Because in one-shot guest appearances, he usually is treated as an adversary that needs to be overcome. Ostrander's run is much more character-focused, where the mantle of the Spectre is more of a test that Corrigan struggles with. Highly recommended.

Yeah, I'm a bit worried about it because Fawkes had a habit of making magic boring in this series, but his work with Corrigan in Eternal has been pretty neat,and I love the concept and art credits behind the proposed book so I'm going to give it a shot anyways.

Dude. It didn't stopped with the 0 issue. Nick Necro became the focus of the major arc that took place in JLD before Dematteis came in and he showed up again as one of the baddies during Blight. He's now one of the major enemies John has.

A more valid comparison than a miniseries like Red Son would be if the New 52 made Superman into a totalitarian fascist, with the intention of that being the status quo for him for the foreseeable future.
That would destroy a lot of the character's appeal for no good reason, and if it turns out that it makes the stories about him less interesting, then it's a change for the worse.
