I thought the same thing as you suggested, however I couldn't think of a solid connection between Bismuth and either diamond or quartz. It seems too far a stretch to just have such an unconnected element playing a big part in such a theory. The closest connection I could find with admittedly sparse looking is the idea that Bismuth takes on a pink tinge when exposed to air.

If you consider the spoilers in the last two episodes of the bomb, you can see Garnet having her diving goggles and taking Peridot with her. Peridot will probably help her locate Malachite. When they hear what is in store for Earth regarding the cluster, they will also join the CGs

It's certainly possible. I mean, where would they stay in the temple? Each member of the CGs has their own room, sort of. Garnet technically has two since she's two gems. Peridot will probably be a series regular, but much in the way that Greg, Connie, or any member of Beach City are "regulars." Probably won't be in every episode, but when some issue crops up dealing with Homeworld or gem lore, they'll probably use Peridot in that episode.

I like how this show frames the central conflict. The atrocities committed have inertia on both sides, and even when the characters outright fight nobody's doing anything For Teh Evulz. They take time to make the world compelling and important to the plot. The characters really have to struggle to change the trajectory of the past.
