Hey /biz/,

I'm currently in a tough cookie situation as to picking the ideal candidate for my company. There are two final candidates to consider, and I need advice as to which specific candidate would be the most optimal for the growth of my company.

A little bit of context:

The company I work for is Food ABX, and what we essentially do, is sell an opulent amount of food to many of our distributors.

We've recently opened a branch of our company out east in the country, and in that particular branch, there are currently three Food ABX representatives: 2 (45 yo) representatives that deal with the "push" aspect of our company (which is to directly sell to new or old distributors--they deal with the distributors directly), and the other employee specializes in sales, not to distributors, but in other retailers, restaurants, street vendors, etc..

The "hard" part:

After conducting numerous interviews, the process has come down to two finalists:

First Candidate:
- 61 Years Old
- Has worked 30 years with Kraft
- Has extensive experience selling to restaurants, retailers, etc.. (specialization around the east end)
- He was cut from his old job because of job cuts (he was among the first because of his age)
- Has a huge network
- Asking 50k (+25k bonus) = 75k
- Veteran in the sales book

Second candidate:
- 25 years old
- 5 years of experience within this domain
- She worked for one of the biggest distributors (good client, and is known throughout the distributor world)
- Specializes in internal sales (takes calls, and orders. Order specialist)
- Asking 32k (+16k) = 48k
- Energetic, pragmatic, and enthusiastic

It's odd that I should be asking here, but in reality, I have no idea how to select the ideal candidate in this case.

Would you rather select the one with more experience, yet old? Or the other way around?

The one with a penis.
>>
>>1083712

In all honesty, does that mean that the one with the bigger network and experience is usually the right one?
>>
>>1083708

YOUNG MAN
>>
>>1083718
Yeah, if you like money
>>
>>1083708
oldy won;t give into pressure as easily
>>
>>1083730

But the fact of the matter is that, he'll only work for 5 more years until retirement. But he'll definitely guarantee "success". Whereas the younger applicant, can strive and grow with our company.
>>
Old guy. He ain't retiring anytime soon, trust.
>>
>>1083725

Why would you pick the younger person?
>>
>>1083708

Tough situation desu. I think I need more information. How did they interview?
>>
>>1083708
Or work for 3 years and jump ship for hire wages. This aint the 70's bro kids arent dumb today they know how to play the game
>>
>>1083797

There were three sets of interviews. They've passed all of them (through a basket of 97 candidates). Both did very well in their respective interviews. Old man, seemed more veteran, knew the game well, can easily grasp hardships because of experience and is a closer. Younger person is essentially a young and new person, looking to step up into the sales world, enthusiastic, ambitious, always ready for challenges.
>>
hey choose the women because she is dealing with clients directly and because she is a woman she can be more persuasive with men. Even tho she has no experience she can ask for tips from you other two representatives. the old dude is old even tho he has experience he is just wanting to get more money before retirement. even tho he is old and may die or go crazy anytime. but be careful with the be one because she can fuck up your business if she commits an error.
>>
>>1083783

IMO hunger is more important than experience, and younger people are easier to manage and you can pay them less.

I think old dog experience is overrated. The ONLY benefit of someone old is if you are selling to old people and they want another old dog they believe they can trust.
>>
>>1083861

I'm getting a feeling that the best choice is the younger person because of salary malleability, and growth outcome potential
>>
>>1083861

Fair points. But what if every employer had your mindset? How would people be able to work long enough in order to have a decent retirement (disregard FIRE and that kind of stuff)?
>>
>>1083877
Except youll spend money training them and have them jump ship with contacts and experience in a year or 2
>>
>>1083923

And so the best selection at this point is the older gent? Since of course, the younger person will inevitably jump ship (and that the older person will jump ship, but while forgetting his experience, and network on deck)
>>
>>1083708

The older person has more experience. But I'd wonder how long he'll stay on the job. 61 is awfully old to work a job with any sort of stress.
>>
>>1083979
Until he retires. So guaranteed performer for 5 years instead of mediocrity for 2 to 3 until youngish jumps ship
>>
>>1083909

ehhh, the pendulum swings back and forth but IMO the youth is getting fucked right now.

Besides any person over 50 who has worked in a given field for some time, it's their turn to start a company. Hedge their own dynasty.

And besides there will always be speciliazed positions that require a person with decades of experience.
