No, having the body type with skinny legs and a full bust/stomach is the worst. Nothing looks good, at least with a pear shape you can fill your pants and have a relatively trim middle so that you can wear fitted shirts. Even when I'm skinny my ass is flat, my boobs are big, and my waist is wide because the distance between my ribcage and hips is like non existent. So enjoy your pear shape, if could be a million times worse.

I guess it really depends on how plus sized you are anon and what body shape you have. I recently took a chance and bought myself an AP coat and it was even an older item since it had the older style tag. I've always been wary with older AP since I feel like the sizing is a lot smaller then it is now-a-days. But it arrived and fit thankfully.

I am very peared shape however with about a 90ish bust and 80ish waist. But my hips/butt/thighs are big and I always have to go for plus sized leggings. I think pear shape is easier to get away with in lolita where as apple shaped girls have a much harder time

Question: Does anyone else find that strapy shoes like mary janes and t-straps are unflattering on their chunky legs? I am not plus-sized, but, as others in the thread have mentioned, I'm a pear shape, and have disproportionally large legs compared to my upper body. I find that strapy shoes, particularly flat shoes like mary jane flats and tea parties, are really, really unflattering on my legs and accentuate my thicker calves. I guess it has something to do with the way they "cut" my leg off at an unflattering place. I typically wear simple mary jane pumps, as too much embellishment tends to bring attention to this problem area. For the longest time, I just wore ballet flats because, even though I knew that wasn't following the rules, I just couldn't bring myself to wear tea party shoes that a) gave me clown feet and b) made me look twice as wide as I am.

Fantastic Dolly or Dream Sky?

I own fantastic dolly and it maxes out around 88-90cm or so. But that's an underbust measurement. I know this particular cut of Dream Sky wouldn't really be considered plus size. But then again their chiffon items tend to be far larger than actually listed. I know the OP said 96 cm bust, but I have a friend who was 115 cm in the bust and it was nowhere near pulling the shirring and chiffon into oblivion. I was at 98-100cm and it was extremely roomy. Other AP chiffon items I own are like that too, and tend to be the most comfortable. Probably figuring if it stretches too far it'll damage the fabric. Even though I've put on weight my fat ass still isn't close to ripping out of the chiffon like the Hulk.

I was wondering if the JSK was more forgiving than listed. I really like that cut better than the OP. I want to get back to my goal weight and measurements and was wondering if it'd be worth a shot.

I currently have a 32inch waist, which is a few cms out of reach for most of the dresses I like.

I'm thinking about ordering a simple corset from Timeless Trends to lose some inches and overall enhance my lolita silhouette. Has anyone else tried this?

Timeless trends' corsets will actually add to your measurements because they are extremely thick. They are best used for creating a nicer shape, but they add about 5-6cm to your measurements. My dresses usually always have more stretched out shirring with my corset on under it.

You'll probably want to go for a much more expensive corset. I had some sites bookmarked awhile ago that would work, but I forget the brands. They're in the 200-300 price range. Might just be better and more cost effective to just cut back a little or get a monthly gym membership for a few months or something to loose those cms.

Not that corsets aren't awesome. But it's better to be at a measurement you like and can maintain and THEN get a corset then spend a lot on something that will be formed and shaped to your body, then lose the weight and have to get another.

Go hunt down the Jabot version or look for the tote bag and expand the shirring panel in the back a little. (taboo, I know). The Jabot cut goes to about 110 or so. Some people have said 130 but hahaha no fucking way. It's wearable but snug on me at 108 without my binder.

Why do you want to wear a corset? Are you willing to go and wear it for a few months to cinch down to whatever you will need to? Are you willing to spend a good amount on something that will fit you well?

There is also the fact that not all dresses will look good paired with a corset, on top or underneath. Some dresses are too thin, some have clashing waistlines, and if you get into the issue that your rib cage is stopping you, it takes months of waist training to deal with that. Corsets are not some easy go to for being smaller.

In addition to this anon's post, go find a local corseter. They'll be shopkeeping at cons and ren fairs if they don't have a brick and mortar or online shop.
Have a pro size you, which will generally be a couple sizes smaller than what you might pick for yourself.
Remember: If it doesn't have waist tape, you don't want it. If it's not a trainer, you don't want it. If it says it's a trainer and it has plastic boning, you don't want it. If it has plastic anything, you don't want it.
If it looks to good to be true, it probably is.

Fashion styles are also a waste if you want functionality over form.

Please don't use a binder if you're a bigger girl (100+ waist), it makes you look boxy and horrible. Even though my waist is 85 and my bust is 100, I wouldn't consider wearing a binder because I'd be boxy and disgusting. I'd rather custom sized dresses. Though maybe I'm lucky because I'm classic/gothic and don't like most brand dresses.
