ITT we judge each other based on our major/minors. Actual adult fags can pretend their too school for cool.
Probs an faget
Looking to score it big in the dying oil market or just a happy accident? I strongly considered geology until I realized how much I enjoy maths in my free time. Part of me wishes I had pursued, another part is happy I dodged a bullet.
Double Major (The "double" means I'm good at sex): Pure Mathematics
And I'm australian so it looks like your shitty uni is the only one not trying to diversify its students' education
So edgy I lost I forgot how to deal with yuropoors.
They are awesome... mostly because of Jack White, though. He's a musical genius.
I only posted that picture because 1) They were pretty good. and 2) I've done some work with the producer who produced "Get Behind Me Satan", probably their best album.
Double Major Economics and Electrical Engineering
Minor Maths and Informatics
At least that's how I would translate it to shit-tier USA
Major: Environmental Science
Minors: Chemistry and History
Major: Environmental Science
Minor: Environmental Toxicology
Major: Environmental Science
Minor: Food Science
i'll save everyone the trouble of reading this thread
"only engineering, match, sciences are worth studying"
"lol women's studies u r poor"
literally every post in this dumb thread, every single time
Funny to see that. Math seems to be one of the biggest majors at my little school. Most of them are pleb focused in math ed, but still math majors none the less. I am probably just more inclined to interact with math peoples instead of everyone else though which skews my perspective.
It is not that uncommon. Really depends on the work you do and what courses ypu take outside of the department. I worked on lipid isolation of a specific fish and needed the food science for addition expertise in the area.
As an European we don't have this funky major-minor system, but I did do 80 ECTS classes of informatics and physics (computer science + some electronics stuff) and 40 ECTS of mathematics and statistics, so I guess my major was computer science and my minor was mathematics.
Anywho, I also have a master's degree in computer science and now I'm currently doing my PhD.
So rate / hate I guess...
>inb4 get a job
I worked full-time as a software developer while doing my masters and for half a year after my master's. I have some part-time experience as software dev as well.
Majors: Education and English
Minors: Science and Maths
Plan is to teach some sweet STEM, then when I have some money, take some time off and grab my masters in either Linguistics or Child Psychology
My dad finished his PhD in Pharmacology/Toxicology back in '99 at 44. He makes a lot of money. Don't see the problem with people going back to school, as long as they have a focused intent/purpose.
First 4 links on google. Welcome to Australia
50k right now, gotta get specialized experience before I can start applying to the 80k-90k jobs. I would start at that if I would work in the private sector. But I like government benefits right now.
Fair enough. My dad is against most of acadamia as a PhD because of that trap a lot of schools have been pushing people into recently.
He's not really into the breaking bad side of chemistry unfortunately. His company is subcontracted by large pharmaceutical companies, like pfizer, to fine tune drugs have the desired half life in the body.
>helps insane super computers recover
Major : aerospace engineering + marine engineering
Minor: ??????? If I fail I'll kill myself
Why the fuck would anyone pay you $90k to be bilingual in the second most common language in America? There are literally millions of Mexicans here that would do that for minimum wage.
>implying I haven't already been institutionalized
I wanted to be a pilot but they wouldn't let me and that is understandable, so if I couldn't fly the damn thing I might as well work on it
Minor: Either math or physics
I go to school who majors in Accounting and Music. He acts like a major fedora beta bitch who wants to act like he knows more than anyone but ends up marginally above average on every test. Hopefully you're not like this guy.
well fuck that guy.
I honestly just love music in any form, I want to work in a studio or open a studio to record people. There's too much talent that goes unseen because of the mainstream music media. Also music is great therapy.
It was something I was interested when I was younger but I only freelance in my free time, but when I do get work sometimes it's for the government or just some builders and real estate agents
Well, that was a pretty good response. Hopefully that things go as planned. Actually enjoying what you're learning about makes for a completely different classroom experience.
Im enjoying it so far, most of the production stuff is second nature because I've been in the field actually playing the music. The Business part sucks because I actually have to focus on the how rather then the why
For me that's not the case. I always feel like in the business world it's more of a "do these things this way because we say so" instead of a "this is why things work this way" approach. Maybe I prefer more of a foundation than what my school provides, but I generally dislike how business classes are taught. Accounting classes seem to be the exception and marketing classes exacerbate the problem to the nth degree.
I've been thinking about grad school for maths. The only thing that really stops me is being unsure if I'll enjoy going that deep into maths and being demoralized every step of the way for those little moments of enlightenment.
Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Computer Science and Information Systems
Translation: I'm a lazy fuck that only wants to take CS and IS classes. I don't give a fuck about math and BS liberal farts classes.
Marine Science w/ concentration Oceanography
Undergrad Major 2:
Minors 1 & 2
Mathematics & Chemistry
Interstitial water chemistry in estuarine environments.
Major: Social Psychology
Minor: Marketing (I had to pick something)
Masters (number 1)
Major: Clinical Psychology with a PTSD specialization
Masters (number 2)
Major: MBA with a Health Management specialization
Next up: Doctoral in counseling
Currently working as a therapist while completing MBA
Current student debt: 0.0 (thank you all for picking up the tab for a veteran)
I love you guys
I actually thought about a double major in economics and electrical engineering, but my professor said it would be pointless, and i should only minor in economics if im interested and then go into financial engineering. thoughts?
I'm passionate about food and biology.
Was a chef downtown in a local city for a while, caught up in drugs and alcohol. Now I work for a phase 1 pharmaceutical research company and hate it.
criticisms include "relying too much on award factors"
how about we start ranking universities based on actual modernised merit? rather than circlejerking over the past? most of our students are fucking dumb as fuck and it's embarassing
you look at some of the students from other countries, such as france, the uk, switzerland etc and the caliber is uncomparable
as a nation, we suck at producing educated citizens
Was strongly considering chem but goddamn do I hate doing chemistry. I don't even like doing basic stoichiometry, too much like math. So I went with molec bio instead and now I do math for genetics instead. They fucking fooled me.
The fuck is modernized merit. These universities are ranked so highly BECAUSE they produce successful and intelligent graduates. The fuck are you on about, what is wrong with the list. I sense salty euros.
I believe you may have antisocial tendencies...you are attempting to steal from me by getting my bank account number
I'll need you to take a battery of tests for 1800 USD...then another 240 for me to take a look, do a write up, and have a session where I tell you that you are a fuck up
>the fuck is modernized merit
nigga you fucking dumb? it's called basing academic ranking on how well these universities do in the modern climate
sure we produce a small proportion of fine graduates, but have you even gone to one of our unis? the conversation you hear over campus and the sheer lack of common sense hurts me
No, you fucking euro, I just don't feel that changing the rules because I only have two ranked schools is a valid move. You talk about conversation, but what about actual fucking progress? Our STEM graduates are top-tier and can easily get a job anywhere in the world. Not to mention the massive flood of foreigners trying to get IN to our schools because they are also top-tier.
Yes, our lower-level school system is fucking worthless. Yes, a majority of our citizens can't figure out their right shoe from their left. But our top-level colleges are a different story.
