I typically pick based off firmness and smell, sometimes color enters the equation and breed/marks always are in the air. This ensures I always get the freshest onions and apples when I go grocery shopping
And also, contrary to popular belief, knocking the fruits/veggies tells you hardly anything about the produce.

Most of your time should be spent reading the company accounts, working out whether they actually make money, what debt levels they have, whether the operating cash flow is positive or negative; then comparing it to its industry peers/competitors as well as the wider share market.
Make few, decent sized purchases per year after having done lots of research, instead of many small reactive and speculative purchases based on whims and looking too long at share prices
In fact the share price by itself is almost totally meaningless.

Idk man but you prolly want to be reading their quarterly reports.
