January is on the horizon, but it might be fun to get a thread talking about the actual mechanics of building our wardrobes. Feel free to post wardrobe pics/collages as well.
Questions to get us started:
>What jfashion styles do you wear?
>Substyles?
>Is there any crossover between styles/substyles? Or are all your wardrobes seperate?
>What color pallets (if any) do you try to work with?
>What's your budget? Do you buy a few pieces at a time or prefer big hauls?
>Distribution of brand, taobao, indie, etc. (example: mostly brand main pieces with mostly taobao blouses vs all brand all the time)?
>How do you store all your shit?
>Ever sell things, or just just hoard 'em?
>Any general wardrobe building tips?
>What jfashion styles do you wear?
Otome-kei, lolita
>Substyles?
Classic, sweet
>Is there any crossover between styles/substyles? Or are all your wardrobes seperate?
My lolita & otome wardrobes are pretty seperate, but share some shoes & purses
>What color pallets (if any) do you try to work with?
I try to keep things monochromatic in lolita just to limit the amount of shit I want to buy & have to coord. My otome wardrobe doesn't really have a pallet, and I don't think it needs one.
>What's your budget? Do you buy a few pieces at a time or prefer big hauls?
My budget is always otome-first, since that's my daily wear clothes and it matters far more to me. That's also where I let the big hauls roll in. Otherwise, I buy individual lolita items every month or two, usually from Lace Market.
>Distribution of brand, taobao, indie, etc. (example: mostly brand main pieces with mostly taobao blouses vs all brand all the time)?
Otome is pretty much all brand, every day save for some shirts, cardigans and tights which I simply find easier to get in daily-friendly bulk quantities from western off-brand stores. Lolita is a solid blend of brand and taobao.
>How do you store all your shit?
Walk-in closet, bitches.
>Ever sell things, or just just hoard 'em?
I don't typically buy things unless I know I'm going to wear it, but there are a few pieces I may sell at the end of the year.
>Wardrobe building tips?
Do some soul searching before you start buying things. Do you like clean, military styled classic lolita vs frilly Marie-Antoinette lite? More punky larme vs soft feminine? Don't just buy things for the sake of buying them. Imagine all the different ways you want to wear something, and if you have access to the pieces to make it work first.
>>9248088
>What jfashion styles do you wear
Lolita and uchuu kei
>Substyles?
sweet
>Is there any crossover between styles/substyles? Or are all your wardrobes seperate?
I have quite a few accessories that can be used for both uchuu and lolita
>What color pallets (if any) do you try to work with?
pink/mint/brown/navy/ivory are the colorways I try and stick with
>What's your budget? Do you buy a few pieces at a time or prefer big hauls?
I buy as I see things that would work
budget isn't much an issue
>Distribution of brand, taobao, indie, etc. (example: mostly brand main pieces with mostly taobao blouses vs all brand all the time)?
it's 99.9% brand
the exception is usually accessories and shoes
>How do you store all your shit?
I have a room in my house where I store all of my fashion related things
it has wardrobe where I store my absolute favorites that I will wear very often and then a closet where I store other pieces
>Ever sell things, or just just hoard 'em?
I am a terrible hoarder
never sold a single Lolita related item I've bought
>Any general wardrobe building tips?
I have a rule that I have to have seven different ways to wear it right off hand before I can buy it
I have to be able to wear it a different way every day for a week
my wardrobe is pretty big so if I just continued to buy whatever paired with the fact I never sell anything it would over run my house
it's a good rule if you already have a decent sized wardrobe and you want to expand it cohesively
for starting out I would say try and get a few main pieces and double the amount of blouses, but the blouses should work with all the main pieces you have
avoid OPs if you're just starting out
that's a cop out for new lolitas IMO
Is there a blog or website that goes over all the various current j-fashion trends?
So Halloween is over and I need some inspiration for Christmas Meet Ups!
If anyone has any that are Sweet and use a lot of pink I would be very grateful!

Anyone going to the RICC next weekend? Seems like no one on this board lives in this desolate state.
>>9243659
I'll be there, planning Miss Frizzle and probably Minnie Mouse.
It's super crowded and hot, so I try to wear more comfortable Western costumes. I really just want to go meet celebrities and derp around Dave and Busters...
As someone who lives in the desolate state, can confirm no one else lives here.
I went last year and wasn't thrilled. It seems so sloppy and ill-executed for a "big name" convention. It has some nice celebrities if you're willing to wait for way too long, though.
Sup, I'm gonna be there with my buddy. We're just tooling around, shake some celebrity hands. Very cosplay light.
>>9245169
I'm also the OP from this thread.

Aliexpress a great alternative to ebay, and small order alternative to Taobao.
Note:
>Makeup, sex toys, food, and things that go in/on you aren't guarenteed to comply with safety standards
>You won't be able to claim compensation on Aliexpress if products harm you, use your discretion.
>Electronics? Visit >>>/g/ and search for /csg/ and ask your questions there
>Large Order? Check out the Taobao thread
>Ask questions and buy at your own risk. Stay savvy!
Anyone have a good seller for cosplay?
>>9242490
Costume? Wig? Any specific franchise?
>>9242490
Really depends on what you want, just "cosplay" is too vague. But maybe try UWOWO?

How much do you guys value your network of other local artists?
I started tabling this year, and made a pretty successful start compared to others in my country. I get the feeling it's because I researched a lot more than others have. (I lurked here a ton, thanks for all the tips guys.)
Except now everyone is asking me for all my resources while I hardly even know them. They're my local artist network so I don't want to blow them off and make enemies, and it would be nice to have friends in the AA, but at this point I feel like they're using me more than anything. Should I even bother being nice to them?
>>9240504
Be nice and professional because buying yourself enemies early on isn't going to do you any favors - especially if later you find yourself looking for carpooling, hotel sharing, group orders, etc. But you don't have to spoon feed them, either. Polite but short and nonspecific answers are totally fine if you don't feel like going into detail.
>>9240520
Oh yes, of course! I wasn't planning on being a dick. No idea if they're even aware that what they're doing is kinda rude, but I'm not looking for any drama so staying polite is the least I can do.

I think I've finally made my cart. Been working on this damn order for a month now and it's hard just sitting here not having anything to do until hopefully sale prices start showing up tomorrow/tonight or whenever it's technically 11.01 in China.
What does everyone else's carts look like so far?
Does Taobaotrends do singles day orders? Do I just tell them "I want this ordered for 11.11 sale" in a note or something?
LOL these guys cosplayed Wii Fit Trainers using morphsuits for Halloween, sacrificed ability to pee while drinking at a club for a chance to win this contest lol throw some likes and comments at these guys

Get in here, kiwis.
Thoughts on the event and its cosplay welcome. Or just dump pics.

Cosplay is definitely more mainstream now. Event in general seemed to be appealing to a more mainstream crowd too. Cosplay comp and stage were awesome.
What's the deal with all the supposed reports of bullying/harassment? People just being 'softer' about it now, or is it actually getting really bad?
>>9232619
The Jack Sparrow was as bad as people are saying. I can verify that. Not too sure about others but with the amount of new people coming in with no real idea of conventon culture each year the crowd is getting worse and worse so it's likely not only people being sensitive.
Okay kids, it's (almost) that time of year yet again!
Time for another good ol' /cgl/ Secret Santa!
If you've never participated in an online Secret Santa before, it's pretty straight-forward:
>Fill out this handy form!
>Your details are sorted into groups and matched off with other anons.
>You're given your list of matched Santas with their name, address and a list of interests to choose their gifts from.
>At the end, everybody ends up with some awesome gifts and that warm, fuzzy feeling inside from being excellent to eachother.
>The Google forms link is:
dnhIrorfHyziqDIu2
The deadline to sign up is the 6th of November.
I'll try to have everybody matched by the 13th (Hopefully sooner) and that gives everybody a good five weeks to find the perfect gifts and ship them out.
Don't panic TOO much - A late gift is better than no gift at all!
And if you can't get the Google forms code to work, email for the link. The spam filter is way too strong this year.
>It does say 2017. I messed up.
Link didn't work for me. Try pasting the full thing with periods swapped out for commas?
Thanks Seagull Santa for organising this! I've sent an email to request the link.
Now that I'm more familiar with ordering from Taobao, I hope that I'm able to provide better gifts than I have in the past.
You Can (Not) Trap Edition
I'm gonna be making rei's black plugsuit from rebuild. Any advice on choosing materials?
>>9227224
don't you have to actually somewhat pass to be considered a trap? his face is really manly, the only feminine thing about it is the 900lbs of makeup caked on
>>9227224
I understand that you didn't get as much attention as you hoped in the crossplay thread, but this won't do you any good.
I'd recommend the trap threads on /soc/, you are cute by their standards.
/cgl/ has a tendency to give their best to contain crossdressers in the two respective threads.

How should I go about making Sonic Man's helmet?
It's neat seeing all the retro stuff in the "classic" thread, but all of those outfits would be in the bad cosplay thread if we saw them at a con today. Let's have some classic/retro series characters made with more modern skills and styling.
Sorry if pictures are for ants, I'm on mobile
Not only the best cosplay I've seen for this series, but literally the only one.
Are we die as a j-fashion? I was honestly hoping for a resurgence once the Fall/Winter colors and jackets started coming back
Gonna get the conversation rolling with pics of some of the new Leur Getter and ETC releases. What do people think?
>>9216259
I love that book print but wtf is that lacing on the side, it kills it.
>>9216259
I think ETC has been improving again, the strawberry print is cute.

I have some questions about Supanova if anyone could be lovely and answer!
1) What happens on the Friday? Is it worth attending the Friday at all? I heard someone say Friday is good if you are a cosplayer to network and meet photographers etc but I have also heard you just sit in a room ( is this true..?)
2) Is it really worth going all three days? Or do people do this so they can show off three different cosplays? I am tempted to make a third costume if Friday is worth it.
3) What day should you wear your best cosplay?
Kind of annoyed at how PAX AUS haven't announced who's attending yet. I want to know who is doing panels and who their musical guests are
I wishwe werent so far away from the US, I'd love for Wizards of the Coast to have a booth....or for them to have an Acquisitions Incorporated live show
>>9201124
I hate how PAX is so expensive and yet you don't know shit about it until it is almost sold out
It's been quite some time since we had our last Brolita thread.
Can anyone recommend some blogs that aren't dead or deleted/password restricted and held somewhat up to date? Maybe even with a gothic focus?
mechaoctopi on tumblr has been posted on here a few times and there's also skeletonmajesty, but i don't think either have posted anything recently.
>>9200106
Well that's a pity. It seems like the gothic substyle isn't very popular among brolitas at all. But why?
