Carnage was always good at serving his purpose, he was what should have been the final piece to the symbiote story, he served as the pure evil to Venom's morally ambiguous grey area and Spider-Mans pure good, he worked just fine and was entertaining in all of his initial appearances.

However, it is the "hip" thing on this board to not only hate everything 90s but also hate everything dark or "edgy", so Carnage has been universally hated by legitimate oldfags who hate all new characters and just this board for the aforementioned reasons, although ever since his AXIS story the newfags here realized he isn't "grimdark" so he gets a little more respect

And even if it were great, Transformers always seems to be the black sheep of nerd crap anyway so people who aren't into Transformers will dismiss/hate it regardless. As much of a meme as it is, I do in fact think they are onto something with the whole "people don't relate to robots", because for fuck's sake, as much as people bitch about these movies they've brought more money and attention to the franchise than anything since it's inception from normies, while others tend to just not give a damn about a robot centric franchise
