Post cosplays, ask questions, talk about conventions/meetups.
A thing I was curious about: how big is the fanbase in Europe? I would love (randomly) meeting some other fans at local conventions, but everyone in the threads seems to talk about American based conventions.
Group anon/ napstablook maker here, today is the day!
It ended up being too hot for my boyfriend to wear the asriel fursuit, but someone will be sharing a box mettaton so no one stays without a costume the whole day.
I'll dump pictures later if everyone allows it, it's the first big undertale meeting in my country.
I'm filled with determination.
does anyone have a headcanon voice for any of the characters?
most of papyrus's voices are spot on in fandubs or whatever
san's voices? shit makes me cringe. he sounds so fucking dopey I hate it
other things I hate
>toriel with lines
thats not canon, I understand why people are placing them there but there are no lines on toriel's dress like this. if anyone bothered to take a closer look at the colored sprite before making art/cosplay they would have figured that out.
The colour sprite is simplified, perhaps because the lines would be too fine so they were omitted? If you look at her in battle and with the shoulder-up ones, there definitely seem to be lines on her dress. It doesn't look like an outline either because of the neck area and the area of her legs right after the dress.
I prefer Joel's voices for Sans and Papyrus, Asgore, and Mettaton, the Game Grumps voice for Flowey, Bratty and Catty, Alphys and Onion-san, Jacksepticeyes voice for Undyne (although a bit more female).
Can't decide for Toriel, Asriel, Edgesriel, Moffett and don't want to list every minute character.
Joel's Papyrus is on fucking point. There's no way i don't imagine that voice whenever i see a papyrus textbox. Don't know about sans, if his voice was a little deeper, it'd be perfect, though.
like I said, I understand why (because of the battle sprites)
but that's because the image for the battle is black and white
when colored, it would look like pic related.
Based on the pic you posted, I'm thinking we share the same idea of where the "true" outline of the dress is. I picture it kinda like this. (sorry it's shit but I don't have my tablet and I didn't feel like putting too much effort in.) See how the lines are not at the edges? I feel like they would still be there if coloured in.
Same anon that's been replying, but basically don't worry. I'm not trying to argue it, it's just you seem pretty passionate about hating people that put lines when... It's a very common way of interpreting the sprite. Unless Toby specified that there are no lines, I feel like since there ARE lines there in the more detailed battle sprite (but lacking colour) people are going to draw/cosplay her with the lines. There's no reason to get so worked up about it.
here's her on the official steam trading card so it's level 2 canon at least. the fangamer t-shirt doesnt show her robe in detail but it doesnt seem to have lines, so you could interpret it either way
this one seems kind of hard to recognize without tag context
idk anon, i think they could have tried harder
the first thing i would have done was gotten fake teeth like other cosplayers have.
maybe even wear yellow tights to match her non-human body color
if not fake teeth, having something recognizable under the labcoat would be better. aplys seems more like the slippers type than the flipflop type
Searched for ALA Undertale on tumblr. They're a little ridiculous but I actually like this MTT's arms? Better than metallic fabric that just wrinkles.
I was too much of a shy awkward twit to ask for sperate photos, but there were two pretty good Grillby's at the ALA shoot.
i dont understand the sailor suit
paper-mario-wiki is tumblrs favourite mettaton, i think he's a guy.
incidentally its kind of funny that there's so many comics/videos of sans trying to cockblock mettaton/papyrus, when in canon he didnt give a shit when papyrus invited a confirmed murderer into their home
i like the mettaplier voice off game grumps, but it needs more...emotional variation? it sounds way too happy in the genocide route especially.
also this i kind of like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDpdjT9Wbz4
I feel like this Chara would have looked much better if they had used a softer facial expression.
>no face for flowey
Even without the face the arm position looks kinda wonky. At least the sweater isn't shit like most Charas.
Yeah her face just looks fucking terrifying like that
This is me haha. I agree that my facial expression looks like shit. I practiced it in the mirror but as the con went on my face warped into this cringe fest. The costume itself was rushed and I had completely forgotten to make flowey's face before I left. There really is no excuse for how shitty this costume is and I'll probably never wear it again. The knife is in fact fake though. Thank you for the critique though!
ALA Undertale meet was a fucking trainwreck. Host took too long talking and was super disorganized. Clearly, they didn't expect such a big turnout, but it was handled very poorly. It was Homestuck all over again. I hoped for more, but expected nothing less.
It's just too easy to throw together bad cosplays with Undertale. No-wig Frisks who just took a blue shirt they already had and stuck pink duct tape to it. "Sans" that are just a blue hoodie and shorts and nothing else. I'm praying that soon the really amazing cosplays will start coming through.
Asgore and Toriel with the animal faces.
My favorites out of these are:
The Grillby cosplayers.
The Nice Cream Guy on the left in the middle.
Like, two of the Sanses.
Catty and Bratty.
All the Muffets are decent.
Box Mettaton to the right.
Alphys in a trashcan.
Overall, pretty good.
That's what too much fat does in legs...
It's not pretty, and I feel a weird sort of admiration that that person doesn't seem to give a shit, but at the same time, it looks awful, you know?
>mfw my legs started to do that shit at my heaviest
>nope.jpg, diet time
Irish here. Ran into a random Papyrus handing out crosswords at the most recent con. Ran into a Napstablook back in November, and i've been hearing talk of a cosplays group happening in the near future. Not a serious cosplayer myself but I figure if small places like here can have random encounters, anywhere can
Damn, I really like these Toriel and Asgore cosplayers. I'm working on Asriel with a snout prosthetic and I'm hoping it will turn out as good as these ones.
Another Finlandfag here, most cosplays at Frostbite were low effort and sorta shitty, but not too cringy. That's probably because it was a R18 con, the cancer is most likely going to explode once Yukicon rolls around and all underaged kids show up.
I'm kinda interested in knowing what all the other Finnish peeps are working on right now, there seem to be quite few of us in this thread.
Yeah totally agree. It was so difficult to get through the crowd for pictures too. Seriously some people were straight up rude.
Mettaton is charge you really let us down. I'm sorry they gave you guys a terrible mic but holy shit you guys could have tried yelling. I actually think you would have been louder.
I'm doing date Undyne for babby's first cosplay and I'm scared I'm going to look like low-effort shit (ignoring the already low-effort nature of the date outfit).
I like to think I'm selfaware enough judge myself, but looking at some of these it's like "wow they looked in a mirror and decided this was okay."
The one with the yellow face deadass looks like this emoji
That's a good thing.
But it's creepy as fuck. I guess they just really wanted to stand out since Frisk is so easy mode.
And since that picture's triggering my autism, what color scheme do you guys prefer on Frisk's shirt? Pink stripes, purple stripes, lighter blue, darker blue, etc?
I like the blue color of the frisk all the way on the left and the second from the right, and personally Im going for more magenta colored stripes. Not like a hot pink, but a little darker I guess? I dont like straight up purple, but its up to the individual, anyway.
any body found tutorials on how to do undynes pony tail well? I've worked out what wig cap and paints i want to use but not going well on the pony tail attachment yet
dont know whether to have a hole in a cap and a bun of hair sticking out to attach it to or what, or if I used that technique if id be able to just use a wrap or clip in pony tail
Shit maybe I should've gone to Frostbite. I don't really care for the con itself but it would've been nice to meet some older Undertale fans.
Yep, I'm praying that our UT community isn't completely horrible. I'm currently working on box Mettaton, Burgerpants and Frisk but I'm not sure which ones I'm gonna take with me. Probably box Mettaton + one of the other two.
Good luck with your Asriel!
It's a trick fursuiters use, too. I got it from them for my Alphys posted in the previous thread. It's neat, yeah, and helps prevent "dead mascot eyes always looking straight ahead".
Yeah that meetup was a real mess, I could barely hear the hosts, and I have no idea why they thought it was a good idea to do it by location instead of by characters, it created a lot of confusion
>tfw you're in that photo but you're covered up by the boxmtts
>kinda glad because my cosplay was rushed and I looked like crap
alright related to this pic, what's your opinion on lenses for chara. i'm kind of leaning towards scleras (if i can ever afford them) LARGEASS black ones (not scleras), or just red. i'm probably going to go with the large black ones for now since i'm using them for other things but just askin for the distant future.
ALA was fun but the meetup was a mess. I wasn't expecting so many people.
Her cosplay name is niicakes.
If you google search her, you should be able to get her Fb page and instagram. I can't direct post the link; 4chan thinks they're spammy.
Thanks, after the other anon said it wasn't the one I linked I got curious too. Of course in that one video they literally go "yeah Michinohime also did this", kek.
Not sold 100% on the full thing, though. I don't really know why.
It'd look a lot better with full lip makeup rather than the harsh upper lip thing. Her bottom lip is completely gone (although part of that is due to the wild filters)
Also what the hell is with the torso.
Anyone planning UT cosplays for AX?
I'm planning a couple but I'm not sure which ones to bring
Ala was fun but that meetup was so disorganized and there were some rude ass people
did any of you seagulls meetup before the actual meet?
I'm a dude. I feel like doing Sans would just be closet as fuck and make me look like a juggalo. Plus there seems to be like, a billion Sans.
Napstablook done with pale makeup and face paint, with a huge ass sweater, audiophile looking headphones, and some baggy pale jeans?
Might fix up my trashcan and be Alphys again or might be Bratty depending on what characters my friends decide on.
I'm curious about that too. I regret not going earlier! If there was a seagull meet did anyone take pics?
That's the sticky situation. He for sure doesn't want merchandise like plushies and shirts being sold. Anything that can be passed off as official merchandise that is massed produced is a no-no. But commissions are okay? He really doesn't clarify on fanart but lots of people consider it merchandise.
Honestly, I think it could be argued. You should probably personally email him about it and get a straight answer.
I think the catch is mass production. Commissions aren't mass produced, that's why they're okay.
There was another post he made about turning down a licensing offer from Hot Topic because he absolutely did not want mass production.
Conventions, while hardly "mass", still involve selling multiples of the same thing.
I guess he wants Undertale to stay small and personal?
Seriously stop self posting.
Is right you both really need to work on it especially if you guys are going to self post and trip in every thread you can. You guys can improve by getting better wigs and styling them. Get clothes that actually fit. Get a better colored shirt for burgerpants. I'm not even sure what that line or your prop is made out of but use some better materials.
Seeing seagulls like this is really disappointing. We're suppose to know better.
My heart charms have arrived, time to glue a billion of them on a billion pin backs
and also a few onto my hands I'm sure
As someone with experience in CR and legality of production of another's original work, Toby should really consider clarifying what he means by this.
He can't expect every single person to email him and ask if what they're doing is "okay."
He needs to either put his foot down and come right out with the legalities and CR of his ideas/merchandise, or simply let the fandom have free reign. (Which I'm sure a lot of them will any ways)
>I guess he wants Undertale to stay small and personal?
This is ridiculous. Undertale is far passed "staying small." He's either saying this so others don't profit off his idea or... well, no that seems to be the only thing I can think of.
so whats wrong with not wanting people to profit off your shit especially when you've taken a stance on not cashing in on it either?
as an artist save yourself the hassle of wasting time on art/whatever and spending money on supplies and dont do it because you'll probably get reared by fans if you did when its made super clear he doesn't want you to and would stop you.
I'm planning on being Grillby but I have lots of time to kill until my supplies arrive. I can't decide how to approach his fire - the one in the front on >>8839814 used felt and we've all seen the pic of the one that used tulle. Craft foam would be an appropriate choice too, right?
I honestly feel like he doesn't want shitty bandwagon artists profiting from his IP but at the same time if he said "no selling my IP" half his fans would send him death threats because they're autistic tumblrtards.
Well they are friends, it's more like Hussie is advising him.
Although I do see why it's weird. Homestuck was free to.. read. I think it did have some official merchandise but it really wasn't much. Not much profit was made there, ignoring the issue with the game.
So if artists at conventions are making more off Homestuck than he is, I can see the issue.
Undertale has more than paid itself in Steam sales alone.
I can see why Toby's taking after Hussie but he really doesn't need to.
Bandwagon fanartists selling prints are free advertising for his game.
It's silly that he cares. He seems to want Undertale to be something deeply personal and soulful, but it's a furry game full of anime jokes that already has an FNAF-like reputation and mountains of terrible porn and it just makes him look dumb and melodramatic when he talks about how meaningful the game is to him.
having people selling lots of terrible prints and terrible porn makes your characters look super trashy though. Imagine making a game only to see a bunch of people making regretsy shit out of it.
i can kind of see his point. just looking at the mountain of worthless fallout4 merch is enough to make you swear fealty to socialism. i imagine hes afraid of that happening, with good reason
but the games fanbase isn't small anymore, and it's silly to cater to a tiny demographic when there's pretty clearly a ton of demand that will get filled somehow.
He spent a good chunk of time on the game and with the TP ending, you can tell he was going for something emotional. I know a ton of people that cried for this game.
I still think it was the tie to Homestuck that brought the shitty fanbase, but at the same time, you can never control your fanbase. There's always going to be shitty porn.
He mentioned that he wanted Undertale to die peacefully without turning to shit (whoops), his feelings about mass production probably had something to do with that.
Yeah, showed up at 2:40 for cgl premeet and shit was crowded already.
Planning Mettaton Neo for Wondercon, but if that shit isnt't a perfect 10/10 then I'm probably going to wear to AX instead
Omg I can't get over that Undyne! She was really sweet and dealt with all my spaghetti spilling. I kinda regret not posing better I was just in an awe.
Anyways, she made the ponytail around a smallish clip and attached it to her "mini stereotypical samurai bun". She stated that she kept enough hair to make a tiny bun strong enough to keep it up.
I'm just going to post the image here for everyone's ref
>having people selling lots of terrible prints and terrible porn makes your characters look super trashy though
It's already too late to avoid this. I knew about ectodicks before I even played the game. All I knew going in was that you could spare monsters and that everyone who played it wanted to fuck either a skeleton or a robot.
Although it's just a one button row lab coat in the tarot cards. though they do mtts soul the wrong colour
>Frisk figure has shorts, leggings, and black shoes
>Frisk tarot card has just shorts and brown shoes
>Doggo tarot card has Frisk with long pants and purple shoes?
Well I already bought my brown shoes and I dont want to wear leggings (I'm cosplaying Frisk in the summer and it will be very hot) so I guess I'll just stick to the Frisk card design.
Would it be too cumbersome/corny to make cupcakes with arrow/heart designs to hand out as Undyne? Was also thinking of going nuts and doing Alphys polkadots, a bone, yellow flower, sweater pattern, etc. Character themed cupcakes.
It's cute in theory but I'd be worried about people making a mess with them and nothing triggers me more than little shits making a mess. The con I'm going to (Magfest) apparently has a more mature crowd, but I don't trust even older "gamers" to clean up after themselves, you know?
imo it would be too cumbersome and messy. If you really want to do baked goods, maybe cookies? With icing that hardens so you can stack them in a container maybe? No wrapper and less crumbs I guess.
It was discussed in the "have you handed out things on cons" thread, if you hand out food, individually wrap them. No one wants unwrapped stale food, plus there's a sense of security when it's individually wrapped ("oh less chance of it being tampered with").
If you don't want people to make a mess, don't hand out food. Hand out a collectible.
That's a no from me. The tangled Guitar Hero mic should go and what the hell is the armor? The makeup stands out but nothing else matches it. Also god awful picture but it's Travis so expected
Where? I thought that pink goop machine thing in alphys lab was an ice cream maker
just saying its pink in the sprite but white on the card, so it's not like they're 100% canon diagrams
My pants and boots came in. I got platforms instead of stilettos so I wouldn't die walking at the convention, and I didn't like the heel shape on gogo boots that much. I'm about 5'11" with these on, so I'm really hyped!
I'm still so mad that I forgot PAX was last weekend. It would've given me incentive to finish my Mettaton faster /and/ Undertale actually fits at PAX unlike the anime con I'm planning it for.
That's a pet peeve of mine. Even the sprite has a howie coat styled collar. People always go with basic medical coats which I don't blame them, howie coats are kind of a bitch to find and they're on the expensive side. But, alterations are always a thing.
I was glad to have found a howie coat. It really works for her. I wanna get more props but I'm not sure yet on what.
I'm not too much into cosplay, and I'm not trying to say that it's a bad thing, it's acutally quite enjoyable. The Nicecream/Burgerpants was sort of a last minute thing that was thrown together (the red strap is literally duct tape and the wig is meant for Rick). I did like the fact that some people were trying to look for us to take a pic. I'll improve for future cons by taking your advice.
>We're suppose to know better.
I mostly browse /pol/ btw
That wasn't me that self-posted, it was the other guy. Check ID's.
Not them but bruh you're on /cgl/. This board's entire purpose is overanalyzing cosplay.
Nothing wrong with fun outfits that you hash together at the last minute, you just can't post here and not expect to get ripped apart.
Take the advice if you want, or ignore it. I hope you had fun at the con.
Oh I wouldn't go to ~be special~ or anything like that, it's just that my next con is San Japan which isn't until September. I'm worried that Undertale will be Homestuck-levels of con cancer by then.
>This board's entire purpose is overanalyzing cosplay
I'm well aware of that, I lurked onto here, and some of you guys are cruel bastards.. but for a good reason. Even some of the Bernie shills from Reddit that go on /pol/ aren't as cruel as you (maybe because you guys know what you're talking about).
I'll certainly take your advice, thanks.
Undertale meetup at kotoricon, honestly i thought there wouldve been more people
Posing with mettaton. To me at least i thought she was the best out of all of them
But now that i look at it more, its just the face paint thats ok. Also ness tagged along
Eric goes on here every fucking so cal con and spams pics of his shitty ass cosplay. That fact that you are doing the same in the past ALA threads is annoying. No one likes you guys or your shitty ass old memes. That's why no one showed up to his shitty panel at Anime California. Do us all a favor and stop posting until you get better at cosplay.
Frigg off Will you fucking terrible cosplaying cuck.
Tarot cards design?
Found this, problaby from the first day the con was open, cause i didnt see any of these guys when i was there
I got them in the reddish hot pink stretch color.
One thing you should watch out for though is that the boots are tight around the calves. It fits pretty snug on me, but if you have larger calves, it would definitely be a problem.
Just wondering, how did you make your cosplay-trashcan? I wanna do one for a different cosplay, but i dont know where to start.
like, just go to the friendly neighborhood home depot and hop into trashcans until you find one that you fit in and isnt too bulky?
One of the worst mistakes I made when starting cosplay was not wearing wigs and thinking my natural hair could do it if I just used dye/product/ect. It'll look better and you'll be happier with your final result.
Now that I see howie coats I'm considering making one for myself... the only reason I'm using a normal lab coat at the moment is that I paid out my ass for one for college, kek.
For props I've made a MMKC tote bag with the poster image from the lab.
Yeah, so we do have at least one of her with the labcoat. Not sure how canon they are since they were fanart first.
>It can mean a gift but it can also represent a loss, it can augur a bright future or it can also stand for abandonment. My friend considers all of that to be immaterial. To him the most important message is one of rebirth, renewal, and introspection.
Tarot is actually really popular in fanart everywhere. I have to wonder, do people use these as actual tarot decks or do they just buy them and stick them on the wall?
I know not many people would care but the Brazilian undertale meet went pretty good. Many of the people there were first time cosplayers so there weren't many high quality costumes and some were put together last minute, but everyone was pretty chill.
We had about 20 people and we ended up taking over the abandoned homestuck room, since we're hue many stupid pictures and post-event autistic memes happened.
There was this really cute girl as Chara, I think she was really young since she had her mom with her, she was really shy too, but she mustered courage to ask where I got my resin heart. I ended up giving her a extra I had in my bag, it was cool seeing her wear it to the other day of con too.
Nothing bad happened, but no one recognized us either. We made a Facebook chat and I will help everyone upgrade their costumes till the next con.
>pic related, us being dumb
Anon is talking about pic related, pink. If it's recoloured because of the container or not, no one knows.
Thing is, there really don't seem to be any set of canon designs. They change between overworld sprites and battle sprites and official art and it's all a huge mess.
A lot of people just don't seem to like the opportunity to literally roll around in the dust with their costumes. Even for normal weathering.
Gonna be honest, bought a really shitty mad scientist costume for $40 just for the coat and had it altered by a friend since it A) had black buttons and howie styled collar and B) was naturally too big for me because it was "standard adult size"
It works really well though as I do a mascot Alphys and not a gijinka/humanized version.
I looked online first for the cheapest outside cans. For like home depot it should give you the height. After you have a general idea of the one you want I do recommend going in store and just eyeing it to confirm it fits your needs.
I mean you could just go and hop in them but make sure you bring a friend to help you in and out of them. Also try not to give the employees heart attacks.
For reference I got my trash can at Lowe's for about $13. It's about 2 ft tall but works fine since I'm only 5'3".
Also keep in mind that you will have to cut the bottom off so try to get one with a lighter plastic.
>souls are always colored in battle
Yours is, because you're human.
I still go with the theory that the container is pink because Mettaton wants to be human and humans have colored souls.
also, his body is built by alphys who studied determination. his heart is upright same as yours, compared to all the other monsters who have their soul hearts upside down. so it might be coloured pink, but not show up as pink in battle because it doesn't have an attribute.
i feel like the papyrus could have been cuter
undertale characters confirmed for owning several different outfits
bratty and catty
Here, have this shitty drawing I did in snapchat. Would've given you something better, but I'm on mobile so here's the general gist.
I would start with a long sleeve black shirt first. The hot pink are strips of metallic silver fabric. I was thinking you could sew these strips onto the sleeve, but leave it a tiny bit separated, which the blue represents, so you can see the black underneath. I think this would give it a more 'robotic' feel because it would like like the arm is a little separated and could be dismantled into parts.
I hope this helps somehow, I could get paper and draw it out more clearly, but I'm no where near anything useful right now.
Has anyone done Humantale characters yet?
Here's the consensus agreed humanized monsters by the way.
I don't like the way Asgore looks in there. This one is much more better
Planning on doing Sans...but I need a guide to making a mask for his face. I don't want to do facepaint but I have little experience outside of a Pyramid Head helmet I made once awhile ago.
I found some skeleton sleeves but I'm having trouble getting skeleton leggings.
I have Sans' body type so where can I get the general 'bone' outfit from?
Also gonna try to find a proper jacket to mimic the one he has in the game.
Why the fuck would Asgore, a married man, be gay? Out of all the characters to be gay, he makes the least sense. Its like they spun the Sexuality Wheel and just assigned whatever it landed on. This is cringe thread material
obnoxious check suit and heelies
i kind of want to see a mettaton, box or otherwise, do the froggit shirt
I like certain decisions on here (love black Papyrus and Sans) but for god's sake it's OKAY for some of them to be white. There are white people in the world and it feels less progressive to make 80% of them ambiguously brown (or just slap those kinds of ethnicity onto them at random) than it does to just have a balanced cast of all races, genders, and sexualities.
I feel like in a way it's almost racist.
They give everyone very stereotypical and usually pretty exaggerated features based on their race. I don't understand how this is acceptable. I'm not sure what race Undyne is supposed to be but she literally looks like that greedy Jew meme in this drawing.
but one of these stupid hoverboards tho
desu, I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone do a box MTT with one yet
Same-ish? I like the first picture better than the second, but I think the worst part is most of the characters are unrecognizable. In the 2nd picture, I only recognized Gaster due to him being near Papyrus and Sans. And with the first pic, I only got the bunny shopkeeper and nice cream guy due to their association on the picture (ie. all the major shopkeepers were grouped together) Like, that's not good design.
If you wanna diversify your characters, at least make them recognizable. It's the least you can do.
Not really? I usually go here during the summer, and they're usually pretty comfy. I have yet to see any political debates with them, just stuff about meetups and waiting for tickets, things like that.
The tarot cards show Sans wearing blue slippers as well, and there's the blue sneakers on his Steam Trading card of course. There's also different cases of Pap having exposed arms and legs and official stuff without.
I actually kind of prefer that any interpretation seems to be fine, kind of goes with the whole appeal of pixels allowing it.
this kinda thing is so conflicting to some cosplayers, i prefer sneakers on sans i'm not sure why, i think he got different artists to do the merch so that might explain why it differs?
