I got The Incal around christmas, I just finished it.

It was underwhelming. Maybe all those derivative works just bored me on the original, I don't know.

It's not even the most exciting example of Moebius' art.

Instocktrades sales ticking me off. Have 10 sales simultaneously and I can't even get the books I want from them because they remove them randomly unless I drop like 200+ dollars at once. Some front page deals aren't 50% off because they removed a dc sale and blanket changed the discount to the entire DC catalog I guess.

I got me myself some things during december
-bacchus vol 1

-deadly classtp 2 (gurl gave me 3)

all fucking worth it, especially overture MY god, Williams the third is number 1

Welp you already got some morrison there, ever tried the invisibles, you can get the ungodly big and totally "do you even lift " ominibus or the deluxe editions!
>>

Yeah. I'm trying to find Batwoman Elegy Deluxe, but it's OOP so it's super expensive. I found an ebay listing with it and 3 HC's of JHIII's New 52 Batwoman for $100. Thinking about doing it.
>>
>>78597469
Yeah i gave up and went with the tp for that, at least that i found on my store.
The OOP
It almost makes me feel like preordering everything, i'm almost fearful to wai for the Deluxe Private Eye until midt 2016 because things could get retarded.

Again it's a SECRET santa thread, that means you aren't suppose to know who gifted you which means you are no entitled to a thank you.
> the person i gifted to was a trip/namefag so good job freaking out like some nutter off his meds
So what If they're a tripfag it still doesn't change the fact, they don't have to give you a thank you if they don't want to.
I gifted several people (one of them being a name fag) and only got two thank yous, but you don't here me bitching about like a little whiny cunt.

Anybody got the goon library editions? I'm fairly new to comics. I'd like hellboy library issues but 50€ per piece is too much now.

Goon seems like a LOT to read and also a nice big issue. Is it worth it? I don't know shit about it.

It's really not too big a deal. The stories are mostly only related thematically, but even the ones that resolve plot are easily found by their unique artstyles.

And if you like Simonson that much, his FF was collected in a cheap ass trade, too. I'd rank that better than his Thor, honestly; 352 is one of the best single issues Marvel put out.

To provide some more informative perspective, the series takes a while to find its footing. Everything in the first LE feels like Remender wasn't sure what he wanted to do, poorly balancing melodrama with pulpy action. The second half redeems it, providing the type of character introspection/deconstruction he excels at, but it may be too little, too late for you.

Rage of Ultron is basically FA, albeit more concise and focused. Plus it stars Pym.

Lemire did a brilliant job on GA. I only wished he had stuck around. I guess DC left a bad taste in his mouth.

I haven't finished the first JSA omni. It's huge. But I am enjoying it. Can't wait to get to Vol. 3 for that Kingdom Come storyline. I always wanted to read that. Looked sick with Eaglesham's work.

He left because the artist left and he didn't want to continue their story with a new partner. Sorrentino was lured away by his dream of drawing X-Men

Yea, I think I saw you post that the last time I was here. Good looks, fellow Gerber fan.

Don't know if you read it, but that Legion of the Night series is another of Steve's forgotten 90s works. Not perfect, but still very enjoyable, and may be the weirdest thing he's ever written (which is certainly saying something). You have to deal with Portacio art, but Foolkiller wasn't exactly the prettiest book, either.

Dr. Mirage I am particularly interested in, but am holding out hope for a Valiant Deluxe edition of the first trade and the eventual second.

Prophet I also will hardcover-wait for. I hear more good than not.

That New X-Men book, though...

I have the first two JSA omnis. I am just waiting for them to go OP so I can unload them. The majority of threats the team faced came from within the team, or so it seemed to me, which was not to my taste.

>>78616892
I have the Thor omni and the Orion omni; they're both great.

Btw, for anyone looking for a good cape epic/crossover thing, I suggest the DC One Million or Infinity Gauntlet omnis. Both have a couple boring issues in them, but are 90% gold.
>>

Ah. Good. Because I'd like to hope Lemire would go back to DC with Sorrentino and do some sort of DKR-style book for GA.

I tried Scalped when it first came out. I know I am missing something great, but I can't get into it like everyone else. Just like I can't get into Game of Thrones, Mad Men, and Breaking Bad. I know they're good. Something turns me off about them.

I'm hc waiting Deadly Class, Saga, Black Science (one of few i support in floppy), and everything Valiant i hc wait. I literally just found out about the new Doctor Mirage so yeah they probably eill hc it but you know it'll be 2 years or something craxy.

Yeah some of the classic cosmic trades are weird and deceptively named. Like Avengers vs Thanos collects Jim Starlin's run on Captain Marvel, except the last issue and the Death of Captain Marvel graphic novel. Well to be honest i think all those stories have some of the same things in common and that's that they are really really character driven.

They are epic as all hell but it does take some patience. Action and big moments are inbetween the characters being built but i think that what truly makes them shine.
You end up really caring when things happen to the characters you've come to know
>>
>>78618553
For the Avengers/Thanos thing, Starlin's main story ended in issue 33, but 34 (his last issue) is just a one off with Nitro, which he turns into the premise behind DoCM years later. You're right that they could be named better, but there is a bit of logic to their arrangement.

Scarlet just had a great sense of character in that its a Spider that's willing to go the extra mile and stop really bad shit i mean he lobotomized Carnage man.

He is a great anti hero with a developing cast and i think it's a good study of what makes a "heto"

Also a rage hulk mode which is nice back up we will never get to more of as his gone.

I said the last time that it would take a miracle to get all of those Corto books collected/re-released. The demand for these types of books just isn't high enough, unfortunately.

They're pure, unadulterated Kirby--so both the good and the bad that comes with that. They also tend to get overpraised (especially on /co/) for innovating things that had already existed well before they came out.

If you can handle classic comics, you'll be fine. Just remember it's just a unique, singular experiment and not some bible of comic making.

>>
>>78619395
>Is it campy tech dialogue or what is it ppl complain about.
A lot of modern comics fans aren't able to handle dialogue that doesn't sound "realistic," in the sense that the characters speaking don't do so in a way that a typical, real life person would.

The merits of these older cosmic comics (see a lot of Marvel's less superhero-y output at that time, too) is that they were exploring concepts and themes which were more complex and heady than what you'd find in your average superhero book. If you're just looking for a story that "moves" you or whatever, the dialogue, if you're anything like those aforementioned fans, will probably stop make that harder.

Got a bunch of udon art books from IST along with the Hellboy 100 and Sakai Project. SO many fucking packing peanuts. I actually like my smaller orders from them because they have those nice packing pillow things where you know shit will just not move during shipping.

That's what I don't get. Everyone is constantly jerking it to how good Saga is, but I find it extremely boring. The writings bland, the art is boring, i think normal fags just think they like acting like they're quirky nerds for reading an "indie" comic. Fioana Staples should really just stick to being a colorist and Vaughn should just off himself.

DOOM PATROL BOOK ONE TP
Written by GRANT MORRISON
Art by RICHARD CASE, JOHN NYBERG and others
Cover by BRIAN BOLLAND
On sale FEBRUARY 17 • 424 pg, FC, $29.99 US • MATURE READERS
In these tales from DOOM PATROL #19-34, the world’s strangest heroes have left behind almost every vestige of normality. Shunned as freaks and outcasts, the Doom Patrol faces mystifying threats that must be defeated—at any cost. These are the epics that introduced Rebis, Crazy Jane, Dorothy Spinner, the Brotherhood of Dada and more!

>>78634942
I really like Idees Noir, Fantagraphics printed a lot of them in one of their early nineties anthologies. But it's all one-page comics, not a continued story whereas the Valerian and Lauraline book is. Both are brilliant cartoonists, though.

Mine:
Legion Lost
Uncanny X-Men by Gillen (5 books)
X-23 by Liu books 1-2
JSA omni 1 (started; a quarter of the way through)
Deadly Class HC
Annihilation Conquest omni
Teen Titans by Wolfman/Perez omni 2
Uncanny X-Men by Claremont/Lee omni 1
Entire Sandman series in softcovers volumes

To name a few. What should I read first?

Don't get me started on books I've read as monthlies but now own HCs or softcovers of that I want to re-read.

Wow that's good stuff Anon...I fucking love Kirby's DC stuff, even moreso than his iconic Marvel creations...I know that's probably heresy to some but the whole Fourth World universe just speaks to me on a deeper level...it's ALMOST kind of like some Outsider Art in some ways..but that's just being all academic about it. I just really dig those characters more than almost all of his Marvel stuff ( the exceptions are his early Thor and Hulk comics) with Stan Lee. Mister Miracle, Orion...fucking brilliant comics--and Kirby was paired with his best inker, Mike Royer, for most of them.

You're in luck then. All are avaliable now. The Fantagraphics collection is kinda pricy - 75$ for a total of 1160 pages in soft cover (nice shiny paper, though) - but Dark Horse ones are mere 25$ for 520+ pages (3 regular tomes) each. And they even have all the covers in color and all. It's a steal. But good luck finding hardcovers, those bastards are much harder to find and much more expensive (and signed by Sakai). I could have gotten two, but they would look weird next to the regular ones and I'd have to sell my kidney to get them so I passed.

So yeah, I got hooked on Usagi. What a fantastic read, I can't believe I was ignoring it for so long. I can't wait for the next Saga tome to come out (April).

Thank you; I got it when Amazon had it on sale.

>>78636665
Yeah, I need to get more shelves.
>>
>>78673945
That seems to be a pretty common viewpoint. I don't think anything really matches up to Human Diastrophism but I still think Beto's a master. I love the way a lot of that later Luba stuff reads where it's more like you're getting pieces of these lives and little stories about them and their relationships. But I see why it's viewed as lesser.

Really modern Beto shines with the weird stuff he does. I love those Fritz genre b-movie books and Blubber is easily one of my favorite comics of 2015.

It would be nice to see a built-in book mark like a ribbon. Why hasn't DC or Marvel included this on their omnibi. If they have, there isn't any ribbon in the omnis I own.

I remember Moore's original ABC HCs of Tom Strong Vol. 1 and Promethea Vol. 1 had ribbons.

DC puts them in their Absolutes, but they really need to add them to their regular omnibi too, it's so useful. Dark Horse does it.

Kamandiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is that a softcover edition of Jack Kirby's Fourth World among all of those hardcovers???!?!?!!

Batman is who got me into comics back in the early 90s (and X-Men). Ironcially, my Batman collection is minimal at best. I have Black Mirror, softcovers of Bruce Wayne Murderer, DKR, Year One, and Knightfall Vol 3.

What other Batman books and which particular editions, in and/or out of print, should I try to get? I want to get hardcovers mainly, but softcovers are fine. I'm interested in picking up the No Man's Land softcovers even though I read it when it came out monthly. And I'd like to get HCs of DKR and Year One.

What do you all think?
>>
>>78711153

>Ghostbusters: Total Containment

>Jonah Hex: Tall Tales

I've only read The Shade so far (Thanks again, anon. I loved it), but I plan to continue reading once I finish up some Star Wars: TFA books I got now that I've finally seen the movie.

The only new thing I've picked up since is a helmet-less Poe Dameron POP! since he's my favorite character from the new movie.

For Flash, your best bets are Waid and Johns' runs on Wally. Johns in particular should be easy to find.

Green Lantern's most accessible is also Johns' run, which starts with Green Lantern Rebirth. From there until the New 52 happens, there's also a sister title in Green Lantern Corps, the first volume is called Recharge. All of that is great.

Captain Marvel/Shazam is most easily accessed through Shazam and the Monster Society of Evil, Superman/Shazam: First Thunder, and the New 52 Shazam (currently just one volume).

I also heartily recommend reading 52. It was a weekly series covering the year after Infinite Crisis, a year without Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. It stars a handful of B- and C-List heroes and is fantastic from start to finish.
>>
>>78716971
Norm Breyfogle is a great artist, also that period of late 80's early 90's bats is fun, you had Alan Grant and Matt Wagner writing. Ventriloquist comes from those comics

>>
>>78682586
My ordering is very precise but completely arbitrary and basically understandable only to me and my current aesthetic mood

But in essence, everything starts divided by publisher, then that is further subdivided into either franchise (batbooks, Mignolaverse), author (especially image books), or similar spines (New52, marvel now). In between different sets of those, I use bridging books that have something in common like author or genre.

I just bought it yesterday and I'm expecting it to be delivered on monday.

What am I up for?

Also from animal man/Wonderwoman which one would you recommend? And what is Solo I see it a lot. (new to comics)
>>
>>78613318
Seriously, niqqa? Take that Superman: Earth One shit off yo' shelf.
>>
>>78731627
>Solo
DC anthology series. Lots of big name artists given ~40 pages a piece to do what they want with DC characters.

>Ronin
Probably my favorite Frank Miller work. You can tell he's young and firing on all creative cylinders. It's an incredible synthesis of 70's/80's european sci-fi (Moebius) and manga/anime. He's really never done anything else like it. It's cool.

>Animal Man or WW
Animal Man is better written. Furthermore, it's a great follow-up to Crisis on Infinite Earths since it's arguably the beginning of Morrison's Hypercrisis/DC continuity mission statement....thing. It also directly references COIE, which had just wrapped up about a year earlier.

Wonder Woman has better art. That's not to say Animal Man has bad art, but Perez's hyper-crisp, detailed style meshes VERY well with the Classical Greek Epic trappings of the story. It also follows directly after COIE in that this is WW's new post-Crisis reboot/origin, like Year One or Man of Steel.

Get WW if you're a Perez junkie or if you're particularly interested in that era of Wonder Woman/DC continuity and you already have COIE.

Get Animal Man otherwise.
