I know this is a weird way to judge things, but all I need to know about how import Robin Williams was is Gilbert Gottried. That man mocked 9/11 days after the incident. He made fun of Japan within minutes of the tsunami. He has a crass and tasteless joke for everything.

But for Robin Williams? This is all he said.

I don't know what the specific case is with Robin but depression has absolutely nothing to do with your life circumstances, it's a chemical imbalance in your brain that leaves you physically unable to feel happy.

Someone needs to change the name because fucking everybody gets it wrong, it's like if they called schizophrenia "confusion" or pathological paranoia "fear".

Fucking this. I've gone through depression, and I'm one of the blessed lucky ones who was helped with medication. People seem to understand schizophrenia in a general sense, and they really need to understand that Depression is kind of the same. It's not as simple as "being sad." It's very diverse, and it's a fucking serious mental illness. In my case, I wasn't sad. I wasn't happy. I was empty. I had no emotion, and I don't think most people are capable of understanding what it's like to be truly dead inside. Everyone uses that expression, but have you ever hugged your mother and told her you love her, and yet felt absolutely nothing? Not a fucking thing? For me, that was depression. It's a fucking horrific mental illness.

Do people really not get that depression isn't just a case of the sads?

I saw Robin Williams at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

I heard from my friend about 4pm, and I couldn't believe it. First thing I said was "bullshit." And I then went through work, just feeling completely out of it.
It really struck deep. I watched a ton of his movies over and over when I was younger. Our family loved all his movies, and we had all of em. Even the ones that were panned. Hell, my parents have made a habit of watching RV once a year.

Never met the man, never saw him perform live, but it feels like I lost really close friend. His films helped brighten dark days, and all I've heard from people who have met him was that he was the nicest person.
We lost a legend, an icon, a hero, and a friend. I didn't think I'd fall apart typing this, but fuck, I'm in tears.

Rest in peace, Robin. You touched so many people with all your performances, and you'll be missed immensely.

Yeah. While suicide can be selfish (as in cases where people kill themselves when they're love interest is dating someone else or whatever), that's not the case when you're truly depressed....

Tomorrow. You'll hear or see something funny and laugh. You'll watch a video that warms your heart. You'll get pissed off at some random asshole on /co/. You'll think about Williams dying, sure, but it won't be as much as today. The next day you'll think of him even less and so on and so on until you'll completely forget until someone or something reminds you a couple of months down the road. Life goes on and you can only empathize and mourn for so long before you have to go along with it, if for nothing else but to find another person worth empathizing with and mourning over.

This may be me jerking myself off while drunk and tired, but I've been on 4chan since the beginning. I've browsed /b/ in 2003. I've watched the rise and fall of boards, the coming of social media, the advent of SJW, the birth and death of the countless internet fads before that. All I know is 4chan. And on this board, there is one reality. We are known for being heartless monsters. 2007 Internet Hate Machine, and all that. It's partly true. We don't play nice here. Generally speaking, we can and will be cruel and evil individuals, laughing all the way.

But there's something that outsiders will never truly understand. At the end of the day, we're a community. If you stick through the insults and jabs, the cries of 'kill yourself' and the requests for self-mutilation, then you're part of the community. And, in my opinion, it's the harshness, the cruelty, the hatred, that brings us close together. It's not as simple as a hazing ritual. It's just a bunch of bitter and like-minded people coming together. We can be cruel. We can be evil. We can be hateful. But at the end of the day, we are each other. Just a random collection of the dregs of so-called 'internet-society' who come together to piss on everyone else.

And that's the thing. Everyone else sees the pissing. No one but us sees the love. We suffer no fools and pity no faggots, but we understand pain. And today, there is pain that we all know and share. So internally, amongst ourselves, we mourn and grieve and share stories, because those are real and they are human.

Today, we're all Anons taking comfort in each other. And ultimately, none of us are ever alone. We always have each other.

Manic depressive here. Money, family and other stuff doesn't fix it. Manic depression is a brain defect, not something that is magically fixed with the right "happy" moment.

Number one misconception about depression seems to be that if you give the person suffering it the right thing such as X amount of money or something it'll fix it.

Oh, my dear Katie. You know, some parents, when they’re angry… they get along much better when they don’t live together. They don’t fight all the time, and they can become better people, and much better mummies and daddies for you. And sometimes they get back together. And sometimes they don’t, dear. And if they don’t, don’t blame yourself. Just because they don’t love each other anymore, doesn’t mean that they don’t love you.

There are all sorts of different families, Katie. Some families have one mommy, some families have one daddy, or two families. And some children live with their uncle or aunt. Some live with their grandparents, and some children live with foster parents. And some live in separate homes, in separate neighborhoods, in different areas of the country - and they may not see each other for days, or weeks, months… even years at a time.

But if there’s love, dear… those are the ties that bind, and you’ll have a family in your heart, forever. All my love to you poppet, you’re going to be alright.

Bye-bye.

Britbong here, occasionally it seems like you guys care more about them than we do. That's probably not the case, but seeing some of your TV coverage on the royal wedding/baby does make me question.
>>
>>64541155
I wouldn't blame the teenagers. When I was diagnosed as "clinically depressed" it was because I was a fucking loser with no friends failing out of college. I got put on happy pills to fix the "chemical imbalance" and they didn't do shit because that wasn't the problem. My life situation was the problem. If I were prescribed running on a treadmill an hour a day that would have probably helped a lot more.

For people who are depressed for absolutely no reason the pills probably do help but psychiatrists just like to slap the depression label onto anyone who is sad.

Claiming depression is also an easy way to avoid taking responsibility for your situation.

People who mess up their lives are often looking for excuses to shove in the faces of their critics,

"look, you kept telling me to get a job/education/life but I was actually depressed! bet you feel stupid now?"

It sucks for people with clinical depression that it's the go-to excuse fucktards use.

30 MILLION in divorce settlement. he had to come out of RETIREMENT as an old man and work again to keep sending them money. He was literally bankrupt, and would have to keep working for another 40 years, not seeing a cent himself.

And his 3rd wife sued for divorce a weeka go.

He has a piece of my childhood.

I was raised by the TV, mom was too busy with he business to feed failing college students that were my half-siblings. Grew up without a room because they kept taking my room for half of my childhood.

TV taught me morals they never did. Robin Williams was a break away from the black and white TV moral system. Thanks Rob.

Hello again neighbor,

I'd thought that this would be a good time to talk to you about feeling the way people do sometimes when they lose something near and dear to them. I know that sometimes it doesn't seem fair to have something you love being suddenly taken away from you; a toy or a video game your parents tell you to stop playing with, a friend who moves away from you, or a favorite pet that runs away, all of these things are things that we lose.

But just because you lose what you can see right in front of you doesn't mean you lose what you remember them as in your heart. Cherish their memory and it will comfort you when you're sad and make you smile when you least expect it. Remember that this is something we all go through at some point in our lives and it is something that you can manage.

I like you for just the way you are, there is no one on this Earth exactly like you, nobody will ever be exactly like you and I think that makes you special.

Remember the good feelings neighbor, I know I will.

So when was the last time you guy even cared about anything Robin Williams did or is this just like Michael Jackson's death where he suddenly becomes your childhood idol once he's gone?
>>
>>64542029
You don't know what you have until you lose it.
>>
>>64542029
It's not about when "you last cared about him", it's a him being an idol for a lot of young kids and an icon of childhood cinema.
Some of us just loved his films for the films, some of us loved the comedy whether to entertain ourselves or keep ourselves occupied from sad things and some of us loved serious Robin who knew how to speak to people and send a message out through acting.
>>
I can't stop crying.
I still can't assume he's gone.
I can't.
It's been hours and I'm still crying.
>>

o/` There are places I remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more o/`
>>
>>64542031
Yeah but you should be able to tell why you're affected by a celebrities death, it should be more than "oh i knew who they were and i kinda like them". The last famous death i was affected by was Smokin' Joe Frazier but that was because he was my all-time favourite boxer and a huge influence on my life.

>>64542037
Fair enough but if i asked you what you thought of Robin Williams last week it probably won't be so praise filled.
>>
>>64542038
Try and get over it, anon.
I don't think he'd ever want you to walk around feeling down all the time.
>>
>>64542029
I was a big fan of both and didn't think any less/more of them after death, it's just a shock to lose someone like that and remind you how much reality sucks
>>
>>64542061
Yeah it's true, like another Anon said, you don't know what you've had until you've lost it
>>
How did you react when you heard about his passing?
I was shocked when I first heard, I couldn't believe it, yet a lot of boards were talking about it.
I started crying just thinking of roles he did I liked him for.
Then I stood up in my bed and said ''O Captain My Captain'' and I continued crying.
The world lost one of the most heartwarming actors ever in the worst way possible.
>>
>>64542073
I still feel it's insincere to exaggerate your sadness for someone you didn't acknowledge until their death.
>>
>>64542085
I tried to convince myself it was a hoax when I found out.
But when I found out the truth, I could feel my heart sinking.
I cried and felt like barfing for the most part. I'm still devastated.
>>
>>64542029
I made it a point of honor to have Hook on DVD.

I have no clue if there's a consensus, but I love the A Night At The Museum movies. Also Ms. Doubtfire, went to watch it on the cinema back then. Still watch reruns.

Turns out I have the Aladdin DVD here, as well. One of the top movies.

Really love Ferngully, didn't remember he was in it as well.

And for the record, I've had a tradition of getting myself a Michael Jackson CD every christmas since before he died. Was a relief in a way when I heard the whole pedophile thing seems to have been a hoax.

And I'm no even one of the more depressed dudes here. So yeah, you tell me.

I'm sorry guys, but... this makes me laugh. Here you are, crying as if you had been a close friend of his.

And you're from a country where relatives hate each other! How can you feel so sad about a celeb dying but not givng a fuck about your relatives?
>>
>>64542121
My relatives were abusive thanks.
>>
>>64542099
Do you acknowledge everybody important to you in your life daily?
Do you have any friends you've lost contact with throughout your life you wouldn't be sad to hear of their passing?
Do you admire anyone for the work they do or have done, that has died?

I understand not jumping on the michael jackson bandwagon. He was dead to me after the incidents with the molesting kids (which admittedly he was found innocent of). Not at least being disappointed you'll never see an actor or person you admire where they're working is at least disappointing.

It could be as simple as an old security guard you wave at every day, but don't know his name or ever meet, only to find out he died. You'll never exchange a look and an acknowledgement with them again. That chapter in your book is closed, and theirs is done.
>>
>>64542121

>from a country where relatives hate each other
I have bad news for you, anon. Unless you live in some North Korean style brainwash academy, yours hate eachother too. Or you're from one of those Duggar style Mormon families where you don't "hate" one another, because you claim what you do is different from hate or dislike due to some handwavy arbitrary tradition.

And speaking personally, my family was negligent, and abusive on a psychological, financial and sometimes physical level. I quite literally have more reason to care about Robin Williams as a figment of the tabloids and late night TV than I do to care about my own father, who'd get drunk and punch holes in the walls while screaming that his 2 and 6 year old kids having imaginary friends was juvenile.
>>
>>64542135
>Do you have any friends you've lost contact with throughout your life you wouldn't be sad to hear of their passing?

There's this girl i was madly in love with but it wasn't meant to be and we fell out of contact sometime last year. For the past couple of months i've been trying to will myself to build up the courage to ask her to meet up, talk, catch-up etc... Thanks for putting the soul-crushing thought of her death in my mind.

>Why was he depressed. It looks like he was on a good standing with his family.

I heard a joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life is harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world. Doctor says, "Treatment is simple. The great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. Says, "But doctor... I am Pagliacci." Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains.

Wow today hasn't been my day. Not only did I love Robin Williams and his work, but seeing him off himself has really fucked with my head.

Within the span of these last years my best friend died, the entire family that raised me died and even my fucking cat died. Ever since that shit went down my finances have been screwed and I've even almost lost my home a few times. Every day is misery and an endless fight just to get to tomorrow. Then I see someone I respected, who still had everything in the world, kill themselves because of an "imbalance". Makes me wonder just how fucked I am in the long run.

>>
>>64543444

well the classic/dark age disney stuff is a good start

anything kyoani since 2007

I didn't say the renaissance was poorly done, it's just not up to snuff with the greats
the linework tends to be a bit wobbly and the movement doesn't quite flow sometimes, often deferring to low budget framerates. They mainly covered up these flaws with flashy computer effects and lighting work. But more than made up for them with great stories and filmmaking in general.

You have to remember the renaissance was actually a period of financial uncertainty for disney and it was the new jewish direction that got them out of it. So of course they cut back on quality to focus on the other aspects that would eventually make them more money.
