Alright, /ck/ I recently got a job as the pantry cook at a restaurant and need to get my self a set of knives Ideally with a carrying case I'm new to all this so I have no idea where to go or what to get.
Why are cheves expected to buy their own knives? Do they have to bring pots and pans from home too? Seriously, there is no other industry that expects this without at least monetary compensation.
This is true, I have a bread knife that is for general use and it sucks, the head chef gave me a pretty nice 10 inch knife to get me started but I need a full set for all the shit I do.
when a restaurant has its own knives they are crap and never sharp. people abuse them since they dont own them.

carpenters use their own hammers and saws, electricians use their own pliers and screwdrivers. painters use their own brushes.
most mechanics use their own tools.
part of work for many jobs is supplying yourself with whatever is required to do a good job and compared to these jobs a few knives dont cost very much and can last for years when you look after them
