This, really. The writers finally decided to give a shit and because the show is in its last season and on its way out, nobody noticed. The Usagi three-parter was fucking superb.
I wish they'd put this much effort into the rest of the series. It might've rivaled the 2003 iteration.

I hate that they flubbed his death so badly. It should have been a heart-breaking moment, but because it was so sudden and they'd teased it happening twice before, the moment just didn't land the way it should have. Not to mention they brought him back as a ghost in the VERY NEXT EPISODE to deliver exposition to Leonardo.
The Nick cartoon really could have been something special if it had just gotten out of its own way a little more.

Finally watched the Droids cartoon all the way through after a lifetime of only ever having seen one episode. So, some thoughts.
>Thall Joben Cycle
The Droids meet a rebellious teen pilot/driver with a heart of gold on a desert planet and oh he has a light saber. Pretty on the fuckin nose. And the evil plot is a weapons satellite that can fire deadly lasers from space at planets, which the heroes must disable. Pretty really on the fuckin nose. But at least Boba Fett was the villain in one episode.
>Jann Tosh Cycle
Even worse. Jann is the exact same character as the last guy; a rebellious teen with a heart of gold whom the Droids encounter on a desert planet. All that shit with the royal family at least set it apart from the first arc, but the space pirates were shitty villains ("Kybo Ren"?). I was excited when IG-88 showed up as a villain in one episode, but then he vanishes halfway through and hardly interacts with the heroes. What a waste.
>Mungo Baobab Cycle
Show went from Zero to Almost Good all at once. Probably having Paul Dini as a writer helped. But the master in this one, Mungo, at least wasn't a Luke knock-off and the Empire as the villains were way more exciting (really like Admiral Screed). Got really ballsy in the last two episode with several on-screen deaths. Show actually ends just as it was starting to get decent.
Next up is Ewoks. I dunno what I'm gonna get out of that.
