Okay so this is a weird question...

I've been brewing some makgeolli, which is basically korean rice beer. Anyway, I checked it today to stir it up, and there are small bugs around the edge of the fermentation bucket. Like weevils maybe... I don't know how the fuck they got in since it's been in a sealed bucket with an airlock, only opened briefly once a day to stir. I can only assume they were already in something I put in there. I didn't see any in the rice (which I thoroughly washed), plus I cooked it so I assume that would have killed them? My guess is the nuruk... It's this wheat shit that has the right bacteria in it... Shit was pretty dirty, had string and random chunks of other shit in it. It's made basically by making a cooked wheat brick and leaving it outside.

Anyway the point is, they're all dead. I assume because they've been in some fairly alcoholic shit blanketed with a ton of CO2......... So is it okay to still drink this shit?

Rice weevils, they are common and burrow in rice. It's fine as long as your batch isn't spoiled.

I don't think it's spoiled, just smells like alcohol right now. Been fermenting for like 4 days at this point, and it's starting to slow down. Guess I'll just filter it and transfer to a carboy or something, and drink as soon as possible.
This stuff isn't meant to age anyway.

id assume the alchohol killed the bugs so if you filter them out you shouldnt have more outbreaks

2nd for rice weevils.

Apparently they're pretty much unavoidable in rice sometimes, but a quick freeze kills them and their eggs.

Sometimes consumers fail to find the bugs due to sufficiently low temps during shipping.

Anywho, more brotein, amirite?

Lol yeah. This shit is supposed to be healthy anyway so the more protein the better.

Are you Korean?

How do weevils get into rice? When I was in asia, there's always a bunch of them in cooked rice. Being back in Canada, haven't even seen a single one.

Stricter guideline for insect parts.
Parboiled (& filtered?) Rice.
