>well done is a waste of a good steak
If you can't cook a welldone steak and keep it moist and tasty then YOU are a shit cook. Just because it's not ideal doesn't mean it can't be delicious.
Would one "reverse sear" the steak in order to keep it from drying out by the time it reaches appropriate doneness?
i sometimes do well done while i'm camping and it's dark and everyone's drunk
they're fall off the bone good even though i prefer rare

Filthy fucking casuals get off my board.

I'm pretty sure some food critics intentionally order a well-done steak for this reason.

It might be somewhat moist but it's not tasty.

Had this same expirence.
1. Put steak on rock next to fire pit
2. leave there for an hour
3. see if it's hot yet
4. wait another hourish or 4 more beers
5. delisious stake
Yeah OP I totally agree. People don't know what they're missing when they don't order their steak well. I like mine with a little ketchup on the side too.
I don't know why I get weird looks when I bring this up to other cooks. Nothing sets off the flavor of a well done steak like some ketchup.

Rare to Medium-Rare vs. Welldone
Rare to Medium-Rare is cooked at a high heat for a short amount of time to create a crust on the outside while leaving the inside pink.
Well-Done is cooked at a low heat for a long time in order to cook the steak throughout while it remains moist.
And now you know.

More umami = more tasty.
You just don't know how to taste.
Black Dad BBQ steaks are most definitely a thing. moist, tender, and entirely well done.
Can't tell you how, it'a black people secret but we cook everything well done and it still tastes great
