New York isn't Manhattan. Most people in New York do just fine, and avoid the tourist and luxury parts. The trendiest places in Brooklyn are total fucking shit. Just live a few block away and you're fine. Its NYC, so just bike or walk to work/store. Take the subway as well. Don't drive a fucking car its utterly useless in that city.
