How do you negotiate the price of things to get a (more) favorable outcome, /biz/? Whether it be gym memberships, cars, buying used items online, buying used items on craigslist, etc?

Know the fair market value. Be willing to walk. Always let them know you have another offer (whether or not that's true.)

Yeah I've noticed the tines I got the best deal where when I literally didn't care because I knew if I waited 10 days max I'd sell the item for almost double, which I had done 10 times prior which made me very confident.
But outside of that I usually fall flat on my face negotiating. Is it just a psychological game and I should be able to say no and stick with it? - even if I may not have many other options?
also for cash sales like cars and expensive stuff, just bring cash upfront, about 10-20% less depending on the item, and wave the cash. it works on desperate sellers

"I-is there any other way i can pay for this pizza? My husband is away and im out of cash" is my usual move.
