Wanxiang: the company currently is engaging in a number of activities relating to pushing blockchain tech forward in China out of its base in Shanghai, particularly including the research/education non-profit Blockchain Labs and the VC fund Fenbushi. Fenbushi is in the process of making some substantial investments into Ethereum startups which will be announced soon; the non-profit side will have some interesting stuff announced soon as well. I'm involved in both of those groups (and am spending a lot of time developing out the ethereum ecosystem in China generally).

Fenbushi was given 50mm dollars to invest and Vitalik is a GP. I bet they're going to dump a few million across the whole ecosystem. They already bought 500k worth of ETH.

Daily reminder that this magic money is a pump and dump and will be the next Darkcoin/Doge/Ripple/Litecoin.

The exact same arguments used to support this were used for those.

Don't get shilled into buying this shit.

I prefer the threads about ethereum started by haters. They usually turn into far better shill threads with multiple people popping up mid thread to ask how to buy.

Thinking of doing an ETH giveaway thread. Get people hooked on that sweet sweet ether by giving them $1 worth.

or if you feel confident in the coin, buy it for the offer price

dont rush dont feel pressured

watch the markets lurk, and dont panic buy or sell

According to coinmarketcap XEM/NEM has a market cap(total value) of $5million.

NEM/XEM has a total coin supply of 8billion 9hundredand99million9hundredand99thousand9hundredand99.9

And there is a little star next to it which indicates a significant premine. Which means that the developers/founders own the vast majority of the coins.

This allows the price and marketcap to be manipulated from central command like a puppet on a string.

Anyone investing in NEM/XEM should be aware of these facts.

No amount of Kek posting can change the fact that this is a japanese coinscam for noobs.

>total coin supply (and growing) 8,999,999,999*

>Market capitalisation $5million

>*significant premine

For Ethereum to increase in price it takes thousands of actual traders and tens of millions of dollars worth of actual trading.

For XEM/NEM to increase in price it only needs the developers (who own most of the coins thanks to their premine) to restrict the supply on the market and a couple of bots to trade back and forth on a couple of exchanges. (And a few noobs and clueless shills who will get dumped on)

ETH is bitcoin 2.0 basically moon guarnteed. Bitcoin has run out of steam pretty hard with no chance of moon from here. Bitcoin halving is already priced in. All we will see at halving is miners dropping out when price doesn't increase as expected.
>>

I'll just go 50/50 ish, can't really go wrong with that

>>1075828
well, it depends who you ask.

there was a few factors (like cyprus) but it was the $10 to $266 pump.
>>
>>1075835
That pump was caused by at most 8 or 9 futures traders based in a small area of north london

Source: I know some of them.
>>
>>1075843
Like I said, there was a few factors.

China, willy bot, cyprus, halving, london/NY traders.

I'm pretty sure it's a combination of them all adding to a huge fire of FOMO
>>
>>1075848
Confirmed for not being in BTC at that time.

Cyprus didn't happen until long after that pump

Willy bot didn't exist at that time

No one was talking about halving at that time because people weren't looking desperately for a reason to cling on to for hope.

I lived it man, I was there. You're talking codswallop.
>>
>>1075718
You have the right idea but the price has to drop much further before it's a good buy.

I sold my BTC for ETH a week ago and I won't be buying BTC until it goes below 200.
>>
>>1075858
Oh boy here we go

>Cyprus didn't happen until long after that pump
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012%E2%80%9313_Cypriot_financial_crisis
>2012-2013
To be precise, I remember reading almost every news agency explain the runup of early 2013 to be 100% entirely based on Cypriot debt crisis

>Willy bot didn't exist at that time
Yeah, fair enough, 'Willy' was the next pump.
I do remember reading that there was other large dubious pumping bots throughout the majority of 2013 though, Marcus I think if I remember right.

>No one was talking about halving at that time
People were talking about it the whole of 2012, and as soon as the August pump found a bottom people were getting hype as fuck about it.

>I'm the only person who was there xDxD
Kek

>>1075863
Yeah, similar to what I did. I can see us dropping to 320 - 300 in the next few days/week but I really doubt more than that.

The honey badger does what it wants though eh
>>
>>1075872
Ok, i was wrong about cyprus. But at that time my feeling was that cyprus was just something people pointed to to sort of justify why the price was high.

Some sectors of bitcoin are always desperate to set bitcoin up as some sort of safe haven in harsh economic times, kind of like gold.

I personally don't believe macroeconomic factors have as much effect on the price of bitcoin. I think bitcoin price is more affected by the popularity of chinese research chemicals and the street price of methaphetamine in the US.
>>
For example bitcoin prices have not gone to the level they were at since silk road was busted.
>>
>>1075886
Yeah, totally right about Cyprus. I'd blame the media to be honest, they painted it like it was fully the reason.

>>1075889
Yeah, the silk road bust was sick, biggest bear trap I've ever seen in my life.

Anyway, about the halving. If anyone is curious about what's probably going to happen I think the litecoin pump from last year is a good guess
>>
>>1075900
Nah, i think it will be a bulltrap. A slight rise then a crash when people realise the halving was already priced in.

ethereum will be snapping at bitcoins heels at the same time so from where i'm standing i'd rather put all my money into ethereum.

Normiefag here

What is the point of Etherium anyways? I though the big hype was all about decentralization, so using a lot of PC's as datacenters so the network is anonymous and diverse and resilient

Sounds like data security is what it really is then. But a lot of people couldn't be fucked to care about the fact that their Tinder, WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat etc data goes through the main big pipe

sry bad formatting
>>
>>1079900
And your point is?
>>
>>1079900
Really it's not for things like "Oh the government is going to see my cat pictures"...

It's more for "Let's host a website that lets people bet on things like the next school shooting" Without anyone being able to take it down or do anything about it.

Or more positively:
Let's use Ether to create incorruptible, unlobbyable democratic processes.
>>
>>1080069
You can use augur for crowdfunding as well. It's a really interesting app with diverse applications
>>
>>1074667

>>
>>1080069
>>1080207

Sounds like a slightly more Kosher version of the Darkweb (TOR)

Like instead of having to go underground into the TOR network, the Etherium powered apps and websites will be on the clearnet but untouchable

I can see things like:

journalist records, writings, footage etc
Silkroad 4.0 and other drug dens
Betting sites (including the school shooting you mentioned) on a variety of things
PDf's on how to make illegal things like weapons

being the vast majority of it. I'm not sure if all of the normies will appreciate it as much as we think they will.

If what I said is not grossly mistaken, I have a hunch Etherium won't be as widespread as many think it will
>>
>>1080569
Depends how simple to use the client is. Setting up TOR was already too complex for many.
>>
>>1080569
Wow that would be fucking horrible considering what we learned from Snowden. The NSA has cracked almost every single cryptographic system in use today. If it's digital, it's not incorruptible. If Silk Road was a honeypot, this is a fucking honey truck.
>>
>>1080681

Pretty much nobody without some technology acumen had any idea what TOR actually was. Sounds like it needs to be as simple as downloading an app from the app store, plus a metric ass ton of advsrtising to really pique the interest off the masses. Oh it has to be shiny too and attract women

>>1080693

Seems like almost everything is a honeypot nowadays. The concept of decentralization will no doubt have demand, but I think the average end user won't bring the bulk of it.

I think those who have things to hide, a lot of smaller businesses, some blue chip companies will be first in line for this

>snowden
I read that as Sweden haha. Snowden's heroic efforts were news with the normies for a couple of weeks.

The biggest problem with the current year is that people (not just younger millenials) are honestly willing to sacrifice some of their freedums / privacy for convenience and cheap entertainment. People even my parent's age, late 50's (I'm 27) are starting to act like milleniais with their faces glued more and more into their iPhones and participation in shittier movies such as the newest Star Wars. The market has obviously shown this.

I have my master's in a field unrelated to Finance, but I'm finishing a commerce degree atm. A lot of my professors are really unsure of ETH's use, and are skeptical at best
>>
>>1080569
The intention is to use Ethereum for disintermediation/automation and things that are supposed to be transparent and open like bond/stock markets. It's not meant to be le dark web 2.0. Although, it may have some shady corners like any widely used technology.

It is supposed to act as a public record AND always-running service for things like real estate deeds, financial markets, boardroom governance and internet of things.
>>
>>1080738

>Transparency

Is that a major improvement on what's happening right now, outside of politics and journalism?

Is this going to be a tool that draws more investors to be tempted to time that market because of faster available information and less insider trading?

>Dark Web

As you said, it probably will harbor a few shady sites. I'm willing to be there's going to be fierce competition amongst drug and gambling sites that will be popping up

>Internet of things

Not sure how revolutionary this actually is going to be. For example, a lot of people probably don't give a shit about the history of songs/notes played or the people who sat in front of a piano wired up into the IoT

All of my apliances work fine. I don't need Twitter updates on my dishwasher or Fridge. I have 4 sports channels, CraveTV, Netflix hooked up to my TV. Switching channels takes a couple of button presses. I don't need to read news on it, becuase I have 3 safari bookmarks on my iPhone's Safari broswer

I get my Hockey pool updates on a coule of iPhone apps. I get updates on what bands are playing at which venues on which days from another App

I have a standard programmable thermostat, I don't need no Nest

TLDR I don't really have a need for my stuff to be hooked up to the IoT. It really seems like novely thing, which doesn't make things that much easier for the average consumer. Even at the Consumer Expo, a lot of companies were getting worried that upgrades in their appliances were more for noevly and not making a difference in terms of energy efficiency, or convenience. So unless the novel things are convincing enough through smart marketing, a lot of new tech will flop.

>Automation

I have no idea how ETH is going to aid automation. Google results just point to articles saying that there will be automation of contracts. Buuut is the lack of human evaluation before both parties accept a contract really a good thing? Sounds like a lot contracts will be breached,

There's a technical difference between TOR and this.

TOR had websites just like the regular web. It just doesn't have any way to 'find them' and forces users to go through tunnels and proxies before connecting to make them anonymous.
The end website can still be compromised by the FBI. (As it was).

This thing is more like bit-torrent. Every computer on the network has it's own copy of the program/website that it's validating against every other copy (similar to bit-torrents peer system).

If any of the copies do something their programmed not to then it's excluded from the network until it re syncs.
It's completely decentralized. Once the program is released onto the network. Nothing, not even the creator can do anything about it. Only the program itself can stop itself if it was programmed to.
>>
>>1080761
IoT is more than just bringing social media onto random objects.

The best example I've seen now is what if you could 'lock' things like bikes or garages. To undo the lock they have to pay a certain amount of bitcoin or ether into your account.

Toll gates that work on ether/bitcoin and directly take from your account.

An app on phones that let you do 'quick bets'. You and someone else bet on something, you both define a trusted third party to provide the confirmation that it happened or not. And you can bet for ether or bitcoin. On anything.

Objects that track their own history.

There's probably a lot of applications we haven't thought of yet;

>>
>>1080822
>>1080837

I like the system, it basics seem pretty solid to me. Still a bit hung up on the benefits, asides from the decentralization part, which I really like as well

>toll roads / locks

Things like public transit fare boxes, rent-a-scooter bike locks, public storage locks etc. are having things like GO cards, or flash enabled interact at the POS. Doesn't the current banking systems have a nice practical foothold on fiat money already?

I could see object history being important, but only for things that are used by a lot of people, or equipment for a small business

The betting systems sound pretty lucrative to me tho. Sounds like taking gambling and using it for everything. "Hey bro what time is the bus going to come to a stop here in front of us? I dunno, 5 mins or less. Ok I think 5 min 1 second or more. K, Ill bet you 3 Ethers"

There could be a super version of liveleaks too
>>
Also, would there be an "Ether credit card" or something physical that a person would carry with them on their person?

Or would it be strictly confined to a dApp on their phone?

Luckily the ethereum system fixes some flaws in that regard

no doubt its a pump and dump, but btc was also a pump and dump at $3, $100, $200, etc.

question is, can you get out in time

I don't think "pump and dump" means what you think it means

Hi guys

I want to move my Eth off an exchange to my wallet. Does the value of the coin matter for when I'm transferring? It's just a straight 1 to 1 transfer right? Excluding transfer fee.
>>
How much ETH does /biz/ own? I am currently sitting on 100
>>
>>1086269
No
>>
Where is the best place to buy ETH?
>>
>>1086276
More than you.
>>
>>1086269

What's the advantage to having it in a wallet over an exchange? I was planning on leaving it in Kraken. Is that not a good idea?
>>
>>1086276

I'm holding 700 ETH.
Is this enough?

I bought in at 90c.
I'm regretting not getting more, but bank transfer for more BTC will take forever.

I'm confident that once the Chinese exchanges start trading ETH it will explode even further.

Should I dip into my savings account?

How much do I need to hold so I'm on board to the moon?
>>
>>1086474
>700 ETH
dude you're literally holding $700,000 USD is 2018 money.
You have plenty but by all means buy more

Even if this would ever reach $1000, that's not enough for me.

I wanna fucking retire on this, have 6 beautiful children and stop being a wagecuck forever.

This investment made me discover my Jewish side

>>
>>1087521
