I want to be rich(er) because there's nothing I love more than making money. I've sold an app and 2 separate websites and every time I get a big fat check in the mail in exchange for something that didn't exist a year ago it's like a drug. I don't have much knowledge of finance, in fact, aside from my intention to pursue a higher degree in finance (sophomore right now), I can't claim to have any sort of knowledge besides the basal understanding of mechanisms that you would gain from an associates.

But I've been really poor. It's terrible. It's awful. Imagine how terrible it is to not have a home, food, warm shower, and then imagine these things exacerbated by the anxiety and stress that is inherent to the issue.

So, to answer your question, money is undoubtedly a partition insofar as happiness is an amalgam of factors.

Some people require more, some less. What's more important is your relationships with your family and friends, how much time you spend doing things you enjoy, success at work, et cetera.

Knowing this, it's not unreasonable that the people here are more career driven people who derive satisfaction from earning money. Things like mathematics, probability, and risk make them tick.

I know that's how it is for me. You may interpret the chase for capital as a vacuous, unfulfilling pursuit for borderline sociopathic, greedy louts, but for me it's part of the happiness puzzle. Numbers, data, and finance are an enjoyable topic; it's fulfilling; it's a part of the puzzle that's never been filled in by my past -- the ability to live a comfortable lifestyle -- in luxury, even, without stressing all the time.

Those are fashionable interesting hobbies I am sure, but I don't really give a shit about them and I would still have to work a regular 9 to 5 on top of it to support myself.

I hate to use this meme but I want my vocation to be my avocation, I want to roll my work and my hobby into one. I enjoy embracing reality, objectively this makes me superior to all the hipsters who follow their dreams and study sociology/psychology/literature/drama/whatever in college because you can achieve more in the real world and because I can "get into" things instead of just letting my passions blow me into autistic fantasies. Instead of letting life's trials and tribulations get me down I view them as a challenge, a contest, playing on hard mode. I am not more stressed because of this, I chose to do it and I can choose to stop, then a while later when I am not so moody I can look back, wonder why I made such a big deal out of it, make a fresh cup of coffee, help myself to a slice of cherry pie and start again.
