chalkboard drawings objectively superior to Isaac's whiteboard drawings
>Life's hitting hard right now, but I'm proud I was at least able to get this page done. Thanks for reading!
Spender's shadow in the 7th panel is weird
it should be in front of Spender, but instead it's not
To the anon that wanted me to draw a lisa.
Probably not quite what you had in mind, but this is what lisa always reminds me of.
Paranatural's suppose to take place in which decade originally? The protags are around 12-13, right?
I wonder if I butchered the filename this time
>13 years ago
Here it fucking goes. Mysterious event from the past, merely referred to as "that day..." or "13 years ago..." by characters reflecting darkly from dramatic angles.
an in-character recap, which is very useful for understanding a character's actions and this one covers material we haven't seen before
also it's been a while, we're probably about to dive back into the heavy shit
That's only because readers keep getting older, but comic characters stay the same age.
...Which version of Superman is under 30? I think he was perpetually 31 or something pre-Crisis but who knows since then with sliding timescales.
Is it the movie version.
>paranatural is a tricky story b/c the plot is presented as a mystery where you're slowly gathering the components needed to understand it
>that means there's a lot of fun payoff when things come together down the line. now that i've learned a little more about writing,
>i'm trying to do a better job of balancing that with events and characters you can understand and have fun with in the present moment
>not that the comic was especially bad at that in the past. anyways, writing tip: make sure u know the narrative purpose of keeping a secret
>plot twists are great and fun, but sometimes (sometimes!) it's better to know characters' motivations, etc. up front.
>generally a good rule of thumb is to interrogate the writing & art techniques you're using and make sure you're deploying them with intent
So not just a painting, a novel cover?
> take place in which decade
Present Day, Present Time.
You can tell cuz of Suzy's bananaPad.
And of course it had to be that number 13.
> that chapter 1 hoodie
I gotta say, Zack sure does have the brains for designing eye-catching costumes.
he's in it, that's how he's "caging" the other demon
zacks just too lazy to draw him in it 99% of the time
3rd panel this comic actually shows the tongue in it and a wing slipping between the bars
Probably referring to the maelstrom which we have a hint about and is probably tied to Isaac
The cage almost seems to be an Escher type of structure. In panel 3 his wings are behind the bars but body in front, looking at him from the front. In panel 4, it's the same way but we're looking at him from the back. Also seen in the last panel.
I think it's more fun of an explanation than Zack being lazy anyway.
Lets do the math
Isaac is 12 or younger
The event happened 13 years ago.
If Isaac is 12, it might have happened when he was in utero
But if hes any younger, then it can't have anything to do with him. He wouldn't even be conceived yet.
That's just wrong. It's a perfect age. It's very close to Isaac being born. Plus we don't know Isaac's age he could be 13. Saying it can't be related at all is just stupid. I'm sure it had to do with Stormo and something killed him, maybe later and he got into Isaac. That's not taking into account circumstances that probably happened we don't know about.
>Plus we don't know Isaac's age he could be 13.
We don't even know how old these kids are...except Max, even then it was hinted.
But what if zack introduces
time travelinto the comic?
It seems pretty obvious to me that Lucifer-bird is inside the cage and it's just drawn this way so you can actually get a clear look at his pose and expression. Just look at the middle-left panel and tell me you'd be able to tell he has a deadpan expression with bars covering 60% of his face.
Even from an art perspective there's no way you're drawing half a cage bar, you'd draw the whole thing then put lucifer on a different layer over it so the image looks coherent.
Is it wrong that Lucifer is such a serious character with edgey tendencies but all I can do when I look at that bird is think how fucking cute it is
>Is it wrong that Lucifer is such a serious character with edgey tendencies but all I can do when I look at that bird is think how fucking cute it is
there is a lot of that going on
(...well I can't leave the other half alone.)
Well, I stand corrected. Thanks for that reminder, anon.
I have a feeling that Max is the one involved with the incident 13 years ago. His spirit is apparently infamous for whatever reason, so I assume that whatever happened all those years ago resulted in Scrap Dragon having to possess the recently (or perhaps yet-to-be) born Max.
I've thought of that too. Consider this: we never actually saw Max being possessed. He moved to may view with his senpai at the start of the story, so it obviously happened before he moved. Also, Johnny walked right through the barrier immediately after being possessed. It's possible that the barrier doesn't affect spectral and mediums until their abilities appear.
>He moved to may view with his senpai
It's not only possible that it only affects spectrals, it's confirmed to only affect spectrals. If you're just possessed it does nothing to you. This was even stated by Forge or Doorman or whoever in comic.
I think Max's broken god spirit is a different type of possession also, like Hijack. I feel like that's the reason Hijack even exists, to show us that there are other kinds.
But then how was Johnny able to pass through the barrier immediately after being possessed by Forge? The spirits who possess non-spectrals must somehow remain dormant within the person until they develop the abilities to communicate with spirits.
>But then how was Johnny able to pass through the barrier immediately after being possessed by Forge?
He wasn't a spectral. Being possessed WILL unlock your spectral powers, eventually. Then the communion between spirit and spectral can happen et cetera. Johnny was just possessed. Not a medium yet. He was a tool.
Yeah, basically. We don't know how long he was possessed or such but his spectral abilities emerged just like they are for Johnny right now.
It's almost guaranteed that Max is possessed considering the hints.
Paranatural chapter 0.
Except Hijack uses a unique spirit power to accomplish his hijacking.
A spirit that's broken and healing inside something can't actively use its power on its own, or can it? It wouldn't be too much of a 'prison' like the whalefrog said if they could.
And its power is already established as 'riddles and wordgames' anyway.
Yes he is. We even saw the spirit talking with Doorman in chapter 3 using Max Body.
And we know the big Snake from the bat doesn't talk, so must be another spirit.
Nigga, the blue-eyed Scrapdragon made a horned headdress and an apparently functional claw out of junk using its powers. The Whale Frog went grudge and couldn't shut up afterwards to stay focused on its fight.
The big Snake from the bat can WON'T talk, but it probably can.
>must be another spirit
The best evidence for this is the fact that Boss Leader all but stated there's another spirit hiding in Max's dreamroom. Scrapdragon may be human-level smart, but it's probably not the trickster.
He said doesn't talk technically. Who are you quoting?
But no, a defensive reflex forming horns in no way implies it's currently capable of higher intelligence than a dog. You don't know what amount of its efforts are instinctual reflexes and what require precision and conscious thought.
That could just be the natural way its cartoon-magnetic fields arrange themselves.
>c u c k is kek
I kinda don't like the fact that the usual term for Cuculus canorus, also an adjective + noun synonym for 'crazy', got affected too even though it has absolutely nothing to do with...THAT.
When will we ever need to talk about cuckoos instead of Isaac being NTR'd hard?
Well whaddayaknow, the word filter's gone!
...also, what's NTR?
Not all spirits can talk. Scrapdragon is probably more on the animalistic side of spirits. Forming metal weapons and defense is merely it's natural way of doing things in its hulked up state.
From what we know that's not possible. You can't split up a spirit like that and if it were it should have showed up in the room.
recently I used cuck. as part of a word but it still autocorrected me. I don't remember what it was but it wasn't the word that was meant to be filtered so it just came out looking silly.
That's what it was. It was a Zelda thread.
> be missing Team Lightningrod shenanigans
I hope they'll reconcile soon.
Lacking a mechanic for ghosts to turn into spirits being revealed in like chapter 15, it remains in the "Dumbledore is Future Ron" realm of plot twists.
There was a phase of speculation-talk, when wondering about Scraps' gender or how he would interact with Max, of if it might take on a warped surrogate motherly mentor role.
>all the people that would have the knowledge of the incident including Spender and Boss person don't even recognize the spirit and wave it off as something feral and random
> a dildo made out of spectral energy
> hand or fingers stretching/flexing to move phallus
> spectral powered sex toys in general
This could be possible...given it doesn't harm the diddly parts (scorching, infection etc) if the spectral stuff is handled properly.
Lucifer's design is kind of neat to me.
>The tail feather is also a tongue
>The talons are also teeth
>The wings are also a moustache
>The beak is also a nose
Also he seems to be within the cage, but his image tends to overlap it, as if it's on the topmost "layer". That's got to be a weird effect in-world to anyone looking at him. However, his wingmoustache doesn't seem to always follow this and will sometimes go behind and between the bars. Maybe they're, like textures, and they phase through the bar sometimes?
Or maybe Zack's just having problems with drawing him well/consistently, as his lightcord only seems to be visible at the back when looking from the front, but disappears when looking at the back.
I wonder by some mad Internet magic if PNAT gets adapted into animation
in which case I hope whoever responsible will enjoy the 6-packs of worms, how are they going to bring Spender's censored exchange to Isaac to life? Backwards speech? Some obscure to the US audiencelanguage?
...pic unrelated, I just wanna lighten up.
Zack do something good in your hack life
follow Hussie's, Gigi's and Siddell's footsteps and put some lesbian ships in your comic
Some people think about it but it's still dumb and makes no sense.
Ghosts can turn into spiritsby word of god but that has not been established yet and it still makes no sense.
