Aztec ruins really only existed in one place and that's Tenochtitlan which was razed to the ground and built over with the creation of Mexico City. Other cities in the Aztec "Empire" belonged to other tribes who were cultural relatives of the Aztecs. Recent excavations (since the construction of the Mexico City Subway system) show signs of some sacrifices but hardly anything that would be construed as daily.

Just as a side note. Matador means "killing, murdering" and is applied to something ("calor matador", "killing heat"), it can also mean "slayer".

But in that way it sounds really weird in most of Spain unless it is accompannied by the thing it slays, such as "matador de trolls", "troll-slayer".

It is mostly used as a synonym of bullfighter, but it's more common to hear "torero" instead ("toreador" also sounds weird in most of Spain).

This is one of those instances where fuckloads of raping actually was common and yet it isn't portrayed.

It's ironic that the Spanish Inquisition was the root of the political police, using the same tactics for example the Gestapo would use to find and break their targets, but instead is remembered by myths.

The Holy Inquisition, which only answered to the politicad heads, not the religious ones, was the only body capable of acting in all the Catholic Kingdoms, because back them the Iberic Peninsula still was a bunch of separated kingdoms joined under a single crown, but still each wanted to be politically independent from the others. There were cases of important nobles who fled one kingdom to the other to escape justice, only for the inquisition to hunt them down.

The inquisition's objective was to ensure the political homogenity on the kingdoms, and the times they hunted witches or burned people are so few that they are famous events in their history.

I think around Germany the Inquisition was a bunch of psychopatic zealots, but not everywhere.

While historical fantasy fiction acting as a jumping-off point for a discussion of real history is all well and good, some of you guys are taking it way too seriously as a criticism of the actual work. Inaccuracies in a comic that doesn't bill itself as being fact-based are no sin; it's more a conquistador-flavored work of fantasy than actual historical fiction. You know, like how A Song of Ice and Fire has some War of the Roses setup going on, but that's just where it starts from.

That being said, there are plenty of things to roll your eyes at here. A baby-pasting machine, seriously? I mean I know it's just something that made the creator giggle, but it's hard to take the drama seriously when stuff like that's going on. Reminds me of early The Boys.
