Favorite episode? I think mine will always be Laser Light Cannon, it had the down-to-earth feeling nailed down throughout the entire episode, especially the storage unit scene:

The escalation of the Red Eye getting closer and closer (got a real FLCL vibe from that) as Greg's song plays know that you know his deal, and his reaction to the cannon, the light-heartedness of the end scene. Just the pacing in general felt really well done, like a short film.

Ah jeez, I'm sorry for splurging but it was the first time in a long time that I've seen so much emotion put into a cartoon, it was magical.

I have to say it's not bad. I enjoy it occasionally. I've watched maybe 8 episodes at most, and a couple Steven's stupidity is just too much for me, but the show is overall charming in it's own way.

Last one I saw they were climbing to the top of this castle but they had to cross some river that falls out of the castle into the abyss below, so Steven pulls out an inflatable raft and tosses into the river. They then watch it get carried downstream and over the falls. Shit had me rolling, just the execution of it.

It's lacking in several aspects, but it's by no means a downright awful show.

It has potential, but it insists on doing stupid shit keeping Steven in the forefront when there are clearly more interesting things happening.

Aside from that some problems include; Steven never fails and probably doesn't understand what failure means, the gems are all three annoying in their own unique way like Pearl is an overbearing mom, Garnet is aloof and Amethyst acts like a 12 year old. They introduce characters that I guess you're supposed to feel sorry for, even though they aren't that bad off. Like that girl who's family's always moving or the kid who hates being a mascot. Oh boo fucking hoo. And if you're the kind of guy who wants to cite the fandom as a problem, they treat the show like it's the best thing since sliced bread even though virtually nothing impressive's happened.

And there's alot of SJ pandering. And I never say shit like that.

Steven does fail. He fails a lot, actually. I don't mind the fact that the show focuses on him instead of the gems. It keeps their dealings more mysterious and is what sets the tone for the show. It does seem a bit SJ-ish, but I don't think it gets in the way. It's mostly just the character designs. I wouldn't say it's perfect, but it's definitely good.

Honestly what bothers me is the fact that when there is action the gems are shown to be fairly useless. I feel like most of the time it's Steven who thinks up of something or does a thing that saves the 3 powerful alien guardians.

At first I enjoyed this because it showed that Steven could hold on his own and isn't useless but it's gone to a point where the fat 12-year old kid is more useful. All episodes including Gems trying to understand human culture and Giant women were top tier though.

Actually, the original Thunder Cats did the opposite of that. The cats had the technology and were the heroes and Mum-Ra was an ancient mummy who relied on magic rather than technology and he was the bad guy. They switched the roles in the remake for whatever reason. And the original also had that episode where the ugly dog monsters and the technologically advanced robot teddy bears learned to cooperate to cover each other's weaknesses.
