cliff hangers are fine. What's weird is that the episodes dont seem to have a three act structure. The episodes seem to end at the end of act 2 with the exception of maybe Giant Woman. There is no satisfying story meal, things "just happen."

Ive seen all of them save for, onion trade, island adv, and watermelon steven.

The past two episodes have been the most guilty of what I'm talking about:

Both of these episodes, while interesting; felt incomplete. There was no action climax. No crowning moment of personal growth. Things happen, but feel meaningless or unmotivated. It's just weird.

And I'm gonna agree with you here, the logic of structure would suggest that you end the episode after the discovery is made, but it didn't. But I guess we had to find out what Steven saw.

So the gems we thought were corrupted are likely just babies, yeah? They're "born" at full power but lack higher cognitive functions, and the primitive brain protects itself by assuming an equally primitive form. The end result is that for the first few hundred years of their life cycles gems are all gigantic nightmarish beasts that viciously attack anything that moves. Ergo, to protect gem population centers gem offspring are all spawned on backwater garden worlds (like Earth) watched over by nursemaids (like Rose) where the violent baby gems that ruthlessly beat the shit out of each other until they mature enough to stop being angry little shits, assume a humanoid form, and join the Gempire as a productive citizen.

Then humans evolved on earth, and Rose saw beauty in them, so she started to contain the babby gems when the two species clashed. Blah blah blah, whatever.

Amethyst is only a few hundred years removed from her larval stage, so she can still change her shape at will. Garnet is of middling age, and so does it very rarely -the most we've ever seen her do is a Steven form and lots of stretchy-arm. Pearl is the eldest, and either can't shapeshift (beyond wardrobe changes) or finds shapeshifting very difficult.

I think until said otherwise, its best to just presume all gems are the same age and are essentially lifeless to the degree that relative age, if they are aged differently, is pointless to consider. I think its an interesting thoery about age making them lose "elasticity" and not be able to shapeshift, but personally i just think its down to their personality and how each gem sees fit to use their powers.
