I really like the art and main characters and would love to molest KJ, but I have no idea where this ride is going.

Alot of it so far seems there to just stir up nostalgic feelings, or in the case of the dream sequences act as symbolism for later events. I don't think we'll really know how impactful these symbols are in the story for at least another couple of issues.
