Road is dead as fuck so I get out and go assess the damage, not a ding, car was like a tank, but then I see poor little Bambi, dude is rekt. Keeps twitching, trying to move but it can't, can tell is back is broken or something but this little fella is conscious and suffering.

I pick Bambi up by his hind legs, and I do a babe Ruth with it, smacking the back of his head/neck into the metal pole hard as hell. Homerun. Surprised its head didn't fly clean off, it was dead as possible. Sat in my car for like 5 minutes stunned at what I'd just done.
I still look back on it like wtf but I'd have done it again had to end is misery asap. I guess I could have tried running over its head but fuck that.

I do the same thing you're doing, except the meat goes into the oven in the roasting pan at like 475F and browns first.
Then onion/garlic/liquids are thrown in, lid on, ~300F for 8 hours.

What are beef jerky prices like in the US?
Britbong here, trying to cut down on carbs, and beef jerky/biltong is delicious, but really expensive (~£2.50 for a 30g bag, which google tells me is about $4).
Depends a lot on where you buy it and also if it's proper jerky made from large cuts of meat as opposed to the chopped & extruded stuff.
Mid-grade stuff from a convenience store is about the same price as what you listed. The reconstituted brands are about half that price. A supermarket will be cheaper than a convenience store.
Good stuff from a proper butcher's shop can be $20/lb. That sounds high but honestly it's not that bad of a deal. It takes a few pounds of meat to make one pound of jerky.
Idk the prices bc I never buy it. You're better off buying an inexpensive dehydrator (30-45 USD) and making your own. Find a few recipes and make small batches of each until you find what kind of flavor you like.
My go-to is low sodium Dale's seasoning with a little brown sugar or cayenne pepper (depending on if I want sweet or heat).
Marinate overnight then about 6-10hrs on the dehydrator based on how thick the slices are.
