This is true, I have a bread knife that is for general use and it sucks, the head chef gave me a pretty nice 10 inch knife to get me started but I need a full set for all the shit I do.

carpenters use their own hammers and saws, electricians use their own pliers and screwdrivers. painters use their own brushes.
most mechanics use their own tools.
part of work for many jobs is supplying yourself with whatever is required to do a good job and compared to these jobs a few knives dont cost very much and can last for years when you look after them
