Thread numero dos.
How you seagulls getting to the con? Train, bus, carpool? By some sort of jumbo sized slingshot perhaps?
I am going by either train or bus since I hate to drive.
And since this is my first ever con, do most vendors take cards or should I carry cash or both? I hardly and rarely carry cash on me so I want to know what is best.
Cash, always cash. Some do take the little portable card swipe to use with the app. But cash is usually preferred and more convenient at cons.
Im usually the same way. Rarely carry cash but when i go to cons I always take physical cash. Or take both
Soooo I forgot to pre reg for this con as my plans to go happened rather late (still need to book my flight from oregon to cali)
Is regging at the door going to be a nightmare? Can I reg on thursday or only friday morning?
I've been procrastinating on this problem because #nocarlife.
I'm trying to get a qt Korean guy to go, so I can make him drive (and pop his con cherry), otherwise I'll probably take a train to Ontario and Uber the rest of the way.
>Find out this morning that because of high demand and shipping delays, the cosplay items that were originally supposed to ship in December won't ship to me until mid February at the earliest.
>motivation to go to ALA takes huge dive
I don't want to show my ugly face. Think I'll stay in my room and drink.
Sorry for the blog
Con is about 20 minutes away from me so i'll probably use an uber or a lyft since ALA is offering a discount code. Have the badge, spaghetti ribbons and spending cash. All i'm missing is floor space to crash in.
Welp, car just decided to take a shit on me so now I gotta use the money I was gonna use for ALA to buy a new shitbox. I shall experience the con vicariously through these threads.
I missed the last 3 years so I am excited to finally be going back, but it is going to be different not having it all in one place.
I ordered ribbons that say "Sloshed Seagull" to give out to the senpai
I usually organize the meet because I can wrangle all the trips and anons I know. Not too sure about where to hold it, there appears to be an outdoor rose garden photo area at the convention center that might work. The traditional date is on friday, but perhaps the normal time of 9pm will be to late and the convention center will be closing down at that time. Do people want to do it earlier this year?
To the person asking about star wars blasters. Make sure that things got an orange tip and have it peace bonded. I'm sure you'll be okay, just be mindful where you take it.
Don't let your lack of a cosplay stop you from attending and having fun. There's more to do than just cosplaying~
Con center will be open late. There's late night programming taking place and I have a panel that ends at 1 AM on Saturday, that's for certain. Earlier would be nice for me since I've caught the tail end due to AMV contest but I'll make due with whatever y'all pick :>
>Have room with five people at Sheraton, filled three months before con, no stress
>Suddenly eight people?
>Five of those people decide to book their own room and fuck off
>three of us left with three weeks to con
>one roommate is like "oh two friends of mine can get us back up to five"
>The two friends want to know how much it is for the weekend
>$100 for checkin thurs checkout mon
>They decide they would rather sleep in their car
>Three people left, two weeks to con
>The struggle is real
I would ask seagulls but I don't trust seagulls, you feel?
>$100 for checkin thurs checkout mon
desu, that's not that bad. Makes me wonder why do people think they can just skip out on rooming when they are already spending a huge amount on merchandise, gas, food, and time as it is.
Why. Depends on the area. But the area I live in is pretty safe. Closer to the con and the more industrial? That I'm not so sure on.
But seriously, I hate cheapskate weebs who think $100 for 4 nights is too expensive. They probably dodged a bullet if they're okay sleeping in a freak in car during the con. Probably don't have the best hygiene.
>Because people like that would rather skimp as much as possible on rooming costs so they can spend it on weeb crap and overpriced Japanese snacks.
Seriously do you think people like that have a grip on their Priorities . Let alone on their life's. Wouldnt even want to think about being in the same room as those kind of people
Radisson contains Con suite, maid cafe, E-gaming, Tabletop gaming, Manga Lounge, Prize room, and a few panel rooms as well. Odds are it'll still receive decent traffic especially with it being across the street. I'd also assume photoshoots will take place in and around the area.
Give it about 24-48 hrs. This close to con might take a little bit but as long as you have a paper trail between you and your friend you should be able to get your badge even on site if necessary.
I'd really appreciate it if you could keep it at 9pm. The artist alley closes at 8 so any earlier would fuck me over.
I've slept in my car for cons before. My LA Fitness membership gave me a nice warm shower and changing room in most major cities.
I know that some people have been cited for sleeping in their cars during a con though (in a place that they've paid overnight parking for).
So can I register on Thursday for a friday ticket?
>tfw all the hotels you wanted got booked
>even the dirty motel 6 near by got booked
>tfw you have to book at the other motels
>just wanted a nice place to room in with buddies but they all flaked as soon as you asked for their share of the money
atleast I got a room to sleep in, right?
Damn, my room fell through. Guess I'll just be out for the day, kinda kills the party game since home is 30-40 mins away.
I don't imagine anybody has a Radisson room that they need to get rid of, do they?
Or is solo with a room and wants to go 50/50?
>Check booze stash
>only 1/3 bottle of whiskey, 1/2 bottle of vodka, and 1/2 bottle of Kahlua left
Can't wait to meet you seagulls again
Been a while
Except everything is gone already lol
Yo Sci I owe ya one for AC
Is Jameson cool?
I sure as hell ain't going empty handed this time
Nigga how do you even live with yourself at night?
At least get a shitty beater
>tfw ALA has a hotel again for half of its location so it's like the old location but with more room
>pool con is back
no hotels are connected to the con center.
you SHOULD be, but you'd have to show up and pick it up at the con. Online Pre reg is closed.
We had one of our picnics there. It's not a bad park. Not super amazing, but you could probably get some nice shots with a good concept and a good photog.
Yep. Looks like they have a swimming area/water slide too. It's extra. Might be nice if the weather is warm enough. The 10 day forecast says it's suppose to rain, but the days before are suppose to be in the 70's so we'll see how it goes.
Pedestrian traffic, it costs $3 per person, $10 to park your car. I think it's a good alternative for anybody who doesn't want to be stuck getting photos just at the con center.
>mfw finishing 3 costumes for 3 people for the con.
They were so proud of their super basic con party. It was one of my favorite moments of that ALA.
Can't go wrong with that. I am bringing Jim Beam to mix with, so it would be good to have a flaskable whiskey.
I know a few lolitas will be there, Itaqueen probably knows more about that.
What're some quick groundrules/safety tips/suggestions you have for someone going to this as their first con?
I'm not really into the whole cosplay thing exactly as I try and keep my powerlevel (which is pretty low) hidden, but this girl wants someone to go with after she got in a fight with her usual con friends and I'm the only guy she knows who can alter stuff and has watched JoJo.
Basically I have no idea what I'm getting into and while I assume it's all realitively normal for weeb stuff all she keeps telling me is to bring some booze and to fasten my wallet to my person.
Those are good ideas regardless, but honestly if you just go with the flow this is a pretty chill con. Don't expect it to be some sort of terrifying experience that should be feared or anything. Look in the guide and find some things to attend, hang out and people watch if that's what you're into, wear some low-key weeb stuff and talk to other people about this anime shit everyone seems to be watching etc etc etc.
Pretty much a guy named Barry got onto a show where they were looking for people who wanted to look like anime. They told him he was boring so he brought on his friends.
He's fake through the entire show, takes credit for work he didn't do and brings up in the show how he wants to be a efamous cosplayer or some shit like that.
his only claim to fame is that him and three of the members on the show work for a party company that spams the crap out of them
He wants to be a wig designer, but all his wigs look like they've been dumped in concrete or some shit. they are not good
Is dat sum BevMo?
Just stocked up on Jameson, Jager, Midori, Sweet n sour, and Hangar 24 today
check the registration database on the site, if your name pops up then you've got a badge. I had a badge transferred to me and I never received any kind of email but my name is there and I got the little card in the mail.
>he just wants a nice qt straight asian boy that will let him suck his dick.
>not into gay guys
Super excited for this ALA. Can't wait to see everyone again! Finally got a room with a kitchen this year so I'll probably bring some boozy baked goods. For the Lahey from the last thread I have Julian's glass waiting for you! Just find me during the meet up.
>There is a high possibility that you may be working on your cosplay in your room for at least one day
I will be in Star Butterfly, most likely stoned out of my mind
if i'm Hispanic, but i look Filipino, can i still get one?
Im hosting a panel on Day one called con going 101. Stop on by, it's literally all about what you're askin.
Also looks like I'll actually be on time to a cgl gathering at ALA in over 3 years now? Hot diggity! See you all soon
So, so, SO stoked for this! Already have photoshoots set up and everything. It's going to be great!
I couldn't get any ribbons in time, so I was thinking about handing out fake flowers in my Sumia costume instead. I dunno if that's a lame idea, though.
Anyone know if you can get a refund, not transfer your badge?
Some bills hit and if I can get a refund for my badge, I need to play the responsible adult and do so. If I can only transfer a badge, fuck it, I'm going to con.
"Anime Los Angeles doesn’t refund memberships while the member lives. If you pass away before the convention, your family can write to us to get a refund of your membership fees. (Yes, we know it sounds morbid, but it does happen occasionally.)"
Guess you gotta die before they'll refund you, anon. I know there are a few people who missed the deadline and are looking to get badges transferred so they don't have to deal with doing registration at the con, though. That's always an option, even though you said you didn't really want to transfer.
Found them while cleaning. I haven't decided on this year's passprhase.
What's everybody working on for the con right now? I'm working on some idols and a ton link costume. We decided to drop my husband's armor. We're thinking of maybe digging out his old Link costume. It should be pretty cute for dad and son to both be dressed as Link.
Sorry. I didn't mean to come off like I was bragging. I guess I'm just overly excited. I really haven't been able to nerd out at a con in a long time because of money and family obligations.
>I just want beanie to pat me on the shoulder and say he's proud of me
Should be there is 127 hours, more if I camp.
I'm building props, stage props, and finishing costumes, plus prepping panels, events, and more. Holy shitto.
Still have to finish my dominator, and two prints. Shit I can't believe it's in 5 days.
Always funny when you know something's coming but it always surprises you with how quickly it comes. I had a few friends who were confused about ALA because they were doing cons that were a couple weekends before and they kept thinking ALA was the following weekend.
>5 more days
>just started working on cosplay yesterday
I am in this party. I'm like a good 10 hours of work away from getting this damn sweater done. Knittinglooks good but takes so much time. Thankfully my other cosplay is just a sailor fuku and I can bang one of those out in about a half day or so. Just got to stay determined till the end... and probably sleep on the plane since I wont be getting much now.
> about 65% done with main cosplay
> 95% with other two
> haven't touched the wigs
i am feelin it man
My life has become a never-ending stream of beading and bead looming while I attempt to finish this goddamn ATLA cosplay. I can probably do it, but one of the rosette earrings I made to go with my betrothal necklace fucking vanished in the past two weeks and I didn't notice until just now when I started packing. Everything is suffering.
Anon are you trying to give me an ulcer?
>mfw my life right now is Netflix and suffering.
Is there an easy to access pool that anyone knows of in the new location? I'd always bring a swimsuit cosplay for some pool photos to ALA, and it feels kinda weird not doing so this time. I'm in one of the overflow hotels, so that hotel pool is always an option for photos, but I was curious if there's one everyone will just be hanging out at this year like old times.
I posted last thread that there's a park nearby with a swimming lagoon, waterslide, and play area.
So you've got the Radisson, the other hotels(whichever ones have pools) and the park too. So you've definitely got options, but the closest is probably going to be the Radisson.
I'm filling it with automotive body fill, sanded and sprayed it yesterday. Not going to look as good as I hoped, but it doesn't look that bad now. Definitely better than before, but not as smooth as I wanted it to be.
The 3DHub shop I was using was a fucking 9 year old kid on the phone, not sure if he or his father was the one actually running the machine though. Definitely not going to be using that shop again, but they did try pretty hard to get it right, ran it three times.
Awww, I'm sorry anon, thanks for the well wishes!
I just got my ribbons in! Plenty for everyone!
>If you wanna be a bro/sis and help us out with set up and unloading that'd be pretty cool
Yeah, guess I will do that. Will give me a chance to get familiar with the layout too. Cool
Essentially. I gotta do some small end stuff to prep them but otherwise they're done.
I'm still remixing my Masquerade audio and finishing it last minute. Super excited for ALA 2016 Masq!!!
Nope. Still working on it. At least I don't have to have stuff ready till Saturday instead of Friday.
Got my ribbons in, I will be giving them at all weekend to my tipsy brethren.
Ooo. I want a Skullgirl ribbon. I'll be in the AA at table 113.
For all of you asking about that water park/park, i filmed there for a college film project. It's a pretty nice place to go.
Oh man, I want all your ribbons! I'll be in the AA at 305 and can trade you some in return.
Table mate and I will have about 4 different kinds.
Is anyone participating in ALA Idol? I really want to do Beat in Angel but I can't find anyone to do it with. ... gulls?
Packing, with nothing yet packed. Gonna run my change to a coinstar machine for a little extra spending money this con.
I can't find my Star Butterfly mask, but I know it's around here somewhere.
eh, I figure you don't have to be ultra talented to enter. I'm doing it more just to have fun. I might not be able to go on to the finalist round because of schedule conflicts anyway even if I was selected. I just want an excuse to do stupid animu dances on stage.
I got half a sleeve yet to knit and attatch to the body
sew the cuffs and collar for my giffany and make her ribbon
and then pack.
I think I can do it. I'm not entirely sure I can sleep tonight though.
I'm not going until Saturday. I have a pair of wings to make, finish heming my shirt and add the bias tape and lace, also hit goodwill and buy a long white skirt, because I don't feel like making one and there's always long white skirts at goodwill.
That image made me sad so I had to reply lol
It's like a scavenger hunt sort of thing
A lot of the time it's answering trivia but sometimes it's stuff such as if you're wearing a red article of clothing you get some sexy red ribbon (I think this was in 2013)
There's fandom ones too, some people just give you them because they like your costume, and the con itself has them for different reasons.
It's kind of turned into a big part of the con for some people.
Had a little bit of painting to do today and it looks like I'll be doing just a touch of handsewing (ruffling) on the train up, but I'm surprisingly in good shape when it comes to everything being done. Good luck everyone! May your costumes turn out well and hold together.
If you drive up to the street Foothill which is Rancho Cucumonga, there's a AYCA kbbq called Gen Korean BBQ but you gotta drive about 10 minutes to get to it.
There's also an Apple Bee's in that same street so for anyone who is looking for food, on just the street Foothill, there's Apple Bee', Chili's, Dennys, Boston Market, Gen Kbbq, Popeye's, Panera Bread, and a few more places and there's some food restaurants in Victoria Garden. Also on that same street, there's a Target and Bevmo.
Idk if that Gen got it's shit together but I went there last year when it first opened and it was an absolute trainwreck. We waited like 2 hours for our food and they didn't even have all the meats that they usually offer at the other locations. It's possible it was just growing pains but I would maybe Yelp recent reviews before going there.
Also if anyone's up for diner-type food, there's Corky's.
Corky's Kitchen and Bakery? Is it the same chain as the one they opened in Upland by Handel's?
If you guys want people. I recommend ordering from Pizza pirates. They're a small chain but the pizza is pretty good. I think the Ontario East location may deliver over near the con center.
I go there often and it's pretty good so far in my experience and yelp reviews also say it's pretty good as well.
And I forgot to add that there is a Baker's as well. And just for some extra info, there is a Hobby Lobby and Michaels craft store near by on the same street as stated here, >>8835747
in case anyone needs last minute crafting tools or anything.
I'll have to try them some time. I saw the Upland location the last time I stopped at the Michael's.
There's actually a Hancock's fabric there too. The Michael's and Hancock's are almost right next door to each other. Just with a sushi place between them.
I really recommend people try Handel's. They're one of my favorite ice cream chains. There's a Duncan donuts there too.
If you can find the guy, maybe he'll give you your akibaexpo refunds in person at ALA.
There's also another ayce kbbq place that opened kinda recently on foothill as well. Place is called ugrill. It's also on foothill but assuming you're coming from the convention center you turn right on foothill and it'll be on your left right after the underpass of the 15 freeway. The place is a bit smaller and you get good service. They have two dinner menus so you can save like 3 bucks if all you ever eat is the basics anyway.
I'm in that club too. What I wouldnt give to show up to con all rested. Nope, tired but cosplay finished instead.
I'm going to be cruising in around 10 on Friday morning. Do you think there will still be Saturday passes available? Bummed I'll be missing the seagull meet, though. Hopefully I'll see you all around Saturday and Sunday!
>Tfw you're heading to Bevmo for a con-standard handle of Everclear and the excitement hits you
It's been way too long since the last con!
The ones that pop up closest are
729 N Archibald Ave
9280 Haven Ave, Rancho Cucamonga
Marketplace At Ontario Center, 911 N Milliken Ave
The one on archibald looks the closest.
WOOP! I'm going to be bringing unfiltered sake, because it's cheap and delicious. I've never been so excited to get shitfaced in a room full of other costumed nerds!
If you have to walk, this ATM may be your best bet.
>Checks the Anime LA facebook.
>Seeing this post.
Are you planning just to hang with friends and maybe hit up some room parties. Then I say go ahead, if you actually want to hit panels and so on, then you should really try for a badge.
Saturday shouldn't be sold out. I haven't heard about any kind of attendance cap and there's nothing on the Facebook or website about it being sold. You probably can't buy a Saturday badge until tomorrow or the day of.
