Did you guys ever consider that it's a central plot point that when they crossed over to this new world, they cut open a loop in the dimension drift, that's causing the universe itself to slowly rip and unravel? The bandages are too hold particles together until they can find a way to fix it. It was heavily implied in the trailers.

I'm thinking they'll just simplify the original origin to "evil Sonic clone created by Eggman" since that's how people who just barely remember the games will remember him. The backstory is probably more complicated and dark than anything the show will use (it wasn't that complicated or dark, but the series seems to be super light hearted).
