Yes. This is how fairy tales are written, and this film came out in 1988, well before subverting fairy tale tropes was a whole thing like it is today, so they were more or less playing it straight. And in an old fashioned fairy tale setting getting married at 16 is normal. That song the daughters of Triton sing at the start? It's Ariel's debut. It's a classic coming out party celebrating her reaching marriagiable age. Snow White was 14 in her movie and she also ran off with her prince. Even so, Disney still tried to make Ariel a strong female protagonist so it came off as kind of progressive for its time. Because for once the princess actually had a little personality and a bit of spunk, and at the time that was enough.

But yeah, by today's standards the movie is a little iffy to rewatch.

The problem is thats what Daredevil is.

Superhero isnt a genre, its a character descriptor, and a vague one at that.

Daredevil is a crime drama with action and thriller elements, Daredevil himself is a superhero.

If you're a superhero work first, you've failed, no matter the medium. Its style with no substance.

Likewise, like Iron Fist, if you dont engage in the that mythology, if you dont embrace it, its substance without style.

Daredevil works because its substance AND style.

You need to embrace the stupidity and accept it. Dont push it away, play it straight, use it. Play to all the strengths.

Most men like being manly and doing manly things, Most women like being girly and doing girly things, why does the majority of shows have to push breaking down gender roles, granted some are lower key about it, but you see it in everything now. You can't find much targeted towards girls 12 and up that doesn't do that.
