It won't. The only way to make curls that huge without shellacking it is to have a massive amount of hair to support the shape (a la the $1000 Rose cosplayer). Gravity will drag the curl downward when it reaches a certain size, unless you use less hair (which would look stringy) or use a base.

i actually am using the rhapsody method (..honestly not going to spend 1000+ dollars on it, though, bc screw buying 65 dollar wigs that arent the right color. im buying quality offbrand ones.) so i think it'll look nice. i did the curling iron method on my last rose wig and it looked nice, but it didnt have the volume i wanted, so thats why im making a new wig.

Good on you for doing the limb enhancers. I've seen cosplayers who have made good limb enhancers use EVA foam, then either cover it with vinyl or paint them. (Vinyl looks shinier like pic related, painting is similar to this >>8821284) And for the fingers: if you still want to be able to partially use your hands, go with the black glove+pvc pipe over your fingers, with the ends capped. If you want them to be truly floating, look into using wire or otherwise attaching them to the end of your arm enhancers.

this cosplay feels so underwhelming. Her wig is fantastic, but she needs to fill in her brows pink and add some natural falsies and eyeliner. She's not ugly, but that style of natural makeup just doesn't suit how over the top the rest of the cosplay is. I tried a frosted spray and this is how it turned out. I'll have to try it on a darker gem and see how it looks but I think it might be better than the clear version? This means I won't be able to make it glossy though (unless anybody knows a way to make it glossy without destroying the frost?) but maybe non-glossy would look better in photos anyways.

What do you guys think?

I really like that Hanari gave her boots extra height. The proportions look really good compared to a lot of other peridot boots I've seen. I wish she'd get her shit together for a real shoot though.

No? Nobody knew that her boots were extenders until she was poofed because they looked natural and like a part of her body. Hanari looks like she's standing on wall stilts in that photo, not like her legs have grown by half a foot. The length of the boots in relationship to her thighs and arms make it looks unbalanced and awkward. Extending the arms will probably help too but god help her if she wears that to a con.

No it's not completely, the gold seams and stuff aren't all on the surface, they run through the stone and you can see that if you look at a chunk of it irl. Anyway, it wouldn't have to be all the way through the stone, obviously you're not going to see things right on the bottom, or even done with gold leaf.

Yeah, local museums are chock full of stolen Egyptian artefacts, go British empire. That's why I'm saying this. The replica gems with the gold seams/inclusions painted on top don't look right, and you can see even in an image that they're under the surface of the stone, not sitting on top.

It always depends on how pure the mineral is. The purer the more expensive they are. Sometimes you only see the pyrite when it glitters.

Apparently we're not, because these are all examples of what I'm talking about. The pyrite sits level with the surrounding stone or is pitted, you can see that it isn't flat under the surface, that it's 3D and extends bellow into the stone. The last example you posted is perfect. It's not a solid gold line, the pyrite is kind of dirty and you can see that there's stone sitting on top of it in places. Paint very visibly sits on the surface and protrudes outwards. I can't explain it any better than that.

But we're not talking about painting on top of a stone - we're talking about laying gold leaf in the bottom of a cast vs laying gold leaf throughout the cast. I agree that you can see more of the depth in the last example, but considering how opaque even high quality Lapis tends to be, it seems like a big waste of money for the output.

When I add the gold leaf it will be throughout all the clay but I'm only going to have a relatively thin layer of clay and then fill the rest with plastic.

The main issue I'm having right now is that I don't like how this method makes the different blues kinda swirl together instead of looking cloudy/speckled like real Lapis so I'm going to look for other things I can add into the clay to fix it. Anyone here have any ideas for how to do that?

How small are you cutting the pieces? I may be wrong, but it seems like you'd get less huge chunks of swirls if the color variation is smaller. They'll still swirl a little because of the nature of the clay, but it won't be as noticeable.

I would totally buy a mini peridot as a phone charm. 2 of the same one sandwiched together with the seam thing around the outside (like Pearl when she's poofed). I need something like this in orange. As for my cast everything that could go wrong did. There's absolutely nowhere to get resin dye in my godforsaken city so I had to improvise with acrylic ink and fabric dye (which didn't work at all), the resin components leaked out of their bottles somehow despite me having sealed them in plastic bags as well and ruined my desk drawer, the mold itself showed no bubbles until three days later when of course it was way too late, and despite trying three times the mold looked like a formless piece of dry cheese.

tl;dr I don't want to have to work with resin ever again.
