I mean, he was doing it before anyone else. 2004? YouTube didn't even exist till 2005. And while his production values sucked, and the acting is BAD, the stuff he reviews is interesting to a lot of people.
When I was younger there were a few sites on the internet that emulated nes games in browser, and I played quite a few. It was so fun to watch him play the games and articulate why they were so terrible. It made you appreciate the really good ones, and it exposed you to ones you never knew existed. I imagine the effect was greater for adults who actually lived in the 8bit/16bit era.
