Been seeing comments related to these matters in a few threads and I got curious.
How do you treat lolita? Are you a lifestyler? Or do you only wear it to cons/meets? Don't even wear the clothes and only collect them? Buy clothes specifically to resell them after one wear? Are you after e-fame? Do you look down on people who get different things out of this fashion than you?
Tell me gulls, what is your personal "lolita"?

It's the main thing I wear. I do have some "normie" clothes in my wardrobe for lazying around or exercising but everything else is lolita.
I wear it to work, for running errands, meeting up with friends (who are also lolitas) and obviously comm meetups. Sometimes I dress up just to sit around the house too, if I feel like it.
I don't really do conventions, they're too crowded, loud and exhausting so I'd rather avoid them most of the time.
Definitely not after e-fame in any shape or form, and I don't really care what other people are doing (though I do cringe at people who use it for their fetish bullshit and post about it for everyone to see), I just wear the clothes for me as a form of self expression, because they're beautiful and because dressing up like this makes me feel beautiful.
That's it, really.
>>
>>9350282
I'm a lifestyle lolita but more about the aesthetic qualities than the clothes - feminine ornate stuff and I enjoy lifestyle activities. I don't like conventions very much and while I enjoy talking to other lolitas I don't attend meet ups very often as my experiences have been odd to say the least...
I don't wear the fashion itself very often however my daily wardrobe is carefully curated to reflect the things I love. I find the silhouette and rules of lolita too stuffy and repetitive for everyday wear.

Honestly, I would love efame as it would make me feel closer to the community, as I don't use most of the sites the kids these days are using. I'd love to start blogging or making videos at some point in the future.
>>
I don't wear lolita super often, maybe a couple of times every few months, but its a massive part of my life regardless and I take quite seriously. Its not just the clothes but also the lifestyle/subculture aspect that appeals to me. It's my main hobby, I don't have many other interests. My room has all my brand postcards and my mannequin on display, and I've turned my spare room into a walk-in wardroube. I'm goth, so all my lolita blends into to my wardrobe as just 'my clothes' rather than some kind of special name-specific style. I hate when people act like wearing lolita is some kind super big deal, like conlitas who feel embarrassed when their normie friends see their coords, I find it so silly, why wear an alternative fashion if you scared of what people think you? I will never understand that mentality.
This year I want to expand my wardrobe and try and wear lolita once a month at the very least.

Hey guys, so what does everyone think about these 'popular' cosplayers who are just so over the top fake with replies on tumblr and stuff promoting positivity and acceptance within the community and among your peers; but then at the same time talk maliciously on other more private social medias like twitter and stuff. Doesnt it lower the perception of the whole community when those with larger followings use their status to fuel drama and attack people, then turn around and play victim because they're 'oh so nice'?

Because women
>>
It's because they have a popular persona to uphold and if most people knew how negative of a person they actually are and how shitty they treat people who actually get to know them, then no one would actually like them. You can tell the people who are like this because they burn through their friend groups and tend to flock with others similar to themselves. No one can speak out against them if they've been burned by them unless they want the drama to continue in their lives because of the popularity of these kinds of cosplayers and willingness of people to defend them and take their side. It's disgusting, but cosplay is a community filled with narcissists. I don't think most people realize how toxic the community actually is though unless they've seen it happen for themselves.

Looking to make a Deathstroke mask for a cosplay.
I have already customized a helmet for this cosplay, but as you can see in the pics related, it didn't come out exactly as I wanted it. Looking to scrap the first in favor of the second for a few reasons that I can elaborate on if anyone is curious, just trying to keep the initial post to the point.

In pic related, I used clay to cover one of the eyes and the teeth carvings as well as some "battle damage" that was on the original helmet. I did not make this helmet or the mask that I am planning on using for the next attempt.

Post your favorite indie clothing or accessory makers. Self posts encouraged.

If you make stuff, what kinds of stuff do you make? Do you sell it online or at cons? What kinds of challenges do you face? What things you wish your consumers knew about your products? Any WIPs you want critique on?

If you buy stuff, what's the last indie product you bought? What did you think? What part of the experience you liked? Any part you didn't like? Would you recommend the seller to someone else? What items are you lusting over but can't buy for whatever reason?

I haven't made a thread in over a year, so let's hope I'm doing this right...
Let's discuss storage and organisation of our clothing!
Which items do you hang/fold?
What hanger types do you use?
How do you arrange items in your closet?
Which items do you keep "on display", as opposed to in storage containers or drawers/closet?
Do you have a seperate area for your lolita clothing?

I'm wondering how people hang dresses with elasticated straps and necklines.
I have 3-4 of these and I accidentally ruined an older dress by hanging it like a normal OP, the elastic became stretched out. I have taken to folding them over hangers, but they look awful.

I use both in pic related-
Multihanger is for petticoats.
The over the door is for coats, purses, and kigus.
I want a clothing/shoe rack like in the OP pic because I'd love to have my cute clothes on display and away from my normie dark-colored clothes, but that will have to wait until I can get a bigger place.

So I've been into Lolita and Jfashion for about four years now. And something I really never expected to get out of it is a much better understanding of how economy works and what level of power / control I have as a consumer.

So I was wondering... What financial / consumer life lessons have you gotten out of this experience? Out of having to deal with importing from other countries, language barriers, having to make due because of certain limitations, etc?

>For me;
It's taught me that as a consumer in a first world setting I am responsible for how I choose to spend my money. There will always be a better "deal" out there and that when I choose to buy a thing I am saying that that product has reached a standard I am satisfied with. And also that life is random; there is absolutely no way to predict what will or will not be available in the future, so I need to decide on a case-by-case basis if things are at my standard and if a "better" thing shows up later I should never beat myself up over it; because how could any human predict that?

Example case:
>Buy the version of a brand dress I would be "very happy / content with" with this pay period's "fun money".
>The "Ideal / Perfect" version of brando dress shows up on same secondhand site three days later after my package has shipped.

When I was younger, I would have shut a brick over this; but now I realize what I said above. So really, in a weird weird way, Lolita has taught me to be calmer.
>>
>>9348949
Lolita (and jfashion in general) taught me the value of a small, workable wardrobe made out of quality pieces. It also got me into shopping second hand as a sustainable choice as a consumer.

I'm one of those bleeding heart liberal types, whose also really into planning my finances so anything that 1) is better for the environment 2) isn't made with sweatshop labor and 3) saves me money is my shit. I think lolita got me thinking that way.

>inb4 preachy
I don't care what other people do with their money, I'm just happy when I can control where mine goes
>>
>>9348974
Yeah, Lolita taught me also that I was spending too much on fast fashion. I'm not into trends, but I used fast fashion stores for my casual wardrobe and wanting to get into Lolita fashion taught me that I was spending too much on clothing I wasn't emotionally invested in. Why pay $70 for jeans from a sweat shop that I don't deeply care about, when instead I could buy jeans from the thrift store and then use the saved money to own something I genuinely care about?
