Is the divorce the reason for the noticeable dip in quality this season? Episodes are pretty much divided between Rick adventures and family stuff, and while the Rick half is still pretty good, the family scenes are boring and unfunny. Anyone else feel this way? Was the Smith family being together a good thing for the show?

This movie stinks.
Why make a prequel that shits over all the stuff that was already established before?
What exactly determines if a monster is "scary" enough to be a scarer? Plenty of monsters looked like fuzzy beachballs or oversized stuffed animals, so why did only Mike get singled out as not scary? The losers in OK weren't scary either.
Speaking of, how could Hardscrabble arbitrarily decide who was worthy enough to be in the scare program or not? Sulley was clearly scary enough on his own and Mike clearly knew the theories of scaring to be a good scarer. That's like telling a med student "yeah I don't think you have what it takes to be a doctor" even though their grades are perfect. I know she was butthurt about them breaking her scare canister but why even leave something like that out in the open unprotected anyway?
What's the difference between making a kid cry and making a kid scream? Hardscrabble said that crying would alert the parents to come into the room and expose the monster, but wouldn't a scream do the exact same thing? I would think a scream would have the parents come running faster if anything.
Further more both Sulley and Mike were able to get enough scare energy at the end to fill hundreds of canisters and overload the door. shouldn't that have been enough to impress Hardscrabble and let them back in?
This whole movie was a mess.

Me, I watched it expecting mediocrity but was pleasantly surprised. An overall good movie, I would go as far as to say that I'm fairly excited for the sequel. Would rate it 7.5/10
I liked how selfreferential it was and some parts were creative, though the plot could get confusing at times and I thought they forced drama in the part where Tim is alone at the airport.

I saw it with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised, for one the imagination bits were a really nice and the style overall derived from the usual dreamworks look.
The story was nothing to write home about but it was fun and interesting enough to enjoy it.

It's a BAD idea to waste an interesting and good villain on the first movie, because the first movie is all about establishing the relationships between the characters and showing off cool scenes of the heroes beating up mooks. Just look at New 52 Justice League where Darkseid had to be reduced to a Big Guy for everyone to punch because they couldn't waste pages establishing his pathos and motivation.
As for the design, it was either this or make him just a guy in a helmet, in which case everyone would accuse them of copying Loki, so it was a no-win scenario.
