I asked Rebecca Sugar if she ever got flak from the boys upstairs about anything in Steven Universe, and she said they never red flagged anything she's done. In fact they've been highly supportive of her and her themes, she said.
With that being said the fact that CN censors Quintell left and right is just downright humorous. Don't get me wrong, I love both SU and RS, but I just can't help but think it a double standard. Why is it that SU can have its grim and dark or very sexual moments and yet RS can't even have skeletons or soda parties? I realize I'm comparing apples to oranges here, but they are still both pretty big sized fruit.

While Regular Show is a show with talking animals and talking objects it seems more mundane at the same time, so if a kid watches it it's easier to relate it to things they know.

Steven Universe also takes place in present time but it seems more magical and filled with fantasy so it's harder to relate things with what kids are used to, for example that sword thing.

I think censors underestimate kids though, sometimes they feel like they will not notice some obvious stuff or overract over things that fly over kids heads.

I also don't see how regular show would be improved with less censoring though, changing a couple of words or not showing skeletons really don't affect much the story of the episodes in my opinion.

Steven Universe is tamer than Avatar, and Nick is and was stricter than CN. Meanwhile Regular Show can get pretty raunchy plus people die, like, all the time and it's generally played for laughs.

Regular Show is CN's only property right now that appears to heavily meddled with.

It might be that they do that on a "per complaint basis". Maybe RS has gotten so many complaints from soccer moms or sponsors that they are keeping a watchful eye on them.

I mean, compared to what was planned for the third segment of last year's Halloween special what we got was really, really tame.
