Well, you learned a lesson.
You drill for oil before you build an oil well.
You should have calculated all this stuff, cost of goods, overheard, cost of customer acquisition THEN you make an app and a website.
Before you spend money, DRILL!

What kind of subscription? I immediately think magazines, which would go via USPS media mail for much less than $5.
But if even fairly-priced CC processing like Square kills your margin, you really need to rethink part of your plan.
