Is this show any good?
Its a good show and all the main characters are really well developed, its just that because as of right now they haven't fought a villain yet and also that Steven is learning to use his gem powers slowly. I would compare this first season to Adventure Time's first were it starts as just random one and done episodes but eventually will build into a bigger story.
It panders to tumbler too much.
>token white girl is naggy and useless
>black girls are curvy and liberated DUNNEEDNOMAN womyn
>fat acceptance main character
>supports LGBT relationships
At least, that's what I heard here on /co/. I wonder if it's accurate.
Yeah, don't go in expecting a comedy, though. It's basically a light-hearted and chill SOL with bits of action and some lore and worldbuilding sprinkled throughout.
>not really, but I can see what you're getting at.
the gems literally have no human ethnic lineage. and it has never taken a stance on LGBT stuff. it has an episode about Steven wanting to get fit. fucking how?
oh no, fat, lgbt, and proud black characters are the fucking worst right, man fuck people who aren't like me, especially if they're PROUD about it
as someone who's watched every episode, I'd say
not really. if you don't have any motivation to watch it, you're not really missing anything except those old fusion threads on /co/ becoming an actual show.
Clarence doesnt have any black girl characters, just one and she's clarencea age. Hes never accwpted his weight, its never been brought up and has no bearing on him as a character.
To be fair you shouldn't really be proud about being fat. Like it's one thing to realize your fat and not let it bother you because you realize you still have good qualities in you and not just the bad is fine, but to actually be proud of being obese and unhealthy? Yeah, no. That's like being proud for being bulimic.
Favorite episode? I think mine will always be Laser Light Cannon, it had the down-to-earth feeling nailed down throughout the entire episode, especially the storage unit scene:
>that sense of childlike wonder and discovery
>the casualness and confidence of the relationship between Steven and his dad, dropping that tragic backstory with this comfy music playing in the background
The escalation of the Red Eye getting closer and closer (got a real FLCL vibe from that) as Greg's song plays know that you know his deal, and his reaction to the cannon, the light-heartedness of the end scene. Just the pacing in general felt really well done, like a short film.
Ah jeez, I'm sorry for splurging but it was the first time in a long time that I've seen so much emotion put into a cartoon, it was magical.
>Ah jeez, I'm sorry for splurging
NEVER be sorry for caring about something. /co/ will beat you into the ground, trying to get you to be cynical. I say FUCK THAT. Keep liking things and getting excited about things FOREVER.
in other news, did anyone get the comic book?
I have to say it's not bad. I enjoy it occasionally. I've watched maybe 8 episodes at most, and a couple Steven's stupidity is just too much for me, but the show is overall charming in it's own way.
Last one I saw they were climbing to the top of this castle but they had to cross some river that falls out of the castle into the abyss below, so Steven pulls out an inflatable raft and tosses into the river. They then watch it get carried downstream and over the falls. Shit had me rolling, just the execution of it.
if people can find a way to be happy/confident about it, i really see no problem. why exactly do people like you insist that fat people must have no confidence and feel like shit all the time? what's the point? are you just pissed because some women won't conform to YOUR standards of health / beauty ?
>Like it's one thing to realize your fat and not let it bother you because you realize you still have good qualities in you
lol did you just describe yourself
yep fat acceptance was invented by tumblr
yep social movements are a joke because teen girls on the internet or sjw or something
also keep in mind, you've only seen a small fraction of the show so far. if the interviews about the show are accurate, we'll be seeing Steven grow up more as the episodes continue
Of course. This bogeyman permeates the entirety of 4chan; people decide to not enjoy things based on some arbitrary principle as opposed to judging the material itself, it's asinine.
they are trolls, or insecure teenagers who label things using scapegoats (tumblr, SJWs. bronies, etc etc)
They're doing it because theyre bored and being mean on the internet is their only outlet. They want to stir up anger.
The only advice is to ignore and move on
>if people can find a way to be happy/confident about it, i really see no problem. why exactly do people like you insist that fat people must have no confidence and feel like shit all the time?
I never said that. What part of "not let it bother you" did you not read?
>Some women won't conform to YOUR standards of health / beauty ?
My comment was for all people period. Not sure why you brought women in here.
Being obese IS an health issue, there really is no looking at it any other way. Should we mock and crucify anyone that's obese? Of course not! But to be PROUD of being unhealthy? That's stupid.
Being cynical isn't that bad of a thing. It won't you to fall so hard when things go bad.
I am sure this show is going to go the way of AT, but worse. People will say that it had so much potential from the first season while others will say that it had that potential feom even before the show was made and tje first season squandered it. Then, there will be some that defend it.
The only merciful thing to happeb if it hets canceled in three seasons.
dude. you are taking the position of a coward. nobody is going to laugh at you if your favorite show gets cancelled and you're let down.
Why spend time "cautiously enjoying" things when you can fully enjoy them RIGHT NOW without having to constantly brace yourself for disappointment?
Live for today, Anon.
That's less cynicism and more general pessimism.
AT's plot elements were sort of made up as they went along (stemming from a purely comedy base), this has a much more established world and lore right from the get go.
I don't like this show, so it's non issue forme anyway.
Also a 'Naruto' fan and was Iin the weekly thread of it today.
I still stand by my belief. This show had been premeditated from the beginning. I don't see how this will change much at all, especially foe the better.
yeah my argument was more against a general attitude i see on the internet, not really against yours, but still idk why you're on here telling people what they shouldn't be proud of, like really who the fuck are you?
>Characters are distinct and interact well
>Show is pretty good at surprising you
>Lore revealed just enough to remain intriguing and mysterious
>Interaction between "normal" world and "magical" world is neat
>Humor can be pretty great
>Generally chill vibe
>Kinda aimless, all the episodes so far are one-offs
>A lot of episodes revolve around Amethyst or Steven fucking up somehow, irritating as fuck
>Chill vibe goes too far sometimes, flat-out boring
>Seriously fuck Amethyst
I've sort of come to the realization that as soon as I understand something's formula I like it a whole lot less. Steven Universe started out alright, but very early on I was able to figure out the formula for the writing and even more so the humor. After that point I realized that it was going to be rather repetitive with very few new and different ideas/takes for episodes, and stopped watching.
Watched 3 or 4 episodes. here are no real jokes (definitely no funny ones) and a lot of uninteresting fight scenes, but at least it looks real nice and cosy. Something tells me that CN wanted something with the success of adventure time so they just turned it into another adventure time
Is it good? Or does it at least fit the tone of the show?
>When Opal got shanked
Anon be less dumb
And because Steven has her gem since it is connected at the point of the umbilical chord on each of them we can assume it was passed through the birthing of Steven.
Has anyone storytimed it yet? I might do it if I had a download link.
Forgot the image
You'd think that she'd be a little too serious for it.
Naw I like it as well. /co/ seems to want to force everyone to hate this show because it isn't within there dumb small guidelines of what is and isn't Tumblr (an arcane definition at best) when it honestly seems like most people like it.
Guys, I just got a leak for the third season.
>It's been a long day for all the Gems, but it has been longer for Pearl. What awaits her when she discovers new feelings?
Pearlnet is canon! Woohoo!
>Jonah Eudialyte seems to have a great family, being three years old now, he has discovered his telepathy power. His mothers, his big brother, Steven, Amethyst, and Jade are one happy family, but when Peri comes back and takes Jonah with the help of a witch, what will Pearl and Garnet do?
yes, but after you watch it, your favorite gem better be best gem
if not, never post here again and promptly kill yourself
>That's the actual consensus around here.
scraps and me have a very good relationship, as seen in this photo taken last summer.
>Should we mock and crucify anyone that's obese?
As a fat fuck trying to get fit with some success I say that we absolutely should. Obesity is not only a ruinous health condition, but a sign of weak will in 95% of cases.
>rape scene wasn't brutal enough, just ended abruptly without describing cumming inside small brown pussy.
its shit, as i suspected.
Not just any porn, the hottest and disgusting kind. Non porn.
These are unedited, Cpt. is editing them himself to upload or whatever later.
But where's the fun in story timing.
Don't tell cpt.
No just regular editing. Like removal of the black boarders and stuff.
Being confident and being PROUD are two completely different things. I'm fat, I've got more than enough chub to go around. I've accepted it, I'm okay with it. I eat healthy, I just don't burn it off. Big deal.
What I DO have a problem with is those anti-fatshaming fucks that promote it like it's a GOOD thing. There are more cons than pros for me, and I'm not even CLOSE to achieving the level these pigs have gotten to. When I see fatties that literally look like the fat caricatures in Judge Dredd in real life, and they talk about it like it's a GOOD thing, it just sets me off.
I just checked out my window and there's this weird looking van.
Shout out to Cpt. Mad Megane.
Now to answer the door.
nah, i have that on in my google drive and pastbin, i only actually lost like... 3 chapters from 3 different stories.
i don't know who that is.
what ego do i have?
and what do you refer to by 'cancer dwellings'?
and finally, why is my writing so bad?
>One white person in the show is naggy but not in an antagonistic fashion
whoops that's bad
>Black girl is a good leader, other is spunky and free-spirited
>main character is a chubby kid
haven't ever seen that before nope
>gay is ok
awful, call the cops on this show
It has potential, but it insists on doing stupid shit keeping Steven in the forefront when there are clearly more interesting things happening.
Aside from that some problems include; Steven never fails and probably doesn't understand what failure means, the gems are all three annoying in their own unique way like Pearl is an overbearing mom, Garnet is aloof and Amethyst acts like a 12 year old. They introduce characters that I guess you're supposed to feel sorry for, even though they aren't that bad off. Like that girl who's family's always moving or the kid who hates being a mascot. Oh boo fucking hoo. And if you're the kind of guy who wants to cite the fandom as a problem, they treat the show like it's the best thing since sliced bread even though virtually nothing impressive's happened.
And there's alot of SJ pandering. And I never say shit like that.
I agree with you, but at the same time I think I enjoy most of the released episodes a great deal. I've still got hope for the future, are you going to hang around as new ones come out or are you going to drop it?
Steven does fail. He fails a lot, actually. I don't mind the fact that the show focuses on him instead of the gems. It keeps their dealings more mysterious and is what sets the tone for the show. It does seem a bit SJ-ish, but I don't think it gets in the way. It's mostly just the character designs. I wouldn't say it's perfect, but it's definitely good.
Honestly what bothers me is the fact that when there is action the gems are shown to be fairly useless. I feel like most of the time it's Steven who thinks up of something or does a thing that saves the 3 powerful alien guardians.
At first I enjoyed this because it showed that Steven could hold on his own and isn't useless but it's gone to a point where the fat 12-year old kid is more useful. All episodes including Gems trying to understand human culture and Giant women were top tier though.
What bothers me is how we're in season 2 and yet they don't seem to have any intention of explaining what the fuck's going on. What are the Gems? Why are they here? What destroyed them?
There's a deliberate attempt here at making sure none of the characters is attractive (except for the pizza girl). Like I said, it just seems a bit SJ-ish and it doesn't really get in the way if you don't think about it. It's actually a lot less intrusive than the typical "girls are just as good as boys" episodes from so many other shows.
He often figures out mundane solutions to magical problems. I think that's fine because he's the first partially-human member that the team has ever had, so he brings a new point of view to how they usually do things. The other gems are still definitely more powerful than him and are the ones who do the fighting. And they constantly save his ass too.
I can't. I have 300 episodes of Naruto, 150 of Just Shoot Me, 11 of Anime X-men, and however many episodes are in Phineas and Ferb season 4 before I can get back to it. My TV show queue is fucking gigantic.
You're really stupid if you don't understand that the confirmation is CN actually sending in the millions to produce this cartoon. They've tied the literal knot and they're up shit creek if Steven Universe tanks.
So basically the saw the success of AT, threw down all their winnings and said "Give me more of that!" and got Rebeca Suger at a point where AT has a loyal fanbase no matter it's quality.
At the moment, I'm switching between Naruto and Just Shoot me, largely because Naruto is the only one in a format my Vita can play.
Plus there's 200 episodes of JAG I downloaded and never got around to watching, but I'm not sure I'll like those yet.
Are lessons/message/theme a synonym for sj now?
You know what sj I hate ? The ugly bad brute looking or animal are good and the high tech society is bad...sam jack did that sj thing with mandark frogs..ugh. good music but was pointless
I'm not sure "has a huge female fanbase" is grounds for canceling. It's if the show doesn't make money, which is something caused by a fanbase that's too split between the genders, but if there's still enough boys watching to sell their toys, it'll stay on the air.
Young Justice wasn't making money. It was too expensive to produce, and too much of the money went to DC for using the characters. Yes, the female fanbase was an issue, but if it was making money, it wouldn't have been a major one. The executives didn't just go "Ok, girls like this, so we need to cancel it."
Actually, the original Thunder Cats did the opposite of that. The cats had the technology and were the heroes and Mum-Ra was an ancient mummy who relied on magic rather than technology and he was the bad guy. They switched the roles in the remake for whatever reason. And the original also had that episode where the ugly dog monsters and the technologically advanced robot teddy bears learned to cooperate to cover each other's weaknesses.
No, I remember, there was one episode. A good looking alien came to get the TC's help, because he was being chased by an ugly, evil alien. By the end of the episode, it was reveled that the ugly alien was a bounty hunter chasing after the good looking, evil alien. It was well over a decade ago, and I've forgotten all the details, but it sounds like this guy remembers: >>64361399.
Oh. I didn't remember that one. I guess it was one of those "appearances can be deceiving" episodes. Although it was kind of at odds with the central conflict between attractive cat people and ugly mummy with ugly mutant minions.
Holy jesus are you okay
The version I watched was pretty low quality but I enjoyed it anyway.
It might be worth waiting the couple weeks for it to come out in America. I couldn't wait because everyone kept talking about it on /co/ and I needed to know what the hype was about.
Real question- Why does /co/ hate Steven Universe? I personally don't think it's the greatest show in CN but it's nice and comfy and it's fairly enjoyable. But whenever it's mentioned out of a Steven thread /co/ hates it as if it's the worst thing CN ever made and the only reasoning it get's is "muh Tumblr". I wouldn't mind a legit reason why people hate it, like I said I'm not that into it.
Even in this thread where OP ask's if it's good or not I still see a vauge bunch of answers. Can someone please tell me why people/you don't like? And don't say shitposting or SJW.
Please show me what where your thoughts as this thread is a fucking mess. What became a recommendation thread seemed to turned into a general. I gave my thoughts positives and negatives aswell but fuck if this thread has slightly derailed.
I think it has amazing voice work, I really like the character designs (But that's subjective), it projects a really calm subdued lazy summer feel in basically every scene invoking nice nostalgia inside me, and it reminds me of crunchy anime VHS of sailor moon and Utena I'd pick up as a kid thanks to the magical girl theme.
I really like Magical girl stuff so that's also a lot of it.
Well, that's what happens when someone asks /co/ if they should watch a show. It's pointless because it will always turn into a shitstorm. They should just watch it and decide for themselves.
> It takes the worse parts of tumblr and turns it into a cartoon.
But what does that mean! You literally explained nothing! I'm not even defending whether it's good or not!
Tell me. Why is this show shit. Explain! Examples! Reasons!
>What became a recommendation thread seemed to turned into a general. I gave my thoughts positives and negatives aswell but fuck if this thread has slightly derailed.
That because of the guys >>64362161 and >>64362034 mentioned. They need a new place to shitpost now that HSG is gone.
I just finished this, should be enough explanation
>POC characters for privilege checking.
>boring and unoriginal plot
>awful arty style
>radical character designs (ie Lars)
>The creator is a hideous beast.
Okay. So this whole time it really was the minority. Then why is there always atleast two people that always claim it to be shit when it's mentioned practically anywhere else, in any other thread. And yes, I refuse to believe it's always shitposting everyday all the time.
When? Kiki never denied pizza only teased steven
Others show are worse
Slice of life is like that
Better than other line up
Yeah too simple but reminds me of samurai jack
Reminds me symbiotic titan
I don't understand
She homely but cute
Huh. So this whole time it was just bait. And I fell for.
I guess this is what I deserve for not thinking the worst of people and not accusing everyone of samefagging.
It's not a random topic, there's a few...weirdos on 4chan who do this on most boards - there's genuiunely controversial topics, and then there's things that'll attract one try-hard troll.
can we turn this into a garnet thread and stop arguing
I genuinely didn't know though.
There's no need to get so upset.
Just report and chill.
It is time.
I don't know what you're talking about
Pearl. Rick has one weakness his ability to die.
