This movie looks generic as fuck. Why is everyone so hyped about it?
you think it looks generic but the truth is that is the Disney style, each and every other animation company has copied their style for years thus making the original Disney style look generic as fuck.
Funny, so did Frozen.
People hyped the movie up, and it was pretty mediocre and forgettable. Yet remember all the Frozen threads and generals here? Shit lasted like a full year after the movie came out!
>Why is everyone so hyped about it?
Because the animals give them boners.
Honestly it looks like a fun comfy movie and is far more appealing than the typical bland, boring princess shit that you see from Disney
>OP: Why is everyone talking about shit?
>Another Zootopia thread. Sigh
>Jesus Christ, another?
>Looks generic like shit
Is this Zootopia thread or a thread about Zootopia threads? It looks like zombie resurrected via shitposting.
First Disney movie to be 100% rendered/shot in 4K, past movies like Frozen were only rendered in 2K (Disney does have the money to re shot/render it mind you but this was the first to be started in 4K).
you don't want frozen in 4k, look you can fucking see the pixels on some of the textures
I CAN'T STOP WHISTLING IT
Is does MLP still have a fanbase? Is the show even running?
I have never been to the containment board but I imagine it looks like the aftermath of a nuclear fallout with the dead and dying slowly shambling through the ruins of civilization.
The rabbit is not for sexy, the rabbit is for cute. At least, that's the way she was tactically designed.
I watched it when it first started, because /co/ said it was a fun show. Thought season 1 was decent and kinda cute. Watched a few episodes in season 2 and just stopped. Wasn't really my cup of tea.
Is still there, but it is severly weaker than 3 years ago. Other fanbases like FNAF, SU or Undertale pushed them out of the mainstream spotlight
Its going to be ressurected with the 2017 movie or it will die out completely like Ten Titans fanbase.
Why are you surprised that people are hyped for a Disney animated movie on a message board for cartoons? Disney + cute character designs + interesting setting = hype. The Zootopia hype has been mostly kept to one threat at a time so why do you care?
It started to do season long plots and Twilight's wings killed the major plot.
First 3 seasons are all about Twilight learning magic, but after Magical Cure the show starts doing goal of the season.
First season had minor sub-plot leading to the season finale. 2nd is just a mishmash. 3rd starts with lead to finale. And 4 & 5 both start with 2 part opening episodes and character specific episodes that lead to finale. 5th also drops hints in the non-character specific episodes.
It tells you what to look forward to, and thats the finale. Weres with the first 3 seasons you just want to see what happens to the characters.
We'll know something in 10 days, anyway. With the exception of the two on the top left and two on the bottom right, all of these books launch on January 19th.
It's just fun speculation. I mean a girly guy who flaunts pink merch of a pop idol and is besties with a girl her doesn't want to fug sounds kind of gay. But he could be straight too. Whatever, it's 2016.
OP, if it matters at all, I agree with you. Looks completely by-the-numbers.
But then, people eat up whatever Pixar and Disney shit out these days.
But the French also hate everyone, so they might be spoilering shit just for the sake of it, also don't forget the summarized books coming out the 19th of January
nice find, man!
also we saw her toys at last, too bad there's a human twat on the pictures as well.
And you'd be correct. The show was never anything particularly great, but initially it was a fun show for young girls that had better writing than most, for the first two seasons at least.
The real heyday of the show and fandom was seasons 1 through 3, and Season 3 was when the show took a sharp decline in quality. The fandom's autism only got further distilled from that point on, but fortunately it decreased in size which is why it's not everywhere anymore.
Also, a lot of the artists went back to making furry art because bronies were just an easily exploited new sub market, that eventually shrank in size too much to be worth pandering to-- or they got sick of the show, and it wasn't worth keeping up with just to chase every trend, fad and meme in the fandom. There are still dedicated brony artists, but as a subculture it's on its way out.
Cute and sexy are not mutually exclusive. If they were, cute women would never be able to have kids. Cuteness is a means of instilling feelings of protectiveness, which often translates into attraction.
It was in a unique position of overlapping with several niches in western entertainment that weren't being filled, and we're at a point now where those niches are being filled more specifically by other things which is why the fandom disbanded. MLP's success was basically a microcosm of the Sonic fandom, the furry fandom, the Disney fandom, and moe fandom, with some other fandoms like Harry Potter and Homestuck sprinkled in. Now that the hype around the show is dying out though, they're all migrating back to their respective fandoms. It brought together the most obsessed fans from all those fandoms, but as the interest in the show waned, they didn't have much reason to stick together.
Zootopia will never be "the next MLP" because it's not the same weird overlap of different interests. That would be a poor way to measure its success anyway. It's going to be much more popular with the mainstream audience and has found quite a lot of fans already, but it more specifically has a hook among people who like anthropomorphic animal characters (which let's be honest includes a lot of people, not just the "furry fandom"), while also being appealing to the mainstream audience just by nature of using Disney's winning formula for animated blockbusters.
Yes and no, the show is on permanent hiatus because of Discovery Family's screwed up scheduling, but the fandom, reputation and all, is most certainly still here. As for the board itself, there are indeed some threads like what you are describing, but there's also some next-level Animal Farm type stuff, with the ongiong novel known as My Little Progress: Technology Isn't Magic. For more information, visit me on /mlp/.
Those came out before Frozen too though, and they really don't spoil that much. They're usually extremely vague retellings of the basic concept behind the movie, retold in a few pages with one sentence each. If you read one of the kids' books for Frozen before it came out you'd know that Elsa and Anna were sisters who had grown apart because of Elsa's powers, Elsa ran away, and Anna was able to bring her back by being a loving sister. That's basically the plot of the movie, but there are so many details missing that it's not even a cliffnotes version.
I remember having a Star Wars popup book as a kid and thinking it was ridiculous that the Death Star battle was only one page long, and it was resolved by Luke just firing his X-Wing's lasers at the space station.
Well, one way it got worse was through panda rings like no tommorrow as of Season 2 through 4, and most notably episode 100, where they take one risk too many and bring Derpy back in the limelight, with speaking roles and everything. I'm surprised Hasbro staff didn't get triggered knowing that this was happening and just take Derpy down again.(don't ask, it's a glitch that went too far) Would've made the episode a lot easier to work with, and maybe even child-friendly again.
They actually did the death star battle as an animatic using old stock footage from World War 2. The storyboards were mostly to give the clips context so the special effects people knew what they were looking at.
I'd figure most animals would bathe regularly with brushes and maybe water-soaked towels, taking water baths only maybe once a week at most.
Brushing gets rid of surface dirt on the fur and removes loose/damaged fur, so it would probably be enough for an anthro to do it daily. Taking too many water baths would remove natural oils and cause skin conditions.
Because /b/ sucks up all the normies that want an edgier alternative to 9gag to brag about and don't care enough about a particular interest to go to that board.
People on /co/ have at the bare minimum a passing interest in narratives and settings so we can have a discussion beyond "I wanna fuck that bunny".
Also, lack of moderation. Notice how often posts get deleted in /co/ Zootopia threads despite how surprisingly civil they are. Furfaggotry doesn't fly here.
Because furries are different from people who actually give a fuck about anthros in media.
They only wish to indulge in perversion and escapism, anthros are merely a vehicle for their desires, we want something beyond that.
A board for us would be a furry-enabled /tg/, not an /aco/+/s4s/ mutant like trash.
I haven't looked at ponyshit for years. I was simply contrasting it against Zootopia.
And speaking of which, one of the biggest differences between Zootopia and MLP is that Zootopia is very deliberately intended to appeal to both kids and adults. A significant chunk of its box office take is going to be from adults with no children. MLP on the other hand is at the end of the day very much a show for young children, which just happened to spawn a very vocal adult fandom.
This thread is shitposting. /co/'s hate for furries has reached autistic levels of shitposting, enough to create ironic shitposting threads about it.
I wish there was more to talk about on this movie, but its the same furries every thread.
It looks a little generic, but the character designs are decent.
But guys, imagine this for a sec. Animated Blacksad. How hard would your dicks be/10?
What's generic about it? Blacksad is closer to being generic since the "animal person" thing only serves to make a statement about people being animals. Zootopia isn't just animal people, their species plays into the setting and the story.
>What's generic about it?
I think he's talking about it being a simple buddy cop movie.
Is just me or seems Disney dont released in a long time a movie with anthro characters? after princess and the frong i dont remember...
I have the sensation anthro characters, specialy femenine ones with hips and breast are less comon this days than the 90's
Hot Fuzz was a buddy cop movie but it managed to be very unique and fresh.
My memory might be a little off, but as I recall the last one Disney did was Chicken Little, which was a huge disaster due to how terrible it was. It was like Disney was trying to prove they could make it without Pixar and John Lasseter, and only proved that they couldn't (which is why they ended up buying them when their distribution deal ran out).
They've done other talking animal movies since then, but not one with anthro characters.
Hot Fuzz is also an a satirical comedy aimed at playing with the buddy cop formula.
I didn't say it was a bad thing and I guess we won't know how fresh it is until we see the movie.
I generally prefer when they make at least some acknowledgment that the characters are animals rather than going with "animal-shaped humans." In Blacksad the characters don't even have tails.
It's still competently written and they're getting better at story arcs and continuity but the tone has changed, it's more of a 'big' cartoon than the restrained small scale slice of life adventures it used to be. They rarely ever stay in the home town anymore, it's almost always travelling to grand new locations
"Disney style" at this point is just having a massive budget so you don't need to have a unique artstyle to make up for shortcomings, so you get a film that looks amazing but doesn't have anything that stands out besides being "pretty" from a budget perspective
I just want to blow raspberries on his belly.
It might be worth it as long as you can put up with some show-changing toy mandates (purple horse is an alicorn with her own castle now)
There's a couple standout episodes, the main one particularly is the weird al musical episode in S4. The premier and finale of S5 are both pretty good too, the two are somewhat linked and a lot could have gone wrong in the finale but it was handled surprisingly well. Amending Fences is another really good one, it addresses something about the very first episode that had never really been considered before in the show. I like the 100th episode for being super light hearted and fun but that one depends entirely on how much tolerance you have for the show referencing fan stuff
Give it a shot, if you can't handle it then pick and choose what's considered to be the best episodes
Just learned there's a legit reason for no birds/reptiles. Zootopia is the greatest MAMMAL city on their planet, and birds/reptiles would be explored in a potential sequel
It will set the precedent for the furfag invasion.
Furfags will come out of hiding and send us into the depths of depravity.
When the day comes, and it will come, don't say I didn't warn you.
if this came out 10 years earlier I could see people calling this a Madagascar ripoff
those people would be stupid but I could see that happening
It actually seems more similar to Monsters Inc.
he's exaggerating, but
>mods/janitors have been getting more anal about "furry"
>this is a new Disney animated movie
>people will want to make threads, talk about it, draw fanart, etc
>you can't ban a new Disney animated movie from /co/ without tons of backlash
>some mods are so bad they delete completely worksafe drawing because they can be "furry"
>Disney is marketing this so hard I wouldn't be surprised if there was a zootopia world in KH3
The terrible horrible nursery rhyme song/animation, I'm used to by now. The disappointment is that it claims to be Zootopia in the title while Zootopia takes up less than two minutes of the runtime and the rest is filled up with random.
At least the Frozen ones had 3D models and dancing.
The character designs in Zootopia are much more pleasant to look at though. I wouldn't necessarily call them more "realistic" but somehow they look more real. Madagascar had that edgy Dreamworks thing going on and I guess it appeals to a different aesthetic sensibility.
Last year I saw a WEBM scrolling through the archive of deleted Bloodbourne shitposts. Hundreds of them. That's going to feel like a walk in the park for mods compared to Zootopia threads.
You know why this shit exists? Because the most viewed videos of all time on Youtube are nursery rhymes. Billions and billions of views, from all those parents whose wee tots who won't shut up unless they're looking at "the wheels on the bus go round and round" for the 1,000th time that week.
>what, there's no Zootopia category yet?
>I guess Zoolander is close enough
And everyone's trolling everyone on that first one.
>Judy can feel the bottom of her own eyeball with her tongue
>oh, I remember that place
>see fanon I created five years ago now
It's not fetishes that are the issue, it's like there's a whole different culture and etiquette for behavior. It's like some weird /b/ abomination. You can see it if you spend any time on /trash/.
Judy and Nick clearly break into this place and escape down the waterfall, only to be caught later by Bogo
Just watching the trailer and noticed Judy's jumpsuit gets all shiny when it's wet
Not really any surprise there. The movie is not even out yet, so I don't know how there could be any quality fanfiction of it. It's hard enough to find a good fanfic for something that's been out for years.
Madagascar is definitely more stylised, alex's mane has pointy edges and their noses are all pointy spirals
Zootopia is more traditional anthro, just animals with human proportions
Nah, all the carnivores eventually must murder and devour someone. With a large number of the population effectively compulsive serial killers the police are there to at least try to keep civilization from being destroyed.
I can't really focus on it anymore either.I watched Maud Pie and that communist pony episodes then havent really checked up on it.
I truly like the idea of pushing morals and ideas but I kinda think I would like it better if I was watching it with my own kid or something.
>Nick is plantigrade
>Wolf cop is digitigrade
My inner OCD/furry is going nuts....
Maybe this really is a Zoo
Maybe that's the mystery behind it--that it's a vet hospital with strange human artifacts.....
Maybe the sheep secretary is the villain--you do notice she's in a lot of promotional posters....
He isn't though. You probably combined both his feet together combined with his slight squatting posture to create the illusion that he's digitigrade, when his whole foot is resting comfortably on the ground.
>it was just some girl playing with her plushies!
>its like pottery
AM I THE ONLY ONE SEEING THIS SHIT?
.... are people still falling for these?
So if the police force doesnt hire small animals, what happens to mice and other tiny species? Do they just not bother policing them? How is a rino cop going to search a mouse premisis without utterly destroying a city block?
>it's fucking nothing
>implying this is nothing
Obviously this cover needs to be remade with nick and the rabbit girl
I think we'd all be a little more interested if it kept the initial concept artstyle and was 2D. It looked way neater that way.
Hell no more fucking 3D shit if you're gonna be medicore with it (Last Dino, etc).
They have insane tech that they showed with Paper Man, what the fuck happened to that.
I love good 2d but it's never gonna happen again.
>frozen was originally gonna be 2d
>gets smash cut into 3d at the last moment with the dodgiest 3d animation in a disney feature I've ever seen
>everything looks like plasticine with low res textures
>1.7 billion dollars
It was going to be 2d back in 1941 when Walt was considering it as an Animated feature. When Disney pulled it out of the vault to make Frozen, they never had any intention of making it 2d. The CG is actually supposed to be an improvement, especially the skin, something like Subdermal light diffusion, part of the light that hits the skin penetrates through it like normal skin. Though I agree that much of the CG looked less good than Tangled or Wreck-it Ralph, it wasn't because it was rushed. It's more likely it's because 90% of the R&D budget for the CG went to snow effects.
I noticed some weird janky edits toward the latter part of the movie that just don't happen in animated movies now where everything can be perfectly seamlessly edited together which just struck me as a budgetary concerns or like it was done at the last moment or something.
I can't figure it out but the whole thing is just off, it looks so ugly for it's budget.
compare it to any dreamworks movie from the last 5 years and it's just weirdly cheap looking.
At this point though it's far from a spectacular movie, I've started taking criticisms of Frozen with a grain of salt considering so many people here are falling over themselves to say how terrible it was and latching onto any thing they can get their hands on to try to support that assertion whether it has any merit or not.
I like the movie, it's an 8/10
elsa is a bit of mary sue, the animation in it's rendering and lighting is ugly (the motion is good) and "can we build a snowman" sounds like the theme from free willy 2 but aside from that it's a good movie.
>no previous experience with animation
>can't hold a quiet, subtle tone for more than 8 minutes without interrupting with high-paced gore or goofy small talk
>directing a noir animated movie
You can't be serious.
It is hard to come up with a suitable director though, I'll give you that. I'd go with Glen Keane with maybe (maybe) a pre-Hobbit Peter Jackson if you can convince him to keep the runtime short.
So the studio that the DIRECTOR hires on to animate scenes that the DIRECTOR wants them to animate and has to get the DIRECTORS final approval before appearing in the DIRECTORS film is responsible for directing the film?
>Zootopia isn't just animal people, their species plays into the setting and the story.
One of Blacksad stories was literally an analogy of fur color = skin color regarding racism.
Which only made for one of the weirder Blacksad plots. I liked it, but the analogy fell a little flat. The arctic nation was cute, but it didn't have to happen with animal people and actually works better when it's about people getting mad about skin color.
Chief is the villain
thanks for the spoiler, asshole.
it's not furry enough for some people.
kinda unbelievable that they miss the point of the noir aesthetic. You CAN'T have women that don't look like classic beauty icons in one, they're as vital to the setting as the grit of the environments and colors.
I have never in my life been attracted to a fictional animal before.
In fact, I typically spoke against furries, thinking they were all brain damaged.
But this rabbit though. Holy shit. What is wrong with me.
They originally made Toy Story in sub-720p resolution but were able to re-render it in 2K for theatrical 3D release and 1080p for Blu-ray, certainly it should be even easier to do the same thing with Frozen (though Frozen sucks, I want Tangled) considering it was made with modern hardware and software.
Actually I was wrong, it was made in 922p
>Toy Story was rendered at a mere 1,536 by 922 pixels, with each pixel corresponding to roughly a quarter inch of screen area on a typical cinema screen."
Black guy here. Animal folks were a fine stand-in. Tired of seeing black historical problems with humans. Shit hits too close to home. In fact, I would like to see a comic where animals folks were the low rung of society, like in S Andrew Swann's Moreau novels.
i don't see it as very generic. Mostly because I watch movies for entertainment, not to be a critical hardass about it you fucknut.
>S Andrew Swann's Moreau novels.
I have the Omnibus sitting right in front of me. Great series in regards to the Moreaus in a human society but
I'm not to keen on the whole ayyy lmao aliens parts
Dude, there has been porn on the day the first pieces of concept art were released.
dude i saw fanart made form the concept sketches!
It's an Italian sign of whatever the hell, they just kiss a lot. It's the little kisses that don't really connect, but it's okay if they do. How she knows to do it, being a country bunkin is beyond me. Maybe she saw it on TV.
Huh, so Japan gets a tanuki news anchor while America gets a moose..? That's pretty neat that there's slight regional differences with the movie.
The tanuki is cuter.
It was a sarcastic congratulations, anon.
I ain't no degenerate like you.
You've all stepped on quite a slope.
>Anon was literally conceived by a man capable of shooting sperm 10 meters.
I'm not even mad, that's impressive.
Either that or your dad masturbated on a bridge and your mother was able to catch it walking on her hands beneath.
A career in circus is calling, anon. Your extraordinary genes demand it.
It's almost like those famous scenes in the Godfather movies where the mob boss gives big kisses on the cheeks of various people that may be either a blessing or a threat depending on the context of the scene.
Jesus, you people are functionally illiterate.
i meant leather, either way.
i really dig the worldbuilding in this movie, it's not necessary but damn, it gives the world more life, what Frozen had? SNOW and more SNOW.
let's hope this movie will deliver.
she ask them to give her a wide hips
Playboy bunny Judy is the best.
We strode into the packed streets of Zootopia like men possessed, bristling with weaponry and ammo. The constant pandemonium of noise that usually filled the city eked away into eerie silence. Faces dropped, eyes widened and animals stared at the four of us as if we were the Horsemen of the Apocalypse themselves.
The man beside me spoke.
>"Remember, no furries."
There are two kinds of men: the ones who want to fuck Gazelle, and the ones who are lying.
Some multilingual anon in a prior thread was saying that this image is a play on a common Chinese phrase that basically means "good deeds are rewarded" except they changed one of the characters to a similar looking one, which changes the phrase to "good deeds earn hugs."
poor lil ms. Otterton, looking for her missing husband asking Judy for help because all other cops were too busy.
