I'm not an alcoholic do I don't have to worry.

I'm drinking right now, just got home from work.

Sucks that your parents combined genes couldn't breed out the propensity for addiction and you're a walking birthdefect.
>>
>>7236276

Hopefully. Today is day 1 sober.
>>
I don't drink, and never have, so I think I'll get through it.
>>
I'm going to make it I have to.
>>
>>7236288
alcoholism is a relatively new disorder, we havent had strong enough liquor for more than 3000 years and even then it was restricted to upper classes. It wasn't until the 1300s we got really strong liquor, hardly enough time to breed it out of humanity, esp since it doesnt kill you untill your 50s, past prime breeding time

last night drinking beer for me before a 1 month break.

I'll keep brewing though, gotta build up that pipeline
>>
>>7236321

Addiction is addiction. No matter the chemical or stimulus. Women treated for a shopping addiction get the same therapy as someone coming off drugs or alcohol...with the exception of the extensive medical treatment necessary to ween people off chemicals.

Don't rationalize your mental retardation to me, I'm not your case worker or parole officer.
>>
Yeh Im taking a break for the month too, also going off porn and sugar, but the aim is for the porn and sugar to come back as a special treat and for alcohol to come back as a 2-3 day a week thing.
Not alcoholic, just need a break from the holiday period.
Porn and sugar are just bad for you.
>>
I'm going to have to counter balance no-fap 2016 somehow...
>>
>>7236276

I just went three months sober, suck it up.
>>

What's with the meme that alcoholics only drink spirits? I drink mostly cider. You can get drunk on anything, and if you get drunk every night, can't do without it and regularly stay drunk for extended periods, you definitely fit the bill.

Actually I'm almost certain it's an American thing or something to do with older folk. My dad drinks cider too and has been an alcoholic since he was my age. However my friend's aunt is convinced he's an alcoholic since she found a single whiskey bottle in his room, which he kept because it looked nice.

Can anyone shed some light on why people think this way? But I guess my point was that you can get black out drunk on almost anything you drink fast enough, unless you're really overweight, and so alcoholism has probably existed since humans have had easy access to any sort of alcohol.
>>
Fuck January, how about dry LIFE!

My liver loves me :P
>>
>>7237201
Fucking really dude? Have you tried google?
>>
>>7237201
it's probably because spirits are called "hard alcohol" and nobody wants to think they can be an alcoholic as long as they stick to "soft alcohol"

but most people don't realize that traditionally, a lot of beer was barely alcoholic and wine was diluted
>>
please help me /ck/ i mean i love you guys. so i like to drink. ive always stuck to beer and wine. but ive gotten into harder shit. right now im drinking rum 35% straight. and is this ok? i mean it wont hurt me right? i feel good. but even though i feel that little burn when i take a sip, its ok? its not indicitive that something is wrong? im sorry im a hypochondriac?

but when is a hard drink "too" hard? like, is it "ok" to drink vodka or rum from a glass, in the same way that one drinks beer or wine from a glass? im drinking rum out of a wine glass. how will i know if its seriously compromising my health

i mean i just love it. is the burn ok?
>>
>>7237301
also everyone i know mixes rum with coke and vodka like lemon juice and shit...so am i weird if i just drink it straight? can our bodies handle that?
>>
>>7237301
shut up fag

"I believe human beings define their reality through misery & suffering"

Pic unrelated, drink responsibly

Sounds like an ulcer in your throat, get it checked out. If it ruptures your will choke on your own blood.
>>
took a half a xanax my bitch gave me and HTG it seems to be working famslam. Didn't drink more than a glass or so of vodka last night and on track to get to bed with less than a pint under weigh tonight

>there's hope
>it's called drugs
>>
Trying not to drink if you are alcoholic won't work, you'll just relapse harder. Just drink a little if you got the Tremors.
>>
No not even close. Already drank this year. But I'm not an alcoholic and wasn't trying to.
>>7236288
lol don't be silly. we're never going to breed out addiction-susceptible personality traits. Most addictions kill you slowly enough that you can reproduce first.

besides, there's a very real chance it's actually mostly a product of normal brain processes in odd circumstances. There may not be a way to breed an addiction-proof human.
>>
>>7238055
This. I've downed pints before because my withdrawals got too far and I panicked.
>>
Is dry January a thing? I've only ever heard of dry July. That makes sense because it rhymes. January is totally arbitrary, and a horrible idea in both hemispheres. The northern hemisphere wants spirits for comfort in the cold, the southern hemisphere wants beer for comfort in the heat.
>>
I'm doing pretty good so far. But it's not really a surprise. I fall into the category of alcoholics who go through long periods of drinking and then periods of sobriety. I can stay off the drink if I have to, but I always go back.
>>
>>7236337
>Addiction is addiction. No matter the chemical or stimulus.

You're discussing psychological addiction.

Certain substances cause a physical dependency above and beyond psychological addiction: alcohol and opiates are two examples.
>>
>>7238081
I don't think it's a thing, I think it's just something a lot of people decide to do because it's a new year and it feels more natural to commit to something.
>>
>>7236276
I hope not. Tonight's the first night of my beer drinking league.
>>
>>7236282
Ouch.

For me, it's the point between Wild Turkey 101 and Everclear. Haven't had Bacardi 151 in a while though, so it's a big range. 101 goes down smooth, but Everclear will make you sound like you were just in a couple's shouting match.
>>
>dry january

Literally how? I get working out and eating right but January is cold and depressing, I couldn't make it though this shitty month without drinking every now and again
>>
>>7240236
> every now and again

Do people actually do this for real? Never managed to lightly drink or occasionally drink like...ever.
>>
>>7240284
When I say every now and again I like 3-4 times a week but only in the evenings. I'm way to poor to be an alcoholic and constantly be drinking.
>>
>>7240284

Learn some self control mate, Yea its hard, but its also alot more enjoyable when your not using it literally every day.
>>
oh god its so hard not to drink. But I must not drink for I am a shizo and it will only make my symptoms worse.
>>
>>7237301
You will know when you wake up one morning with a pain in your right side under your ribs, and your skin is yellow.
>>
Question. Any of you successfully recovering alcoholics notice your hair getting thicker? I've heard it's possible with the right vitamins and diet.
>>
>>7240236
tell me about it man, January is fuckin horrible. Literally nothing good happens in January. Drunk right now waiting for Febr.... March
>>
>>7240506
Certain cases of hair loss can be attributed to malnutrition
>>
>>7240516
I mean, I don't doubt that's what the cause of mine was. I've been drinking very heavily for like 5 or 6 years now. Both men and women in both sides of my family have thick hair, so I know it's not attributed to genetics.

I just want my luscious thick hair back. I hope my doctor can get me back on the right track next week.
>>
3 days sober after a long bender, shakes finally going away, hope I can sleep for more than a half hour at a time tonight. Fuck withdrawals suck
>>
>>7238833
Or maybe sever enough psychological dependence creates physical dependence?
>>
>>7238833

All addiction is a psychological issue, the root of a person necessity to self medicate is always from past butthurt.
>>
>>7238077

Gattaca is only a century away my friend, our Grandchildren might be the product of genetic engineering, imagine it... a perfect part of you.

Awesome.

I'm drinking mouth wash because I ran out of vodka does that coint?
>>
>>7240506
I remember you. Just get used to your hair getting thinner, nothing escapes the ravages of time. If you're up to it, get propecia, but make sure you cut that shit if you get any of those wacky side effects ASAP

Do any of you have permanent dark circles under your eyes? I feel like even when I'm sober, I still look suspicious as fuck. Not a good feeling at all.
>>
>>7241032
I have the dead eyes, not because of boozing though if anything that kept me alive.

>>7240830
You're taking a very ignorant and simplistic view, sasuga anon.
>>
>>7241029
I wasn't the guy who posted that in the last thread.
>>
>>7241032
I've got black circles, but then again I don't sleep either. Girls i've dated have said they're "cute", but women are insane so I dunno.
>>
>>7241081
okay, but the same exact post applies.
