Big difference between jail and prison. Been too both. The location really matters. Jail has a lot of people getting moved around and nothing to lose so lots of fights and threats, all sex is consensual, and all "down low brothers" or "undercover brothers"..I was in a dorm with 99 other inmates, at least 70 to 80 at all times were black and all were having some sort of sex with each other..prison is pretty laid back, lots of card games and partying and reading..people just trying to do there time and get out..hustling cigs and drugs for.food just to kill time. If you're in for a short stint (2 years or less) it's pretty much like going to summer camp. You hang out with your bros all day, work out, eat shitty food, do drugs and yes, fuck like animals. There isn't a lot if rape but it's not unheard of, typically a consensual relationship gone bad. Everyone knows to stay the fuck away from the guys with HIV & herpes so STDs aren't a big deal.

My ex girlfriend was in prison once, but she kept writing, because I was the only one who did not give a damn about what she did ( stealing a car for gambling money).

She told me she got harrased by other inmates. The visitor room in the woman prison is just a bunch of tables, where inmates and visitors culd walk freely(after a cop searched pockets and stuff), it was open, everyone could sit anywhere. Even there she got harrased, by a look. and a silent "ssst" (with the finger and the knive to the troath gesture) . that moment I walked to the bully. and grabbed her hair, could smash her face 4 times to the table with her hair before the officers got me.

Never seen that much blood and crying people and even a few laughing inmates , my ex girlfriend gave me a smile when the prison guards escorted me out, in her latest letter she told me nobody even dared to look at her wrongly and made a lot of friends.

I got 120 hours of comunity service and 1 week in prison for beating up the fat bitch who harrassed my ex-girlfriend.

Yeah, the penalties are a joke here.

COUNTY JAIL, OK : 8 Months for Obstruction of an Officer, (Farce charge. I had an attitude with an Officer who was yelling at me, this was the charge. I was being prosecuted for one year in prison. I accepted 8 months.)

I was 18 at the time, just finished Highschool and was working. I had a bad relationship, (I never hit her.) broke it off with the girl, and the girl began dating a LEO. I was fucked.

My eight months was an absolute fucking nightmare. We had two meals a day if we were lucky. It was mostly Dinner only, or just a lunch for the day.
During the eight months, I saw the outside only once. We were typically on 24 hour lockdown.
Cell was very small, about the size of a closet. 20 - 30 people to a very small cell. We literally slept ontop of another.
Staff, and other infectors were abundant. TB was a very common one. Typically wake up to find 3 - 10 people dead every other week.
Contacting the Jailers was a major no-no. If you did so, "bothering them", you spent the next week to a month, or even the rest of your sentence in isolation. We've had people starve to death because other inmates would steal food.
It depends on the Jail. Some are good, some are bad. The Jail I was in was accused several times of human-rights violations, but they never went any where. The Jail was since knocked down after a fire. I still get randomly nervous at times, scared shitless when speaking to an Officer, eat like no tomorrow, etc.

There is an internet computer in a comunity room, but only for reading headlines news, 90% of content is blocked. You can use it to write letters to lawyers, or home .

There is a store, where you can buy soap, magazines, newspapers, cigarettes, carbonated drinks. and chewinggum. You can order other stuff once a week( crisps, dried sausage or other snacks). it is bought by an officer, so you really need to keep him a friend (if you knwo what I mean)
Everyone can rent a tv for his room. headphones are obligatory. nobody wants to hear noise from someone else.

The unwritten 'keep silent hour' rule after dinner is for spotting the guards, so we know where they are and can do things not ment for daylight (smugglers hour).

Every prisoner has his own cell, but is not allowed to keep all his property in his 'bedroom' there are lockers outside. cells need to be clean and tidy 24/7 like in the army. But that ios not really a punishment.

last year, they closed a prison, because there is a lack of prisoners. There are 8500 long term proisoners today ( 5 years or longer ) We have two guards for every prisoner. in total most working parttime.
