I visited Philly a couple of times a few years ago and I had cheesesteaks from Sonny's and Campo's. They were pretty good, but they were pretty expensive for what they were. Can any Philly anons recommend me a good cheesesteak that's near Rittenhouse or Center City or at least close to the train station? I would be usually coming in by train from NYC if I visit again. I'm pretty open and confident with the idea of using the local transit too, if it means taking me to good places to eat/sightsee.
I'm an urban planner/architect here, so I enjoy walking around and seeing interesting neighborhoods and local food/restaurant culture.

I want to buy a cast-iron skillet but I'm trying to find the best brand/size. Amazon has a 12 inch Lodge (which I've heard is best) for $20 and then I can the red silicone handle holder for an extra $5. Is that a good price and a good way to go with it?
>>8931417
>please shop for me
If these threads could die, I might stop kidnapping children.
>>8931417
Yeah, sure.
If there isn't a Marshalls or something like it near you where you can get it cheaper and still new, yeah, go for it. Got a 10 inch Lodge there for $12 and 12 inch enameled Cuisinart for $25.
Honestly, the handle holder I'm torn on. I've always coveted them, but when I use them, I get burned often because I crowd the handle when grabbing such a heavy pan.
Does anyone actually test these before buying shit?
>>8931404
Errytime.
>>8931404
I didn't a week ago and got a jar of peanut butter someone had stuck their finger in
>>8931404
Test what, a smoke alarm? Yeah we do.
have you ever had an oil pizza? basically what it is is a standard cheese pizza but with olive oil instead of sauce. it's somewhat of a specialty of the pizza shops in my city.
>>8931364
It doesn't look terrible, but it does look like a shittier version of pizza.
>>8931364
Sounds terrible
Sounds like cheesey bread sticks
Are oysters alive when you eat them?
>>8931362
Good!
>>8931344
Yes. Unless they're poached, but they're usually eaten raw and alive. For what ever low value of alive those molluscs are in the first place.
Yes
If they aren't you are going to be sick.
Oysters need to be alive if you eat them or cook them.
That's why it's so expensive if you aren't near the coast.
Are any of you regulars? I frequent a local burrito place (think Chipotle/Freebirds but better) so much they they know me by name when I walk in.
>>8931330
I go to a local pizza place about twice a month. They know me by order and by phone number. I like it when places do that because it makes me feel fancy.
whenever I become a regular I Stop going somewhere. I dont like walking in and the people behind the counter start making my order without me asking

I went to a taco joint so much in college they started giving me a free drink every time it was baller
So in response to the >>8930338 thread, I would like to collect info from this board to warrant a sticky that can be updated with various subjects.
From my own pic collection infographics are the easiest way to hit this off, so I will post what I have for general intro to cooking and flavors and hopefully this leads into something decent I can compile later.
Also for the sake of convenience any decent Youtube channels are welcome.
Pretty sure this is the most popular infographic on this board haha.

Things you do in private with your food that you recognize are bizarre or nasty. Not binge eating, though that's plenty disgusting on its own.
>go to taco bell
>order rice and bean burritos
>bite off the end of the wrap
>squeeze the filling into my mouth like a gogurt tube
>take bite of the deflated grainsock
>press the stamp of tortilla against the roof of my mouth
>lick it like a hard candy
>repeat
>eating whatever
>dry mouth
>drink while food still in mouth
>slosh around and enjoy
>when too liquidy, add more food
>repeat until meal done.
>every bite accompanied by drink tastes
So good

When I'm alone I tend to stuff food into my mouth like a degenerate savage and burp as loud as possible.

>Taste Is King
Literal idol worship.
>biodynamic is the new "organic"
Do people who slap on the label biodynamic to food, even really know the farming methods prescribed by Rudolf Steiner? I mean, really know? I'm sure that there are still biodynamic farms out there, but we're seeing a new labeling scam happen before our very eyes.
Not necessarily, Demeter certification doesn't have any specific requirements for the person slapping the labels on the food
Also
>biodynamic
>new
Maybe if you consider a century and a half "new", but most don't
>>8931023
I mean new in the sense that people/brands/vineyards are attaching the label to their product to being the new 'step above' "organic"
Prior to the 2000s. I don't remember seeing any products claiming to be Biodynamic.
>>8931015
My understanding is it's got a lot more practitioners in Europe. In the US, where people have been brainwashed by big chemical for so long and intensively, people are just beginning to understand the value of small to medium sized farm organic produce and meat.
Biodynamic is just an extension of sustainable organic growing practices where moon cycles are given a lot of emphasis. There's certainly a logic to it since even female menstrual cycles are driven by the moon. As an organic gardner, I'm not dismissive, but for me the weather is a much greater consideration on when to plow, plant or harvest than what the moon cycle is.
what can a slow cooker or pressure cooker do that a dutch oven can't?
go in a dish washer
>>8931033
Dunno what you're using but my crock pot consists of a ceramic pot that sits in a warmer. The pot can easily be placed in a dishwasher
>>8931033
people put slow cookers in a dish washer? why not put the dutch oven in there?
