Actually a mill or so will get you a pretty balla house in basically any metro area except the Bay Area, LA, and New York.

After taxes, it'll probably be closer to about 700k. Spend 100k on a very modest home somewhere cheap, invest the rest, and NEET it up for awhile

Houses themselves are very rarely worth over 100,000 dollars, you usually pay 5x the price for location.

In the south, 500k will put you in a legit gated community.
