One of my coworkers said she's never run into any issues with a guy on a job, that if you show you can do the work, no one gives you crap...but women, especially HR women, are the fucking worst.

Apparently, they make their lives living hell in part because HR makes less than actual line staff who took STEM degrees at places like MIT and Purdue, know their shit, and happen to be female. According to HR, this is "unfair", so they're always doing shit like transferring them from projects, refusing to order new hardware or software, fucking with their security clearances, and moving them around like Milton in Office Space.

i saw this post in passing and started reading some of the other replies.

i work in chicago at a large company. same shit is going on at our place.

i went to a state school, been programming since HS, wanted to be one of those people in suits working in a skyscraper. i'm female, but never felt it made a difference one way or the other through school or getting a job. i felt like i had no less opportunity than anyone else, and that people really focused on what i could do.

at least until the HR freaks took over. anyhow, other than getting chewed out by one of them for holding the door for a delivery guy (what the fuck?), i didn't pay much attention until last year.

we worked on a bank project in tampa last summer. i would get like 4 hours sleep every night because we had a tight deadline. really got close to people on my team, something hard for me to do. first and only time i have really felt part of a team.

project finished and i came back up north. new project was slow moving and full of politics and heavy HR involvement. i hate meetings, just let me code. about a month in, one of my old team stopped by with his little girl. i was so happy, i gave him a quick hug before saying goodbye.

about an hour later, i get called into HR. someone (they never said who) reported that my old teammate had sexually assaulted me in the office.

i'm kind of weird and i am not liked at all by these people so i was really careful. i figured it had to be the hug, and i made it clear that i was the hugger not the huggee. we went round and round on this shit for three solid days. ended up with both of us getting written up for professional misconduct by the gender police.

never felt so horrible about anything before. if anyone was wrong (and i don't think so) it was me. anyhow i got fired right before christmas. HR told me in my exit interview my behavior was "problematic".
