The new/specialty pieces are a good thing. They give people more building possibilities. It's not like you're forced to use them anyway. I think most of them are pretty cool and don't introduce anything too radical. Besides, 90s Lego had so many specialty pieces. Introducing pieces like this isn't new. And with the Transformers toys, I remember you had to pretty much have a damn engineering degree to switch them from bot to vehicle, etc.
