and they censor out all the "gay" that is.

General consensus is something like: season 3 is the best overall with an interesting set of villains, season 1 stumbled at parts (especially the finale), season four averages out to decent, and season 2 is the worst overall and has a poor villain, but still has a few good moments.
