I like it a whole lot.

It's a good cartoony show with some nice lore and unique designs, but /co/ has a massive, massive, massive hateboner for it for literally no reason.

My issue with SU is that it desperately wants to be a classic magical girl show, but holds itself back with no major antagonists and most of the conflict being slice of life.
If the show was just about the Gems fighting evil, without Steven, it would be much better.

The show has no laugh out loud moments at all, the fight scenes aren't very interesting, but it looks real nice and cosy.

It would probably benefit from either having a story arc or having 22 minute episodes, but because it's started off with low ratings from the off I don't think it'll ever get the latter. The fact that it's so formulated also makes it predictable, which can work in an outright humor show like P&F or RS, but with something that takes itself serious like this it doesn't work.

I have a feeling that Rebecca had her own idea for a show and Cartoon Network just turned it into Adventure Time 2 to try and guarantee success. What they don't realise is that Adventure Time was successful because it was new and different.

I'd probably give it a 5 or 6 out of ten, because it's just not interesting enough to warrant me giving it any more. I wouldn't turn the tv off if it came on, but I'd definitely check the other channels to see if something more interesting was on.

I disagree. Just last episode I laughed at 6 jokes and that was a pretty middle of the road episode. Tiger Millionaire I'd say is the flat out funniest episode.

Humor isn't it's only focus but it tells jokes worth telling. It does character drama leagues better than other shows right now where the only 2 stories anyone seems to be able to tell is who wants to bone who and the 2 "bros" fight and then make up at the end of the episode.

Atmosphere is what really sells the show though. Very traditional animation combined with a nice to look at painted world look, plus a unique soundtrack for every episode.

I don't think Gems do reproduce, naturally anyway. They're essentially immortal and can regenerate from grievous bodily harm given enough time. I've been thinking that since the gems are clearly aliens that each one is a manifestation of some sort of planet protector spirit and only move on once their world no longer needs them or something. Yeah, but I don't think she told him either and if anything I think that made him hate himself even more than the Gems might dislike him. Think about it, Rose was the best thing in his life and the loss of her made a man already struggling pretty much shut down. He keeps the picture he has of her in storage where he doesn't have to look at it and be filled with guilt constantly. He can only keep it together for Steven because he doesn't have to deal with the stress of raising him full time. He certainly tries, if what Steven reveals about him in So Many Birthdays is any indication, but in the end I think he punishes himself by remaining a sort of dead beat.

I cant remember just how high all the gems think of Rose, but it's possible that Pearl really REALLY looked up to her from them all for whatever reason and Steven's well being might be Rose's final will. Rose gave up her physical form so Steven could be born after all.

And Steven's birth might be Rose's way to make Greg happy and in some twisted way Rose's 'dead' is Greg's fault, so that could be the reason why the gems think he's a mess and shit but then again they do love Steven and HOLY SHIT.

I went in wanting to like it, since I liked Rebecca Sugar's influence on AT. But after a few episodes, it just felt like a whole lot of nothing.
