Since a decent steak doesn't need sauce, what is steak sauce good for?
A decent steak doesn't *need* sauce, but ANY steak can be enhanced by sauce, e.g. bearnaise, bordelaise, etc. can make a good steak into a great steak. It all depends on how you use it.
I usually put a little A1 or London Pub Sauce in my meatloaf. Also, if I'm doing sandwiches with leftover flank steak or tri trip, a little steak sauce helps with the fact that it'll inevitably be a little overcooked from the reheating.

A1 isn't a good sauce, but a good steak is only hurt by not having a good sauce accompanying. Unless of course you have a shit tongue incapable of handling more than a couple flavors at once.
That said A1 sucks on steak, but its pretty great on burgers
