Bought this at the local asian market instead of the american kikkoman shoyu
Tastes way different. What's the deal? Do they use a different process? The american stuff doesn't taste nearly as fermenty and smooth. American stuff is a bit lighter and salty.
I don't think I can go back either way. I'll probably be getting this by the gallon.
Also, soy sauce thread
throw some soy on perogies
dunno why but it works
>>9048457
Soy and gyoza work so there's no reason soy and pierogies wouldn't
Never made risotto. Don't think I've ever eaten it. But somewhere in my culinary closet, it lurks.
So I finally bought some arborio rice.
Steer me towards enlightenment, /ck/.
And thanks.
lots of people make it sloppy. don't. that's lazy risotto.

Heat up a little oil. Cook some chopped onion til softened and a little brown. Add minced garlic, cook a minute. Add rice, cook another minute or two.
Ladle in hot broth about a 1 cup at a time (if you're using 1 cup of rice, prepare 5 cups of broth, you might not use all of it though). Stir until the broth is mostly absorbed, then stir in more. Keep doing this til the rice is done. Stir in a dab of butter at the end and season with salt/pepper. You can also add chives, Parmesan, splash of heavy cream, etc.
If you want, replace some of the broth with white wine.
Hey /ck/ I am going to be potting six jalapeno sprouts pretty soon (pic related). What are your favorite vegan or vegetarian recipes with jalapenos?
Cute garden babies, anon. I like jalapeno poppers. You could use non-dairy cheese if you really needed them to be vegan.

>>9048131
I made poppers tonight at work. An excellent use of excess peppers.

Are you that nouvelle cuisine anon? I'm gonna plagiarize that plating.
I'm about to make chicken soup using the frames I've saved in my freezer. What's the best way to remove all the tiny bones when it's done cooking? Last time I made this I just went through it by hand afterwards but it was really time consuming and a pain to do. I'm just wondering if there's any easy method to do this?
Anyhow, general soup discussion is welcome here too. I like to use a ton of celery when I make my chicken soup. It breaks down so fine that you don't even notice it's in there apart from the delicious flavour.

>What's the best way to remove all the tiny bones when it's done
Invite a person of colour into your house to nibble the flesh from the chicken bones.

I don't get it, that should be what the stock's made from. I guess roast it, pick the meat off, then make stock.
what the fuck are chicken frames
Is there a practical difference between vanilla extract and artificial vanilla extract? The artificial stuff costs half of what the natural stuff does. In my area.
>>9047952
Yes, one is extracted from a vanilla bean.
One is created with chemicals.
>>9047952
Well, let's see... One's made from vanilla, and one isn't. Does that help?
Real vanilla contains all the aromatic compounds in the vanilla bean. Real vanilla has a more complex fragrance due to those other compounds. Artificial vanilla consists only of vanillin, the principal aromatic compound. Artificial vanilla can be had in clear formulas that won't dull the whiteness of meringues, ice creams and such.

Can someone please explain food tubers to me?
I can understand watching recipes on youtube, and I can understand watching videos of talented chefs doing crazy things, but what exactly is the appeal of just watching someone eat food?
>Hey youtube, I'm in a Mexican restaurant in California and I'm gonna eat a taco!
>eats a taco
>"Mmmmmm! So delicious!"
>Hey youtube, I'm in Thailand and I'm going to eat some Thai food
>eats food
>"Mmmmm! So delicious!"
Is there something I'm missing? What's the appeal?
>>9047652
friend and life simulation for lonely people
I find that tubers are pretty versatile.... boil them, mash them, they even work in stews
>>9047652
if you specifically mean ones that eat in restaurants across the globe it is life lived vicariously
if you mean people sharing recipes and how-tos then you're a dumb bebe
Who wants some peetzer?
>go to multiple different fast food chains in different areas of country
>almost all are slow
When did fast food stop being fast?
What should I eat/drink and where while in Hawaii (Oahu)?
I have Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday morning to myself, so I'm hoping to avoid places where I can't just post up at a barstool so I don't look like I'm waiting for a date that didn't show.

When I went there last year I tried to eat as much as possible that I couldn't really get back home.
we stayed in Waikiki (hated it, it's a giant Japanese shopping mall) but my favorite place I went was Steak Shack on the beach by Fort Derussy Beach Park.
They give you meat, rice, and some salad. No frills, just a styrofoam clamshell on the beach, but it was fantastic quality. Actually might be perfect for your purposes.
Our options were limited given our location, but we tried the Rainbow Drive-In which was pretty alright, and a place called Ono Hawaiian Foods down the street from that, both apparently popular with the locals?
None of this is fancy food, all pretty much just simple local fare but I enjoyed it alright. There's one Hawaiian place in my city when I get a taste of the macaroni salad.

Thanks for the tips. I live in a very tourist-heavy area (Las Vegas), so I'd prefer to avoid any chains or anything that I can get on the mainland myself.
Money isn't much of an object as this trip is free.
tired of just frying it up and adding some sauce to make it edible so if you got any interesting tofu recipes please share them here
pic unrelated
Pad Thai
I just fry it up, thin and crispy, and eat it with sweet red chili sauce.
I don't even know why I eat tofu, it makes me feel nauseous every time but that protein and all those micronutrients
there was a recipe I found for tofu with bread crumbs that was interesting. I don't know where it is though.

So do you guys know of any good mini-fridges on the market?
Need something that won't shit itself and die.
i made an eggplant salad which consists of slices of fried eggplant + tomato slices + onion slices + bell pepper slices + chopped parsley + ketchup but it turned out fucking SALTY not like when my mom does it even though i didn't use salt on the salad itself, what did i do wrong? is the amount of salt you put on the eggplant so it could drop its water before you fry it really so important?
>>9047091
>what did i do wrong?
You used eggplant.
>>9047091
you probably cooked it wrong and now you poisoned yourself
