I can relate to all the social anxiety in her comics it hurts and I think I really have to do something about it. I just literally spent 45 minutes compsing a two sentence e-mail to a professor and rereading it 30 times before clicking send. Same goes with text messages to cool people that make me nervous with their coolness. Also this post was close to being deleted since nobody gives a fuck.
>>64606224 >>64606196 Trust me, girls who draw themselves as weird ugly freaks instead of cutesy moeblobs are way too humble to engage in that kind of shit. Compare the chick who does Awkward Zombie to the one who does Kate or Die.
>>64607701 >ARE WE LIVING IN AN AGE OF NARCISSISM When you're flooded with information 24/7 it's impossible to sort it all properly, the only possible coping strategy is to retreat into narcissism because otherwise you'd always be pulled between the 20 million crises going on in any one day
You gotta admit, though, he does have a point. Most of these tumblr original comics have a lot of introspection - even more so than some comics that present heavy monologues. There seems to be a trend that criticizes/praises individuals in their social environment or lack of one.
It's almost unique to find something in this new wave that actually shows, say, a dude broing it out with his friends and having a good time or a girl interacting with her whacko jerk/goodish buddies as a central element to the comic.
>>64607997 >a dude broing it out with his friends and having a good time or a girl interacting with her whacko jerk/goodish buddies as a central element to the comic. That's because people who are extroverted in that capacity are not indoors making web comics. They're actually out doing things and getting laid.
>>64606121 To avoid this, I set a timer to 5 or 10 minutes when I start writing a post/email/etc. When the timer runs out, I either hit "post" or abort. I still don't post half the stuff I write, but at least I don't waste so much time on it anymore.
>>64608202 >I wouldn't be here if I wanted people to notice me. That's a lie. If you never wanted people to notice you, you would never post at all. You want to be heard, but you don't want your identity to be known in case you say something you can't take back. That's the difference.
>>64608256 Anonymity is more than just freedom from consequences. It's exchange of ideas in a space free from social norms. There's a reason so much funny shit is made here, it's because there's no spoil sports to get all pissy when someone writes the word "nigger."
>>64608302 >It's exchange of ideas in a space free from social norms. That's the same thing as freedom from consequences. Posting furry shit means that you won't be personally facing the stigma of jerking it to a wolf with 13 dicks and giant breasts.
>>64608451 >Anonymity is a good thing. I never said it was bad. I agree with you. I'm saying you're a liar when you say you don't want to be noticed. Because you do, but you like wearing the mask of anonymity, as do we all
>>64608498 Well, everyone likes being talked to, sure. But... well, shit, let me explain it this way.
Hajime Kanzaka was a mild mannered salaryman. He was soft spoken, a decent white collar worker, but you wouldn't be able to pick him out of a crowd.
Like most white collared workers, he had hobbies. On the few occasions he wasn't working or filing some report he would play Dungeons and Dragons with his friend, Rui Arazumi. Kanzaka would write the campaigns, and Rui would draw the characters out on paper - he wasn't very good, but he liked doing it. Rui's wife acted as the DM - mostly because Kanzaka and Rui liked playing the game and solving the various conflicts in wacky unorthodox ways.
They started with a generic enough concept. A setting where a chosen dragon hero fought against the forces of evil. As a goof, they had the chosen dragon hero's younger sister(A DMPC) be a money grubbing sociopath. It's a standard joke most tabletop gamers would make - to liven up the session with some humor.
But then something interesting happened. Kanzaka decided to change the campaign around and play as the younger sister, and make the dragon hero the DMPC. Suddenly, the entire premise of the sessions changed. It wasn't a generic quest to stop the evil demon overlord, it was a quest to get as much gold as possible all while WORKING AROUND the evil demon overlord.
The sessions were so fun, that Kanzaka wrote up a short story and sent it to a publisher. That short story became Slayers, and that DMPC became Lina Inverse, Sorceress Supreme and one of the best anti-heroes in all of fiction.
My point to all that is this: If a Japanese Salaryman with long work hours can still find the time to be creative and fun, if LINA FUCKING INVERSE can come from the mind of a man who spent all his hours filing papers, then what excuse do we got?
We, who have more time than ever, more means to reach an audience, is the best we can do truly "Gee talking to people is hard sometimes guys?"
I don't know. Have a story set about a female rookie cop in a precinct, fresh from academy learning the rope of a hilariously corrupt but not quite evil coppers who end up doing the right thing the wrong way?
What about a panel gag series of a graduate from the Great Amadeus School of Liches and Necromancers finally entering the playing field and finding out it's not as bombastic as it's all cracked up to be, with demon negotiations having terms after terms of insanity and stupidity while he tries to keep his sights on the domination of the kingdom?
Or even a comic of Death's Personification and a random ghost of a 1960s hippy protester and a 1980s former womanizing rookie footballer watching Death's Personification reap souls and give commentary, sometimes nonsensical, sometimes philosophical, always complicated?
>>64607846 I used to go to brony meetups. I adore the show, but know very little about the fandom and it could be kind of awkward there. I also feel shitty afterwards because everyone, even most bronies, looks down upon the meetups.
That's still good advice you're giving, I'm just saying there are exceptions.
>>64606864 Same here. I just bought her zine earlier this week, too. Doesn't seem she really talks about that stuff at all during interviews. Her regular art is beautiful, too. I would be so disappointed if she joined the dyed red hair and cat eye glasses side.
>>64608451 I keep getting run out of every forum I join because I'm a faggot. That doesn't happen here. It'd be nice if I could be part of a community with the freedom of /co/ but with more of a possibility of connecting with people.
>>64609300 >Associated with some people is worse than associating with none.
How, exactly? I don't think I was doing any harm by being there, and I had fun when they were talking about things I could actually relate to. Like school, the show, politics.. everything except the fandom. I found out from the meet ups that there's such a thing as brony rap.
>>64609358 He doesn't think people should use slurs or make rape jokes, and he has no problem with "calling out" anyone he sees do so on, say, Twitter. He also considers Tumblr to be the best place for mature discussion about political issues and strongly dislikes 4chan.
>>64607023 Liberals are actually pretty doom and gloom in a way that's less common in conservatives until you get to the fringe.
That said, you've got to give a fuck to be cruel. A more accurate description of the world would be dispassionate or unconcerned. Knowing the difference can be liberating, especially for people concerned about what others think about them. You can live the life you want if no one cares enough to stop you.
>>64609454 >>He doesn't think people should use slurs or make rape jokes, and he has no problem with "calling out" anyone he sees do so on, say, Twitter. He also considers Tumblr to be the best place for mature discussion about political issues and strongly dislikes 4chan.
Ah, so he went the way of most goons. Did SomethingAwful become so pussified in response to us being so racist or something?
>>64608302 >Anonymity is more than just freedom from consequences. It's exchange of ideas in a space free from social norms. There's a reason so much funny shit is made here, it's because there's no spoil sports to get all pissy when someone writes the word "nigger."
That's the same thing. If we had accounts, people would know who's going "nigger, nigger, nigger, nigger" all the time and shun them appropriately.
It's not even funny. "Negro" is much funnier anyways.
>>64609603 I think it's just what content creators have to do to be relevant. Willis, Hiimdaisy, and Neil, I think this is just market forces at work, making them adopt a persona best suited to get the shekels.
>>64609888 Eh. In this case context matters. We need unexpected juxtapositions. Like just coming up with new slurs isn't enough, we need more shit like racist cute old people or the weird prettification a slur gets by being made feminine.
For it to be funny as a joke, we need more people at the intersection of intelligent and transgressive. If it was enough to be just one, we'd be happier with what we've got.
>>64607997 I agree with you, if I had artistic talent I would want to tell a story with my art, not talk about my own shitty life that no one cares about. If I tried making comics like these I'd probably hang myself after the first 10.
If you're going to talk about your life at least do it through a self insert character that has something interesting going on, like a superhero character who fights monsters and shit in between whining.
I was part of the first wave, too. This is the only real fandom I've ever been a part of, but I've long since lost ability to keep tabs on it. Man, remember all the Dover Boys references we used to make?
You are one of the first, first wave individuals I have met that has not become disillusioned with everything and left. I remember when you could go down the Toys R Us aisle and the section was small. Now, it takes up the whole side of the aisle.
I also remember talking the episodes as they were airing. Threads being made to talk about them.
>tfw can't even be around anyone for more than 5 minutes without feeling physically ill I don't know why, but humans make me sick. I don't have a problem with humans. I'm still in contact with a few of my old friends but I don't see them in person and I only ever talk to them over the phone or internet.
>>64608812 Not him but I see where you're coming from. Comics like the one in the OP are probably fun for venting but if you have the time and the talent why not create something new? These comics get a laugh and a "iktf" and so they have their place but there's little else beyond that. If you take these personal experiences and write them into a character then you got a character that people can relate to and root for. Then set them off on an adventure or something
>oh man, I don't like these comics about introspection because they make me feel awful >I know, I'll quickly hamfist a TUMBLR association on them, so I can ezbutton the thread into hating them too, so they'll all be my personal echobox and make me feel better about myself
>haha hey i'm so quirky lol look at me i have no social life JUST LIKE YOU GUYS!!! >omg i ttly relate to this comic haha and theyre so random and bacon im gonna post it on 9gag and facebook and tell everyone working at CeX with me about it!!! and people wonder why shit like the big bang theory and other "nerd" stuff (like the show awkward on mtv, fucking mtv) gets made
this isn't funny, this isn't thought provoking, it's just a girl trying to act kooky and anxious to get attention and money and people will fall for it over and over
>>64610787 A lot of webcomic creators make a long ongoing story, then a short slice of life mini comic thing for shit they don't want to put into their main comic. I think the girl in OP was making these little comics with a fountain pen and ink while she was in college just as a stress reliever.
>>64608302 >Anonymity is more than just freedom from consequences. It's exchange of ideas in a space free from social norms. Yeah except that's a steaming load of horse shit. There's "social norms" here just like every other place.
LMAO, see, if I type like this xDD I get banned. ^_^;;
Maybe an extreme example, but there's nothing special and liberating about 4chan. It's just another clique venting its own frustrations by ostracizing anyone that doesn't think along the same tiny selection of allowed thought patterns. You think it's better because your peg manages to fit better in this hole than others.
>>64610821 Eh, three out of four times sex isn't even good. Even when it is good it's not as good as the build up and foreplay that lead to it. I'll never understand why someone would want sex outside of a relationship, it's not worth the effort.
>>64610014 You know that the company that made those had to give a full refund to anyone who bought them because they were actually bad for your feet and in no way did any of the beneficial things they claimed they did, right?
>>64611168 Has nothing to do with Valentine's Day. She ended it because it became a long distance relationship where we couldn't even talk because she had no working phone or internet. By February at the latest we'll see each other again.
Somewhat related, but what's your opinion on the corruption to the term introvert? It used to mean a people who keeps their thoughts to themselves, more overanalytical and very selective with what he lets others know about him, the opposite of extrovert. Now people just use it as an insult for socially defective or mentally challenged betas.
>>64605919 >on a video game or something online >against my better judgement i start to talk with somebody else >they're cool and we stay on for hours >add each other, say goodnight later and maybe make plans to play together again or something >wait for them to log out >block/remove/delete them and never speak again every time
You know why I like the anonymity on here? Because the last place I posted on that had accounts I'd have my post completely ignored, or worse: opposed, simply because everyone knew that I was A.) younger than the rest(not around 30), and B.) not American. Either they knew better because they were older and so ignored the researched responses I put forward in favour of their own personal experience, or I wasn't allowed a say because I wasn't American and so I couldn't possibly know anything about a topic like separation of church and state and its importance, or why young earth creationism doesn't have a valid place next to evolution.
One guy, a 29-year-old man, thought I hated him and would oppose him at every turn because I had been on the opposite side in another discussion, and other people actually acted like that. That shit is just fucking crazy, and I love the fact that it can't happen on here in the same way.
>>64612251 I've always had it really easy to get over saying stupid shit by acknowledging it, so I've always had more problems with shit like "this guy argued with me last week, so I'll act really fucking angry at him in this unrelated argument!". People incapable of moving on.
>>64607337 i have a friend and we have a secret pact if one of us ends up in the street he can show up in the others door no questions asked. We had this agreement since we were 16 and it still stands today. Thats all i need really
>>64605919 But if none of the others EVER contact you first, that would have to mean a) you were right to assume they didn't really want to see you again b) they're all in the same boat and literally everyone is alone all the time Observation easily disproves b), which leaves only a).
>my friend invites their online friend down for a week >never met him >he keeps saying things like "rekt" and "troll" and "constanza dot jay peg" >don't react, just try to play it off like i don't think he's a massive tool I hate you people.
>>64611746 >say you like game >other people want to play game with you >tell them you'd like to play game with them too >realize that i will be required to play and chat with them for hours >they ask when you want to play >never play and hide in invisible mode, hoping they wont know i'm sorry
>>64611916 >>64612021 I post on a forum with accounts and post counts and that shit happens all the time. Its pretty stupid but at the same time itdoes make for some funny exchanges when two possters are so familiar with one another they already know the opinion of the other on a certain topic and just go right at it.
I find it too hard to make friends with people. They just don't get me. They don't get what I stand for. They don't get my sense of humor. They don't get me, man. I've got a group of people I hang out with. We get along well, but they don't get me much. I feel like I have to put up a facade and pretend to be someone else around them. I had a funny thought the other day when hanging out with them. I shared it with them. They called me sick and twisted. Maybe they didn't understand the juxtaposition in the scenario.
>>64613436 Family of clowns. Full clown attire for all. Mom, dad, daughter. All Pagliacci clown types. They're in India. Surrounded by regular Indians. Just dressed how they normally do. Normal Indians, and then these clowns. Clown mom and clown dad are recording family videos of clown daughter at park. Precious memories. Clown daughter is all, "Look at me, mommy!" Clown daughter explodes into confetti. Indians are killed. Mom and dad are killed. Everyone is killed.
>>64613615 They don't get me. They get me more than other people get me, but they just don't get me. They think HIMYM is hilarious and frequently quote Barney Stinson. They don't get me. I need to pretend to like that shit around them. They don't get me, man.
One of my accomplishments this year was when I actually managed to start playing ARAM games with my friend's group of friends without feeling like total shit. It was about what I could handle, because of how relatively unserious it is and how much faster the game can be. But then my friend asks if I want to play a proper game, or even worse: if I want to play against bots and try out new guys. Each fucking time we play on opposite teams in a bot-game he checks what character I'm trying out, and then he counter-picks it because he's competitive and actually keeps track of that kind of stuff while I just go with characters that seem to have a fun/good skill-set or whatever.
Funny thing is that I've actually had a LoL-account longer than any of them. I just couldn't ever play it because of the commitment a game takes.
And whenever I ask my friend if he wants to play a game that isn't LoL he's "not in the mood" for that type of game.
>>64611916 >posted on MtG forum >be a high level player of a fringe deck >make only effortposts (two dozen or so in a year) >write a guide to a particular strategy >mfw it's copied and featured in guides feels great man
I like aspects of her illustration style, I detest how syndicated-newspaper-banal every single one of her observations is and that god damned straight man rabbit who has no personality except to parrot "why aren't you doing the right thing / that's not how that works."
When the highest goal you have is relatability, you're going to make this kind of crap.
Ronnie Filyaw does this schtick a lot better because he recognizes that you ought to put effort into an autobiographical "relate to me any my problems" strip.
>>64610473 Women that want to be "just friends" have no interest in actually being friends. They just want you to give them all the attention they crave without putting in any effort of their own. If they actually set you up with another girl, something a real friend might do, then they would lose your attention as you'd spend most of your time with the other girl.
>>64615072 I know they don't. That's why they want to be "just friends." And I'd be fine with that if they actually DID want to be friends. But they don't. It's a ruse to get attention. The "friendship" is entirely one-sided, all about her with zero reciprocation (by reciprocation I do not mean sex).
>>64612697 >browse 4chan in college >couple friends browse every once in a while >they still spout memes and speak in greentext when we go out drinking They don't even come here anymore. They're all Redditors.
>>64614892 >>64615072 Then you're ugly. Everyone wants their partner to be their best friend. If you really are friends then there would be nothing unappealing about also adding some boning to the mix, unless of course you're ugly as shit and the idea of touching you is simply repulsive on a basic level. But they should have the decency to say that and just be honest with you. It's either that or they never really considered you to be a real friend in the first place.
>>64615258 >Then you're ugly. I'm really not. Not fat either. I am short though. But as I said, what bothers me isn't the rejection, just the dishonesty about wanting to be "just friends." It's complete bullshit. I just say "no thanks" now and move on so I don't have to deal with that shit. I have enough friends.
>Everyone wants their partner to be their best friend. This isn't true in my experience. I don't want to have sex with my best friend. Do you want to have sex with yours? The "my gf/bf is my best friend!" line is something people say in relationships because they think it sounds cute. It's generally not true. Most people look for different things in a relationship than they do for a close friend, unless you're gay I suppose.
>>64615355 Yeah, exactly. At least it's honest and doesn't leave the other person finding the holes in your story and wondering why their supposed friend would give them such a shitty excuse. Some people are ugly. If I'm ugly, I'd prefer people tell me than give me some other bullshit excuse.
I'm pretty sure I'm introverted, but I'm glad I'm not the type that prefers not to socialize with anyone else. Well, sorta I guess.
The only people I really enjoy spending time with are my immediate family and my group of close friends. I don't mind going out in public or to crowded places, but I also don't mind just sitting at home and doing nothing.
>>64615755 My brother thinks I am incredibly callous and don't care about people but most of the time he is secretly rightNothing like adult babysitting to make you hate people
No we do not have a shuttle. There is a taxi service that we recommend and I can give you their number. You cant call because you say you overslept and just now woke up so you're asking me to call the taxi, fine I will do that for you. I don't know where the guest is Mr. taxi driver he said he was in a hurry oh there he is hey guest can I get you to sign this receipt oh jesus nigger did you smoke an entire ziplock freezer bag of weed I could smell you from the door across the room and that shit is just hanging in the air have a nice day
>>64616176 its especially bad when they ask if there is anything you can do about a ridiculous bullshit unnecessary thing like a wider parking spot when the lot is almost full because fucking Bruno Mars was in town this weekend and that bitch gets upset with you for saying there is nothing you can do about the parking like you were supposed to accommodate her weird fear of her car getting a minor ding in it because it was "so expensive" but its just a generic ass little white car
>>64616196 I mainly visit /mu/ other that /co/, and whenever a guitar general starts up, there's a guy we've come to know as "gearspammer" who posts the hundreds of pedals he has with no explanation and only a youtube video of himself using them.
It's really obnoxious, and he's called other "jelly" of how much money he has.
>I'm thinking people dislike 'normies' not for activities, but rather for the select few that stand out as having absolutely no internal monologue or mental control over their actions.
This too. Another big thing I couldn't stand about the normies or "prep" kids when I was in school is just how boring they are. Listening to all they wanted to do after school during awards ceremonies just disgusted me.
>I want to be a nurse. >I want to go to school for accounting. >I want to be a dental assistant.
Jesus, just aim a little higher you know? Not that there's anything wrong with doing any of those things if they make you happy, but I know that most of them picked stuff like that to do the rest of their lives because they based it on how easily they could get hired.
>>64616316 I'll do you one better >Friends are getting together >One person offers to drive everyone who wants a lift even though nobody asked >She realizes she can't fit everyone in her car >She starts to loudly make excuses and won't shut up about how she can't do the thing nobody asked her to do and nobody cares that she won't be able to do anyway.
>>64608326 Hard not to be. Few years ago I realized I was a narcissist. Not in the sense I love myself but I hate myself but it's always all about me. How I'm failing myself, and others. Because I have no life. It's easy to be a self obsessed Introvert because Introverts don't have anyone else. People are gateways to different opinions and stories, interesting experiences and personalities. But when you're all alone for 99% of your existence it's easy to focus on yourself.
>>64631236 How so? It's a very accurate assessment of what's going on in this thread. I notice that people who make claims like "projecting" are usually the ones who have had a nerve touched themselves but can't come up with any sensible rebuttal.
